Safety,immunogenicity and protective effect of sequential vaccination with inactivated and recombinant protein COVID-19 vaccine in the elderly:a prospective longitudinal study

The safety and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines in the elderly,a high-risk group for severe COVID-19 infection,have not been fully *** clarify these issues,this prospective study followed up 157 elderly and 73 young participants for 16 months and compared the safety,immunogenicity,and efficacy of two doses of the inactivated vaccine BBIBP-CorV followed by a booster dose of the recombinant protein vaccine *** results showed that this vaccination protocol was safe and tolerable in the *** administering two doses of the BBIBP-CorV,the positivity rates and titers of neutralizing and anti-RBD antibodies in the elderly were significantly lower than those in the young *** the ZF2001 booster dose,the antibody-positive rates in the elderly were comparable to those in the young;however,the antibody titers remained ***,age,and underlying diseases were independently associated with vaccine immunogenicity in elderly *** pseudovirus neutralization assay showed that,compared with those after receiving two doses of BBIBP-CorV priming,some participants obtained immunological protection against BA.5 and BF.7 after receiving the ZF2001 *** infection symptoms last longer in the infected elderly and pre-infection antibody titers were negatively associated with the severity of post-infection *** antibody levels in the elderly increased significantly after breakthrough infection but were still lower than those in the *** data suggest that multiple booster vaccinations at short intervals to maintain high antibody levels may be an effective strategy for protecting the elderly against COVID-19.

Design and comparison of hybrid multi-bend achromat lattices for HALF storage ring

The Hefei Advanced Light Facility(HALF)proposed by the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory is a green-field vacuum ultraviolet and soft X-ray diffraction-limited storage ring light source with a beam energy of 2.2 GeV and emittance goal of less than 100 pm *** by the ESRF-EBS hybrid multi-bend achromat(HMBA),SLS-2,and Diamond-II lattices,we have proposed and designed a modified H6BA lattice as the baseline lattice of the HALF storage ring with 20 identical cells and a natural emittance of approximately 86 pm *** this paper,three other types of HMBA lattices including two H7BA lattices and a H6BA lattice are designed for HALF with the same number of *** main storage ring proper-ties of these four HMBA lattices are *** the intra-beam scattering(IBS)effect is significant in the HALF storage ring,we calculate and compare the equilibrium emittances of the four lattices with IBS *** comparisons show that the present modified H6BA lattice,which has a relatively low equilibrium emittance and more straight sections,is preferred for the HALF storage ring after a comprehensive consideration.

Chemoradiotherapy followed by surgery could improve the efficacy of treatments in patients with resectable esophageal carcinoma

Background The effectiveness of chemoradiotherapy followed by surgery （CRTS） in patients with resectable esophageal carcinoma remains *** performed a systematic review of the literature with *** Electronic databases were used to identify published studies between January 1992 and April *** relative risk （RR） with 95％ confidence interval （95％ CI） was utilized to estimate the strength of the association between CRTS and surgery alone （SA） survival of the resectable esophageal carcinoma *** and publication bias were also assessed in the present *** The final analysis of 2755 resectable esophageal carcinoma cases from 21 randomized controlled trials （RCTs） are *** to the SA group,the 1,3-and 5-year survival rates were significantly higher in the CRTS group （all P ＜0.05）; the 3-and 5-year survival rates for the Eastern patients,Western patients,patients undergoing concurrent chemoradiotherapy,patients with squamous cell carcinoma,patients undergoing High-dose radiotherapy （≥40 Gy）,and patients given either ＂cisplatin ＋ Fluorouracil＂ or ＂cisplatin ＋ paclitaxel＂ chemotherapy were significantly higher in the CRTS group （all P ＜0.05）.There were no statistical significances in the 3-and 5-year survival rates for patients undergoing sequential chemoradiotherapy or patients with adenocarcinoma between the two groups （all P ＞0.05）.Compared to the RCTS group,the surgery rate in the SA group was higher （P ＜0.05）,while the CRTS group had significantly higher radical resection rate,R0 resection rate and lower postoperative local recurrence rate （all P ＜0.05）.The differences in postoperative complication incidence,post-operative distant metastasis and postoperative mortality rate were not statistically significant between the two groups （all P ＞0.05）.Conclusion CRTS can significantly improve the survival and surgical conditions of patients with resectable esophageal carcinoma.

A Comparative Study of the Power-law Relationship between the Pulse width and Energy of Precursor and Main Burst

In gamma-ray burst prompt emission,there is still no consistent conclusion if the precursor and main burst share the same *** this paper,we try to study this issue based on the relationship between pulse width and energy of the precursor and main *** systematically search the light curve data observed by Swift/BAT and Fermi/GBM,and find 13 long bursts with well-structured precursors and main *** fitting the precursor light curve of each different energy channel with the Norris function,we find that there is not only a power-law relationship between precursor width and energy,but also a power-law relationship between the ratio of the rising width to the decaying width and *** comparing the relationship between the precursors and the main burst pulses,we find that the distribution of the precursors and the relationship between the power-law indices are roughly the same as those of the main *** addition,it is found that the precursor width distribution as well as the upper limit of the pulse width ratio does not exceed 1 and both are asymmetric,which are also consistent with the main *** indicate that the precursor and the main burst are indistinguishable,and the precursor and the main burst may have the same physical origin.

Coordination polymerization of renewable β-ocimene has been investigated using asymmetric diiminophosphinate lutetium complex1, β-diketiminate yttrium complex 2, bis(phosphino)carbazolide yttrium complex 3, half-sandwich benzyl fluorenyl scandium complex 4 and pyridyl-methylene-fluorenyl rare-metal complexes 5a–5c. Complexes 1, 4 and 5a–5c show trans-1,2-regioselectivities and high activities, of which 5c exhibits excellent isoselectivity(mmmm>99%). Conversely, complexes 2 and 3 promote β-ocimene polymerization to produce isotactic cis-1,4-polyocimenes(cis-1,4>99%, mm>95%). Diblock copolymers cis-1,4-PIP-block-cis-1,4-POc and cis-1,4-PBD-block-cis-1,4-POc are obtained in one-pot reactions of β-ocimene with isoprene and butadiene using complex 3. Epoxidation and hydroxylation of polyocimene afford functionalized polyolefins with enhanced T_(g)(from-20 ℃ to 79 ℃ and 74 ℃) and hydrophilicity.

Multi-Level Parallel Network for Brain Tumor Segmentation

Accurate automatic segmentation of gliomas in various sub-regions,including peritumoral edema,necrotic core,and enhancing and non-enhancing tumor core from 3D multimodal MRI images,is challenging because of its highly heterogeneous appearance and *** convolution neural networks(CNNs)have recently improved glioma segmentation ***,extensive down-sampling such as pooling or stridden convolution in CNNs significantly decreases the initial image resolution,resulting in the loss of accurate spatial and object parts information,especially information on the small sub-region tumors,affecting segmentation ***,this paper proposes a novel multi-level parallel network comprising three different level parallel subnetworks to fully use low-level,mid-level,and high-level information and improve the performance of brain tumor *** also introduce the Combo loss function to address input class imbalance and false positives and negatives imbalance in deep *** proposed method is trained and validated on the BraTS 2020 training and validation *** the validation dataset,ourmethod achieved a mean Dice score of 0.907,0.830,and 0.787 for the whole tumor,tumor core,and enhancing tumor core,*** with state-of-the-art methods,the multi-level parallel network has achieved competitive results on the validation dataset.

Precipitation and evolution of nodular graphite during solidification process of ductile iron

The quantity and morphology of spheroidal graphite have an important effect on the properties of ductile iron, and the characteristics of spheroidal graphite are determined by the solidification process. The aim of this work is to explore the precipitation and evolution of graphite nodules in hypoeutectic, eutectic, and hypereutectic ductile irons by thermal analysis, liquid quenching and metallographic technique. Results show that hypoeutectic ductile iron has the longest solidification time and the lowest eutectic temperature;eutectic ductile iron has the shortest solidification time;hypereutectic ductile iron has the highest eutectic temperature. After solidification is completed, hypoeutectic ductile iron has the lowest nodule count, nodularity and graphite fraction;eutectic ductile iron has the highest nodule count, nodularity and the smallest nodule diameter;hypereutectic has the highest nodule diameter and graphite fraction. The nucleation and growth of graphite nodules in hypereutectic ductile iron starts before bulk eutectic crystallization stage, however, the precipitation and evolution of graphite nodules of hypoeutectic and eutectic ductile irons mainly occur in the eutectic crystallization stage. The graphite precipitated in eutectic crystallization of hypoeutectic, eutectic, and hypereutectic ductile irons, are 61%, 68% and 43% of total graphite volume fraction, respectively. Simultaneously, there are plenty of austenite dendrites in hypoeutectic and hypereutectic ductile irons, which are prone to shrinkage defects. Therefore, the eutectic ductile iron has the smallest shrinkage tendency.

Coastal management in China is confronted with an urgent choice between natural restoration and maintenance of existing seawalls and reclaimed land for economic development.A key criterion for making this decision is the resilience to coastal flooding,which depends on the ability to predict tidal *** duration asymmetry(TDA)is a key parameter in determination of the arrival and duration of flood *** study selected the western inner shelf of the Yellow Sea(WYS)as the study area and investigated the responses of TDA to different shoreline configurations and relative sea level *** responses of TDA to shoreline reconstruction yielded spatial variability locally and *** the nearshore area,the responses of TDA to the complex ocean environment mainly originated from the combined functions of reflection,bottom friction,and advection,which controlled the energy transfer from M2 or S2 constituents to their overtides or compound *** sensitivity of TDA to coastline typologies was not limited to coastal waters but could stretch over the entire inner *** vulnerability of tidal responses was due to the displacement of the M2 amphidrome of the Kelvin wave on the WYS,which in turn changed tidal energy fluxes over the *** relative sea level rise could intensify the feedback of TDA to seawalls and land reclamation.
