Brain aging is typically associated with a significant decline in cognitive *** risk factors(VRF)and subsequent atherosclerosis(As)play a major role in this *** resilience reflects the brain’s ability to withstand external perturbations,but the relationship of brain resilience with cognition during the aging process remains ***,we investigated how brain topological resilience(BTR)is associated with cognitive performance in the face of aging and vascular risk *** used data from two cross-ethnicity community cohorts,PolyvasculaR Evaluation for Cognitive Impairment and Vascular Events(PRECIsE,n=2220)and sydney Memory and Ageing study(MAs,n=246).We conducted an attack simulation on brain structural networks based on k-shell decomposition and node degree *** was defined based on changes in the size of the largest subgroup of the network during the simulation ***,we explored the negative correlations of BTR with age,VRF,and As,and its positive correlation with cognitive ***,using structural equation modeling(sEM),we constructed path models to analyze the directional dependencies among these variables,demonstrating that aging,As,and VRF affect cognition by disrupting *** results also indicated the specificity of this metric,independent of brain ***,these findings underscore the supportive role of BTR on cognition during aging and highlight its potential application as an imaging marker for objective assessment of brain cognitive performance.

The soft X-ray Imager(sXI)is part of the scientific payload of the solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer(sMILE)*** is a joint science mission between the European space Agency(EsA)and the Chinese Academy of sciences(CAs)and is due for launch in *** is a compact X-ray telescope with a wide field-of-view(FOV)capable of encompassing large portions of Earth’s magnetosphere from the vantage point of the sMILE *** is sensitive to the soft X-rays produced by the solar Wind Charge eXchange(sWCX)process produced when heavy ions of solar wind origin interact with neutral particles in Earth’s *** provides a mechanism for boundary detection within the magnetosphere,such as the position of Earth’s magnetopause,because the solar wind heavy ions have a very low density in regions of closed magnetic field *** sensitivity of the sXI is such that it can potentially track movements of the magnetopause on timescales of a few minutes and the orbit of sMILE will enable such movements to be tracked for segments lasting many *** is led by the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom(UK)with collaborating organisations on hardware,software and science support within the UK,Europe,China and the United states.

Gender Differences in Frontal Activation While Perceiving Pathologically Thin Female Body Forms

Brain mechanisms underlying body image disturbances are a focus of research in the realm of eating disorders, and functional imaging studies have revealed gender differences in the processing of body shape. In this study, using 16-channel near infrared spectroscopy, we investigated frontal lobe activation in 46 healthy university students during viewing of photographs of pathologically thin female forms, and compared gender differences in activation, and examined the correlations between the relative changes in cerebral blood volume, eating attitudes, and perceived feelings. Participants completed the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT26) and rated a visual analogue scale for anxiety/disgust. significant gender differences in the pattern of activation were noted in the prefrontal region (predominantly right side, dorsolateral to ventral), with male participants showing greater and more widespread frontal activation. The total and subscale scores on EAT26 were significantly correlated with the frontal activation, and perceived feelings were significantly associated with increased prefrontal activation on the left side. Gender differences in frontal activation suggest differential expectations between men and women of pathologically thin female body forms. The study results suggest that anorexic psychopathology may be associated with abnormal right frontal activation while viewing thin bodies of others.

An adaptive meshing technique and solution method is proposed in which a two-dimensional body-fitted multi-block mesh is locally adjusted to arbitrarily embedded boundaries that are not necessarily aligned with the *** only does this scheme allow for rapid and robust mesh generation involving complex embedded boundaries,it also enables the solution of unsteady flow problems involving bodies and interfaces moving relative to the flow *** scheme has been implemented within a block-based adaptive mesh refinement(AMR)numerical framework which can ease computational expense while maintaining a detailed representation of the embedded boundary and providing an accurate resolution of the spatial characteristics of the fluid *** body motion and evolving motion due to physical processes are considered.A block-based AMR level set method is used to deal with evolving embedded *** results for various test problems are presented to verify the validity of the scheme as well as demonstrate the capabilities of the approach for predicting complex two-dimensional inviscid and laminar fluid flows.

The accumulation and aggregation of alpha-synuclein(α-syn)in several tissue including the brain is a major pathological hallmark in Parkinson’s disease(PD).In this study,we show that α-syn can be taken up by primary human cortical neurons,astrocytes and skin-derived fibroblasts in *** findings that brain and peripheral cells exposed to α-syn can lead to impaired mitochondrial function,leading to cellular degeneration and cell death,provides additional evidence for the involvement of mitochondrial dysfunction as a mechanism of toxicity of α-syn in human cells.

BACKGROUND Roux-en-Y gastric bypass(RYGB) is the most commonly performed surgical procedure used to treat obesity worldwide. Despite satisfactory results in terms of weight loss, over time many patients experience weight regain. There are many factors that contribute to weight regain after RYGB, including the diameter of the gastric-jejunal anastomosis(GJA). One of the most commonly performed endoscopic procedures for weight regain after RYGB is argon plasma coagulation(APC). We report a case of hematemesis after outlet revision with APC. We highlight several treatment modalities that can be used to treat this *** sUMMARY A 45-year-old female with a history of weight regain after RYGB was referred for possible endoscopic treatment for weight regain. On endoscopic evaluation, the diameter of the GJA was 22 mm. Due to the dilated GJA, treatment with APC was performed. several months later she reported a return of poor satiety and an increased appetite. A repeat endoscopy was then performed. The GJA was approximately 15 mm and was incompetent. APC was performed. One day post procedure she had four episodes of hematemesis. An endoscopy was performed and a large ulcer with a visible arterial vessel was visualized at the *** was attempted using a Coagrasper and after initial contact with the vessel, the vessel started oozing. Due to fibrosis and the depth of ulceration in the area, clips and repeat APC could not be used. Therefore, an attempt to inject epinephrine injection was made. However, persistent oozing was noted. As a result, hemostatic powder was applied to the region of the bleeding ***, no more bleeding was observed. On follow-up, the patient remained hemodynamically stable and a second look endoscopy was not performed.
