Bloom Forming Species of Phytoplankton in Two Coastal Waters in the Southeast Coast of India

The results of an investigation carried out during June 2005 to May 2007 on bloom-forming phytoplankton species composition and abundance in the Parangipettai and Coleroon coastal waters （Southeast coast of India） are reported. Air and surface water temperatures （℃） varied from 25.1 to 30.1 and 24.5 to 28.5, respectively, in the former waters and from 25.5 to 31.2 and 25.0 to 29.3 in the latter waters. The respective salinities varied from 6.0 to 28.5 and 5.0 to 33.1 and the respective pH ranged between 7.0 and 8.3 and 7.2 and 8.3. Correspondingly, the dissolved oxygen content varied from 3.1 to 7.5 and 3.1 to 7.9 mgL1 while the light extinction coefficient （LEC） values ranged between 3.1 and 10.1 and 1.8 and 11.0. The content ranges of inorganic nutrients, i.e., nitrate, nitrite, phosphate and silicate （μmolL^-1）, in the Parangipettai and Coleroon coastal waters were： 6.5- 27.0; 1.0- 8.9; 0.1-3.0 and 15.0 -140 and 10.1-23.4; 1.2-8.9; 0.2-3.1 and 55-125 respectively. The chlorophyll α contents in both waters ranged from 2.0-7.5 μgL^-1. Presently, 124 phytoplankton species representing different classes were recorded in the Coleroon coast, viz, Bacillariophyceae （77）; Dinophyceae （19）; Cyanophyceae （15）; Chlorophyceae （10） and Chrysophyceae （3）, whereas 117 phytoplankton species were recorded in the Parangipettai coast, viz, Bacillariophyceae （66）; Dinophyceae （22）; Cyanophyceae （19）; Chlorophyceae （7） and Chrysophyceae （3）. The phytoplankton cell abundance in the Parangipettai and Coleroon coastal waters varied from 290 to 111662 and 140 to 132 757 cells L^-1, respectively, with peak diversity （3.38 and 3.52 bits indl.） recorded in summer. The maximum abundance occurred in summer coinciding with the stable hydrographical conditions. The seasonal distribution and abundance of phytoplankton are discussed in relation to hydrographical parameters. Totally 31 and 24 species of phytoplankton were found to be bloom-forming in the Parangipettai and Coleroon coastal waters,

Due to the emerging technology era, today a number of firms share their service/product descriptions. Such a group of information in the textual form has some structured information, which is beneath the unstructured text. A new attainment which facilitates the form of a structured metadata by recognizing documents which are likely to have some type and this information is then used for both segregation and search process. The idea of this advent describes some attributes of a text that will match with the query object which acts as identifier both for segregation as well as for storage and retrieval. An adaptive technique is proposed to deal with relevant attributes to annotate a document by satisfying the users querying needs. The solution for annotation-attribute suggestion problem is not based on the probabilistic model or prediction but it is based on the basic keywords that a user can use to query a database to retrieve a document. Experiment results show that Querying value and Content Value approach is much useful in predicting a tag for a document and thus prediction is also based on Querying value and Content value which greatly improves the utility of shared data which is a drawback in the existing system. This approach is different, as we consider only the basic keywords to be matched with the content of a document. When compared with other approaches in the existing system, Clarity is a primary goal as we expect that the annotator may improve the annotations on process. The discovered tags assist on quest of retrieval as an alternative to bookmarking.

The objective of this research is to study the dry sliding wear behaviour of metal surfaces and influences of their surface hardness. The improved hardness of the TiN deposited surface was about 1763 Hv. The worn surface Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) morphology exhibits the surface damage due to varying wear test parameters. The Electron Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) reveals that the material transfer between the counter parts and the wear mechanism has been involved. The minimum specific wear rate of TiN surface was 0.0018 mg/Nm and 0.0026 mg/Nm against Ti6Al4V alloy and TaN respectively.

Season modulates endocrinological profiles and sex behavioural characteristics in indigenous male goats under tropical humid island ecosystem

Objective:To measure the seasonal effect on endocrinological profiles and sex behavioural profiles during rainy and dry summer seasons in male Andaman local goat in Andaman and Nicobar Islands,***:Ten adult male Andaman local goats were selected from the goat breeding farm,ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute,Port Blair,Andaman and Nicobar Islands,*** profiles such as follicle stimulating hormone(FSH),luteinizing hormone(LH),testosterone,thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH),triiodothyronine(T3),thyroxine(T4),cortisol and prolactin were analysed with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay *** behavioural profiles such as libido score,mating ability score and sex behavioural score were measured during rainy and dry summer seasons in male Andaman local ***:Endocrinological profiles as well as sex behavioural profiles differed significantly between rainy season and dry summer season(P<0.05).The levels of FSH,LH,testosterone,TSH,T3,and T4 were significantly higher in rainy season than in dry summer season whereas cortisol and prolactin were significantly higher in dry summer season than in rainy season(P<0.05).The ratio of T3:T4 was significantly higher in rainy season than in dry summer ***,libido score,mating ability score and sex behavioural score were significantly higher in rainy season than in dry summer season(P<0.05).Conclusions:Rainy season has significantly higher beneficial effects than summer season on reproduction and artificial breeding programmes in semi-intensive management of goat under the tropical humid island ecosystem in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Wet granulation is a potential method to develop artificial *** this paper,the granulation of recycled alkali-activated slag powders with different particle size(d_(50) ranging between 12.9-127.7μm)distributions were investigated in order to find how these affect on the engineering properties of the artificial *** furnace slag was added as co-binder in 10-30 wt.%during the granulation process and to enhance the properties,especially mechanical *** results show that the particle size of the raw material significantly affects the engineering properties of the produced aggregates,such as the crushing force(19-131.8 N),bulk density,water absorption,porosity and microstructure of the *** results show that granulation is a promising method to recycle alkali-activated materials as lightweight aggregates to replace natural aggregates.

Objective:To investigate the antibacterial activity of six seaweeds against twelve human bacterial pathogens using seven different ***:Antibacterial activity was evaluated using the disc diffusion technique on Mueller Hinton *** dilution assays are standard method used to compare the inhibition efficiency of the antimicrobial ***:Among the six seaweeds tested,the antibacterial activity was higher in the brown seaweeds when compared to red and green *** gymnospora was found exerting a strong antibacterial activity with a high range inhibition[(6.00±0.82)to(22.67±1.25)mm].Broth dilution assay was conducted against Salmonella *** the chloroform extract of Padina gymnospora and the growth inhibition was found in the range of 74.26%to 82.56%.Conclusions:Further research studies are being carried out on other species of seaweeds of different habitats in order to provide complete data of the antimicrobial potential of these *** is also essential to study the principle compound present in the seaweeds which is responsible for antimicrobial *** can be achieved by using advanced separation techniques.

【背景】海洋沉积物中蕴含着丰富的微生物资源,估算约2.9×1029个细胞,与海水中的微生物总量相当。但是由于缺少可培养物,大部分的微生物缺乏生理特征、代谢方式以及生态功能的相关研究。深古菌(Bathyarchaeota)是一类典型的未培养微生物,在全球海洋沉积物中普遍存在,并且具有很高的丰度。【目的】对深古菌代谢潜能及其在海洋沉积物中发挥的生态功能进行更加深入的研究。【方法】应用宏基因组学的技术手段,对采集自瓜伊马斯盆地的深海热液沉积物样本进行了分析,获得了一个接近完整的深古菌基因组Bathyarchaeota B242。【结果】对Bathyarchaeota B242基因组的分析发现,其具有以降解蛋白质和多种碳水化合物为主的异养代谢途径,同时还具有通过还原型乙酰辅酶A途径实现的自养途径。【结论】同时具有自养和异养代谢途径对Bathyarchaeota B242适应低物质能量供给环境下的生存起到重要作用。

Reliable Method for Steady-State Concentrations and Current over the Diagnostic Biosensor Transducers

A mathematical modelling of diagnostic biosensors system at three basic types of enzyme kinetics is discussed in the presence of diffusion. Enzyme kinetics is adopted to be first order, Michaelis-Menten and ping-pong mechanism. In this paper, approximate analytical solutions are obtained for the non-linear equations under steady-state conditions by using the new Homotopy perturbation method. Simple and closed forms of analytical expressions for concentrations of substrate, product and co-substrate and corresponding current response have been derived for all possible values of parameters. Furthermore, the numerical simulation of the problem is also reported here by using Matlab program. Good agreement between analytical and numerical results is noted.
