Forest productivity is closely linked to seasonal variations and vertical differentiation in leaf ***,leaf structural and chemical traits variation among co-existing species,and plant functional types within the canopy are poorly *** this study,the seasonality of leaf chlorophyll,nitrogen(N),and phosphorus(P)were quantified vertically along the canopy of four major tree species and two types of herbs in a temperate deciduous *** role of shade tolerance in shaping the seasonal variation and vertical differentiation was *** the entire season,chlorophyll content showed a distinct asymmetric unimodal pattern for all species,with greater chlorophyll levels in autumn than in spring,and the timing of peak chlorophyll per leaf area gradually decreased as shade tolerance *** a:b ratios gradually decreased with increasing shade *** N and P contents sharply declined during leaf expansion,remained steady in the mature stage and decreased again during leaf *** the seasons,the lower canopy layer had significantly higher chlorophyll per leaf mass but not chlorophyll per leaf area than the upper canopy layer regardless of degree of shade ***,N and P per leaf area of intermediate shade-tolerant and fully shade-tolerant tree species were significantly higher in the upper canopy than in the *** variations in N:P ratios suggest changes in N or P *** findings indicate that shade tolerance is a key feature shaping inter-specific differences in leaf chlorophyll,N,and P contents as well as their seasonality in temperate deciduous forests,which have significant implications for modeling leaf photosynthesis and ecosystem production.

Electrocatalytic reduction of CO_(2) converts intermittent renewable electricity into value-added liquid products with an enticing prospect,but its practical application is hampered due to the lack of high-performance ***,we elaborately design and develop strongly coupled nanosheets composed of Ag nanoparticles and sn-snO_(2) grains,designated as Ag/sn-snO_(2) nanosheets(Nss),which possess optimized electronic structure,high electrical conductivity,and more accessible *** a result,such a catalyst exhibits unprecedented catalytic performance toward CO_(2)-to-formate conversion with near-unity faradaic efficiency(≥90%),ultrahigh partial current density(2,000 mA cm^(−2)),and superior long-term stability(200 mA cm^(−2),200 h),surpassing the reported catalysts of CO_(2) electroreduction to ***,in situ attenuated total reflection-infrared spectra combined with theoretical calculations revealed that electron-enriched sn sites on Ag/sn-snO_(2)Nss not only promote the formation of*OCHO and alleviate the energy barriers of*OCHO to*HCOOH,but also impede the desorption of H*.Notably,the Ag/sn-snO_(2)Nss as the cathode in a membrane electrode assembly with porous solid electrolyte layer reactor can continuously produce~0.12 M pure HCOOH solution at 100 mA cm^(−2)over 200 *** work may inspire further development of advanced electrocatalysts and innovative device systems for promoting practical application of producing liquid fuels from CO_(2).

Environmental tracers CFCs,O,H and tritium were used to determine the natural groundwater recharge and the impact of irrigation activity on the groundwater system in the semi-arid Zhangye Basin of *** in the irrigated areas have been identified as mixtures containing fractions recharged in different periods of *** CFC and 3H data show that the oldest fraction in the ground-water was recharged before 1950,whereas the younger fractions were recharged in different periods of time since *** isotope(0,H),CFC and electrical conductivity data show that most of the samples can be regarded as binary mixtures with the river/irrigation water presents the younger fraction and the regional groundwater presents the older *** mixing model is used to estimate the age and fraction of the younger *** of the younger fraction was recharged after 1980s,in response to the increasing irrigation *** to local precipitation surface water plays a major role in recharging the aquifer in the irrigated *** irrigation activity had more impact on the aquifer under thin unsaturated zone(short travel times and high amounts of recharge, whereas it had less impact on the aquifer under thick unsaturated zone(tens of meters).CFCs are useful in identifying regions of different impact of irrigation return *** positive correlation between nitrate and CFC data show that contaminants are transported to the saturated zone by irrigation water. This study shows that in this semi-arid basin due to strong evaporation of infiltrating surface water and regional groundwater,5180 and EC values,in contrast to CFCs,do not show simple relationship with NO concentration in *** with a proper mixing model,however,they can provide evidences that the CFCs found in groundwater were introduced by infiltrating irrigation return flow and, therefore,reveal that human activities can produce a much localized water circulation

Popular fermented golden pomfret(Trachinotus ovatus)is prepared via spontaneous fermentation;however,the mechanisms underlying the regulation of its flavor development remain *** study shows the roles of the complex microbiota and the dynamic changes in microbial community and flavor compounds during fish ***-molecule real-time sequencing and molecular networking analysis revealed the correlations among different microbial genera and the relationships between microbial taxa and volatile *** underlying flavor development were also elucidated via KEGG based functional ***,shewanella,and staphylococcus were the dominant microbial ***-nine volatile compounds were detected in the fermented fish samples,with thirteen identified as characteristic volatile compounds(ROAV>1).Volatile profiles resulted from the interactions among the microorganisms and derived enzymes,with the main metabolic pathways being amino acid biosynthesis/metabolism,carbon metabolism,and glycolysis/*** study demonstrated the approaches for distinguishing key microbiota associated with volatile compounds and monitoring the industrial production of high-quality fermented fish products.

This study examines the effectiveness of adaptive observation experiments using the ensemble transformation sensitivity(ETs) method to improve precipitation forecasts during heavy rainfall events in south china and the sichuan Basin. High-resolution numerical models are employed to simulate adaptive observations. By identifying the sensitive areas of key weather system positions 42 hours before heavy rainfall events, the adaptive observations improve the prediction of jet streams, strong winds, and shear lines, which are essential for accurate heavy rainfall forecasting. This improvement is reflected in both the precipitation structure and location accuracy within the verification region. In south china, targeted observations enhance rainfall predictions by improving water vapor transport. In the sichuan Basin, adaptive observations refine water vapor transport and adjust vortex dynamics. This research highlights the importance of accurately predicting shear lines and jet streams for forecasting heavy rainfall in these areas. Overall, this study found that adaptive observation enhances the precipitation forecast skills of the structure and location for heavy rainfall in south china and the sichuan Basin, emphasizing their potential utility in operational numerical weather prediction.

Interest in the dynamics of soil respiration(R_(s))in subalpine forest ecosystems is increasing due to their high soil carbon density and potential sensitivity to environmental ***,as a principal silvicultural practice,the long-term impacts of thinning on R_(s) and its heterotrophic and autotrophic respiration components(R_(h) and Ra,respectively)in subalpine plantations are poorly understood,espe-cially in winter.A 3-year field observation was carried out with consideration of winter CO_(2) efflux in middle-aged sub-alpine spruce plantations in northwestern china.A trench-ing method was used to explore the long-term impacts of thinning on Rs,Rn and R_(a).seventeen years after thinning,mean annual Rs,Rn and R_(a) increased,while the contribu-tion of R_(h) to R_(s) decreased with thinning *** significantly decreased winter R,because of the reduction in R_(n) but had no significant effect on *** temperature sensitivity(Q_(10))of R_(h) and R_(a) also increased with thinning intensity,with lower Q_(10) values for R_(h)(2.1-2.6)than for Ra(2.4-2.8).The results revealed the explanatory variables and pathways related to R_(n) and R_(a) *** increased soil moisture and nitrate nitrogen(NO_(3)^(-)-N),and the enhanced nitrogen and water availability promoted R_(h) and R_(a) by improving fine root biomass and microbial *** results highlight the positive roles of NO_(3)^(-)-N in stimulating R_(s) components following long-term ***,applications of nitrogen fertilizer are not recommended while thinning subalpine spruce plantations from the perspective of reducing soil CO_(2) *** increased Q_(10) values of R_(s) components indicate that a large increase in soil CO_(2) emissions would be expected following thinning because of more pronounced climate warming in alpineregions.

Inflammation is closely related to stroke prognosis, and high inflammation status leads to poor functional outcome in stroke. DNA methylation is involved in the pathogenesis and prognosis of stroke. However, the effect of DNA methylation on stroke at high levels of inflammation is unclear. In this study, we constructed a hyperinflammatory cerebral ischemia mouse model and investigated the effect of hypomethylation and hypermethylation on the functional outcome. We constructed a mouse model of transient middle cerebral artery occlusion and treated the mice with lipopolysaccharide to induce a hyperinflammatory state. To investigate the effect of DNA methylation on stroke, we used small molecule inhibitors to restrain the function of key DNA methylation and demethylation enzymes. 2,3,5-Triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining, neurological function scores, neurobehavioral tests, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, quantitative reverse transcription PCR and western blot assay were used to evaluate the effects after stroke in mice. We assessed changes in the global methylation status by measuring DNA 5-mc and DNA 5-hmc levels in peripheral blood after the use of the inhibitor. In the group treated with the DNA methylation inhibitor, brain tissue 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining showed an increase in infarct volume, which was accompanied by a decrease in neurological scores and worsening of neurobehavioral performance. The levels of inflammatory factors interleukin 6 and interleukin-1 beta in ischemic brain tissue and plasma were elevated, indicating increased inflammation. Related inflammatory pathway exploration showed significant overactivation of nuclear factor kappa B. These results suggested that inhibiting DNA methylation led to poor functional outcome in mice with high inflammation following stroke. Further, the effects were reversed by inhibition of DNA demethylation. Our findings suggest that DNA methylation regulates the inflammatory response in stroke

Reasonably constructing an atomic interface is pronouncedly essential for surface-related gas-sensing ***,we present an ingen-ious feedback-regulation system by changing the interactional mode between single Pt atoms and adjacent s species for high-efficiency sO_(2)*** found that the single Pt sites on the Mos_(2)surface can induce easier volatiliza-tion of adjacent s species to activate the whole inert s ***,the activated s species can provide a feedback role in tailoring the antibonding-orbital electronic occupancy state of Pt atoms,thus creating a combined system involving s vacancy-assisted single Pt sites(Pt-Vs)to synergistically improve the adsorption ability of sO_(2)gas ***-more,in situ Raman,ex situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy testing and density functional theory analysis demonstrate the intact feedback-regulation system can expand the electron transfer path from single Pt sites to whole Pt-Mos_(2)supports in sO_(2)gas *** with wireless-sensing modules,the final Pt1-Mos_(2)-def sensors array can further realize real-time monitoring of sO_(2)levels and cloud-data storage for plant *** a fundamental understanding of the intrinsic link between atomic interface and sensing mechanism is thus expected to broaden the rational design of highly effective gas sensors.
