Correlation between serum lipid profiles and cognitive impairment in old age:a cross-sectional study

Background The correlation between cognitive function and lipid profiles,including total cholesterol,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C)and triglycerides,is inconsistent.Aims This cross-sectional study investigated the association between serum lipid levels and the prevalence of cognitive impairment among community-dwelling older adults and explored this difference in association by gender and urban-rural residency.Methods Participants aged 65 and above in urban and rural areas were recruited between 2018 and 2020,selected from the Hubei Memory and Aging Cohort Study.Detailed neuropsychological evaluations,clinical examinations and laboratory tests were conducted in community health service centres.Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyse the correlation between serum lipid profiles and the prevalence of cognitive impairment.Results We identified 1336 cognitively impaired adults(≥65 years)-1066 with mild cognitive impairment and 270 with dementia-from 4746 participants.Triglycerides level was correlated with cognitive impairment in the total sample(χ2=6.420,p=0.011).In gender-stratified multivariate analysis,high triglycerides in males reduced the risk of cognitive impairment(OR:0.785,95%CI:0.623 to 0.989,p=0.040),and high LDL-C in females increased the risk of cognitive impairment(OR:1.282,95%CI:1.040 to 1.581,p=0.020).In both gender-stratified and urban-rural stratified multivariate analyses,high triglycerides reduced the risk of cognitive impairment in older urban men(OR:0.734,95%CI:0.551 to 0.977,p=0.034),and high LDL-C increased the risk of cognitive impairment in older rural women(OR:1.830,95%CI:1.119 to 2.991,p=0.016).Conclusions There are gender and urban-rural differences in the correlation of serum lipids with cognitive impairment.High triglycerides levels may be a protective factor for cognitive function in older urban men,while high LDL-C levels may be a risk factor for cognitive function in older rural women.

Geological hazard is an adverse geological condition that can cause loss of life and property.Accurate prediction and analysis of geological hazards is an important and challenging task.In the past decade,there has been a great expansion of geohazard detection data and advancement in data-driven simulation techniques.In particular,great efforts have been made in applying deep learning to predict geohazards.To understand the recent progress in this field,this paper provides an overview of the commonly used data sources and deep neural networks in the prediction of a variety of geological hazards.

针对微型节流制冷型红外焦平面探测器杜瓦冷指,选取TC4/Ni的钎焊形式,从钎焊方法和钎料类型的焊缝微观组织以及接头结构设计的可靠性等方面对TC4/Ni的钎焊工艺进行了研究。结果表明,结合应力、形变和降温时间仿真以及防锈蚀分析结果,研究TC4/Ni冷指端面结构钎焊工艺具有一定工程实用意义;并通过正交试验确定了高温真空钎焊+AgCu28钎料组合的较佳工艺方案,满足对控制元素偏析和减少焊接脆性相生成的目的;同时综合考虑钎透率、充耐压试验及剪切强度测试的结果,确定锥形焊缝为较佳焊接结构。

Lithiophilic Cu-Li_(2)O matrix on a Cu Collector to Stabilize Lithium Deposition for Lithium Metal Batteries

Lithium metal anode is the most ideal candidate for next-generation energy storage system.However,the uncontrolled dendrite growth,infinite volume expansion,and undesired side reactions lead to serious safety issues and hinder their potential application.Herein,a pre-lithiation strategy is proposed to construct a high-lithiophilic Cu-Li_(2)O matrix on commercial Cu foil.The in situ-generated Li_(2)O promises adequate nucleation sites and strengthens solid electrolyte interphase and lateral lithium deposition.Meanwhile,the existence of 3D matrix reduces the local current density.The synergy effect of Li_(2)O and Cu suppresses the growth of lithium dendrites.As a result,Cu-Li_(2)O matrix reveals an enhanced lithium plating/stripping behavior with Coulombic efficiency of 98.46%after 270 cycles.The symmetrical cell assembled by Li-plated electrodes displays a prolonged lifespan of 1400 h.The work demonstrates a scalable and effective approach for modified current collectors toward stable Li metal anode.

3D Numerical Simulation of Aerodynamic Characteristics of a Gas Filter

The filter paper and activated carbon which filled inside the gas filter have porous media characteristics. In order to study the flow field structure in the filter layer and the activated carbon layer, Computational Fluid Dynamics method is used to simulate the aerodynamic characteristics of a simplified gas filter. The inertial and viscosity parameters of porous media are solved by Forchheimer equation. The three-dimensional N-S equation and the modified low Reynolds number k-ε turbulence model are adopted to analyze the influence of the explosion-proof plate on the gas filter’s aerodynamic characteristics. The results showed that the air age in the upstream of the activated carbon plates was small, which easily caused the rapid penetration of the Poisonous gas. And in the downstream and around of the activated carbon plates, the air age is larger, formed dead zone, the utilization rate of activated carbon is lower. The explosion-proof plate increases the pressure drop of the gas filter, the air age distribution in the filter layer is more uniform and the utilization rate of filter paper is improved. However, the explosion-proof plate has little influence on the flow field structure of the activated carbon layer.

结直肠癌(CRC)是人类第三大高发恶性肿瘤,也是常见的癌症相关死亡原因之一,2020年全球CRC新发病例193.16万,死亡病例93.52万,分别位于所有恶性肿瘤的第3位和第2位。CRC的发病机制主要归因于维持上皮完整性稳态的相关信号转导通路失调。目前研究表明CRC组织中许多TRIMs家族蛋白的高表达与病人的低生存率密切相关,并认为参与了CRC的发病机制。大多数TRIMs家族成员可通过直接干扰细胞周期调控、细胞凋亡、上皮间质转化(EMT)以及炎症反应,进而影响CRC的发生和发展。值得注意的是,在特定的肿瘤类型和微环境下,部分TRIMs家族成员被发现具有转录因子活性和RNA稳定的复杂生物学活性。该文通过文献回顾,研究和总结TRIMs家族蛋白在CRC发生发展过程中通过信号转导通路的靶向调控。

To the editor:The impact of the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic in 2020 on mental health was substantialin Chinai2and various other countries.34 Beyond the direct consequences of COVID-19,the pandemic created an environment in which many determinants of mental health were affected.Issues associated with the pandemic,such as loss of livelihood,limited access to medical services,reduced social interactions,and economic downturn,could potentially have adverse effects on the population's mental well-being.5 In November 2021,the World Health Organization(WHO)designated the new variant of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),variant B.1.1.529,as a variant of concern and named it Omicron;its rapid mutation and spread raised a new global health concern.

Origin of the springtime South China Sea Warm Current in the southwestern Taiwan Strait: Evidence from seawater oxygen isotope

Oxygen isotope(δ^18O)of seawater is an excellent proxy for tracing the origins of water masses and their mixing processes.Combining with hydrographic observation,hybrid coordinate ocean model(HYCOM)analysis data,and seawater oxygen isotope,we investigated the source of the South China Sea Warm Current(SCSWC)in the southwestern Taiwan Strait and its underlying mechanism.Results show that the Kuroshio subsurface water(KSSW)can intrude the continental slope in the southwestern Taiwan Strait,and thereby climb up the continental slope coupled with upwelling.Theδ^18O-salinity relationship further indicates that in spring,the SCSWC in the southwestern Taiwan Strait originates from the upslope deflection of the slope current formed by the KSSW intrusion into the South China Sea,rather than from the west segment of the SCSWC formed to the east of Hainan Island.In addition,the southward flowing Zhe-Min Coastal Current(ZMCC)can reach as far as the Taiwan Bank(TB)and deflects offshore over the western TB at approximately 23.5°N,to some extent affecting the SCSWC.Moreover,this study reveals that seawaterδ^18O is exquisitely sensitive to the determination of the origin and transport of water masses as compared with traditional potential temperature-salinity plot(θ-S)and HYCOM analysis data.In addition,their coupling can more reliably interpret the mixing processes of shelf water masses.

Dear Editor,Hepatoid adenocarcinoma(HAC)is a rare pathological subtype of extrahepatic tumor,featured by hepatoid differentiation andα-fetoprotein(AFP)-production[1,2].Hepatoid adenocarcinoma of the stomach(HAS),accounting for 0.3%to 1.0%of all gastric cancers(GCs),has attracted increasing attention due to its high degree of malignancy[3].Compared with classic GC,HAS showed a higher rate of vascular invasion,lymph node metastasis,and liver metastasis,with only 9.0%survival rate at 5 years[4].Currently,there is no effective treatment for HAS,and little is known about its pathogenesis.Herein,we investigated the molecular features of HAS and identified potential therapeutic targets for HAS.

Effect of homogenization annealing on internal residual stress distribution and texture in ME21 magnesium alloy extruded plates

The distribution of residual stresses through thickness of 5 mm-thick ME21 magnesium alloy extruded plates was analyzed non-destructively using short-wavelength X-ray diffraction(SWXRD),and the effect of homogenization annealing before extrusion on the residual stress was discussed.The classic d 0 method with an annealed stress-free reference specimen was employed to determine the residual stress of the extruded plates.The residual stress results showed that the gradient of residual stress in the transverse direction was larger than that of the extrusion direction.The homogenization process prior to extrusion weaken the formed sample’s texture.The maximum residual stress of the as-extruded plate was reduced,and the residual stress distribution was homogenized.
