Evaluating the use of three-dimensional reconstruction visualization technology for precise laparoscopic resection in gastroesophageal junction cancer

BACKGROUND Laparoscopic gastrectomy for esophagogastric junction (EGJ) carcinoma enables the removal of the carcinoma at the junction between the stomach and esophagus while preserving the gastric function, thereby providing patients with better treatment outcomes and quality of life. Nonetheless, this surgical technique also presents some challenges and limitations. Therefore, three-dimensional reconstruction visualization technology (3D RVT) has been introduced into the procedure, providing doctors with more comprehensive and intuitive anatomical information that helps with surgical planning, navigation, and outcome evaluation. AIM To discuss the application and advantages of 3D RVT in precise laparoscopic resection of EGJ carcinomas. METHODS data were obtained from the electronic or paper-based medical records at The First Affiliated Hospital of Hebei North University from January 2020 to June 2022. A total of 120 patients diagnosed with EGJ carcinoma were included in the study. Of these, 68 underwent laparoscopic resection after computed tomography (CT)-enhanced scanning and were categorized into the 2D group, whereas 52 underwent laparoscopic resection after CT-enhanced scanning and 3D RVT and were categorized into the 3D group. This study had two outcome measures: the deviation between tumor-related factors (such as maximum tumor diameter and infiltration length) in 3D RVT and clinical reality, and surgical outcome indicators (such as operative time, intraoperative blood loss, number of lymph node dissections, R0 resection rate, postoperative hospital stay, postoperative gas discharge time, drainage tube removal time, and related complications) between the 2D and 3D groups. RESULTS Among patients included in the 3D group, 27 had a maximum tumor diameter of less than 3 cm, whereas 25 had a diameter of 3 cm or more. In actual surgical observations, 24 had a diameter of less than 3 cm, whereas 28 had a diameter of 3 cm or more. The findings were consistent between the two methods (chi(2

Texture Induced by Molecular Weight Dispersity: Polymorphism within Poly(L-lactic acid) Spherulites

Poly(L-lactic acid)(PLLA)has drawn much attention due to its excellent medical and pharmaceutical applications for decades.As a semi-crystalline polymer,morphology and crystal structure of PLLA greatly determine its properties.Here,w e demonstrate,for PLLA films,a nonconventional texture featuring two types of spherulites emerging in pairs to form a distinct nested structure where a small spherulite(〜10μm)is embedded in a large one(100μm to 300μm).In addition to the size,the molecular weight and polymorph are different in the large and small spherulites.Crystallographic a-form and relatively low molecular weight are identified in the large spherulites,while meta-stable a'-form and relatively high molecular weight in the small ones.These differences suggest that the polydisperse PLLA polymers fractionate during film formation and the high-molecular-weight fraction crystallizes into the small spherulites with meta-stable structure because of its complicated polymer entanglement and high viscosity.In contrast,the rest of polymers crystallize into the large spherulites with the thermodynamically stable polymorph.Furthermore,this texture exhibits accelerated PLLA degradation initiated from the small spherulites,which is distinct from the typical PLLA spherulites.Insights provided by this work may lead to new texture-properties relationship associated with polydispersity of molecular weight.

Medical services for sports injuries and illnesses in the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games

BACKGROUND:Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games was the second Games held amid the COVID-19 pandemic.To a certain extent,it has altered the way sporting activities operate.There is a lack of knowledge on injury risk and illness occurrence in elite winter sport athletes amid the COVID-19 pandemic.This study aimed to describe the incidence of injuries and illnesses sustained during the XXIV Olympic Winter Games in Beijing from February 4 to 20,2022.METHODS:We recorded the daily number of injuries and illnesses among athletes reported by Beijing 2022 medical staff in the polyclinic,medical venues,and ambulance.We calculated injury and illness incidence as the number of injuries or illnesses occurring during competition or training,respectively,with incidence presented as injuries/illnesses per 100 athlete-days.RESULTS:In total,2,897 athletes from 91 nations experienced injury or illness.Beijing 2022 medical staff reported 326 injuries and 80 illnesses,equaling 11.3 injuries and 2.8 illnesses per 100 athletes over the 17-day period.Altogether,11%of the athletes incurred at least one injury and nearly 3%incurred at least one illness.The number of injured athletes was highest in the skating sports(n=104),followed by alpine skiing(n=53),ice track(n=37),freestyle skiing(n=36),and ice hockey(n=35),and was the lowest in the Nordic skiing disciplines(n=20).Of the 326 injuries,14(4.3%)led to an estimated absence from training or competition of more than 1 week.A total of 52 injured athletes were transferred to hospitals for further care.The number of athletes with illness(n=80)was the highest for skating(n=33)and Nordic skiing(n=22).A total of 50 illnesses(62.5%)were admitted to the department of dentistry/ophthalmology/otolaryngology,and the most common cause of illness was other causes,including preexisting illness and medicine(n=52,65%).CONCLUSION:Overall,11%of athletes incurred at least one injury during the Games,which is similar to the findings during the Olympic Winter Games in 2014 and 2018.Regarding illness,2%of athlet

Molecular cloning and functional characterization of apple U-box E3 ubiquitin ligase gene MdPUB29 reveals its involvement in salt tolerance

An E3 ubiquitin ligase gene(Genbank accession no.:MD01 G1010900) was cloned from the Royal Gala apple genome(Malus×domestica Borkh.).Sequence analysis showed that the length of the MdPUB29 gene was 1 275 bp,encoding 424 amino acids.Phylogenetic tree analysis indicated that the apple E3 ubiquitin ligase exhibited the greatest sequence similarity to Pyrus×bretschneideri.The predicted protein structural domain of MdPUB29 showed that it contained a U-box domain.qRT-PCR analysis showed that Md PUB29 was expressed widely in different tissues of the Royal Gala apple species,and was highly expressed in the root,while the expression of MdPUB29 was significantly inhibited by exogenous NaCl.Immunoblotting assays revealed that MdPUB29 protein abundance in tissue cultures of the Royal Gala apple accumulated under NaC l stress conditions.Three-dimensional protein structure prediction indicated that MdPUB29 was highly homologous with AtPUB29.The growing potential of MdPUB29-expressing apple calli and Arabidopsis were much stronger than that of the control under salt stress conditions,suggesting that MdPUB29 may positively regulate salt tolerance.

With the deepening of research,proteomics has developed into a science covering the study of all the structural and functional characteristics of proteins and the dynamic change rules.The essence of various biological activities is revealed from the perspectives of the biological structure,functional activity and corresponding regulatory mechanism of proteins by proteomics.Among them,phospholipid-binding protein is one of the hotspots of proteomics,especially annexin A1,which is widely present in various tissues and cells of the body.It has the capability of binding to phospholipid membranes reversibly in a calcium ion dependent manner.In order to provide possible research ideas for researchers,who are interested in this protein,the biological effects of annexin A1,such as inflammatory regulation,cell signal transduction,cell proliferation,differentiation and apoptosis are described in this paper.

Incidence and prevalence levels of three aphid-transmitted viruses in crucifer crops in China

Poleroviruses,which are distributed worldwide,infect many crops of economic importance and cause severe plant diseases.Brassica yellows virus(Br YV),which has three genotypes,A,B,and C,is a newly identified polerovirus infecting crucifer crops in China,but its distribution is still unclear.Here,we report the distribution and prevalence levels of the three Br YV genotypes in crucifer crops in China.A total of 570 crucifer leaf samples randomly collected from 22 provinces,four ethnic minority autonomous regions,and three municipalities in China were tested for Br YV.RT-PCR detection showed that 97 of the field samples were positive for Br YV,and the average incidence of Br YV was 17.0%.The virus was detected in 22 provinces,with high incidences in north,northwest,and northeast China.The multiplex RT-PCR amplification of the three Br YV genotypes revealed that both single and mixed infections occurred.Among the Br YV infections,38.1% were mixinfected by more than two viral genotypes,and 8.2% samples were mix-infected by three viral genotypes.Our findings indicated a widespread prevalence of Br YV in China,and Br YV mixed infections with Turnip mosaic virus and Cucumber mosaic virus in crucifer crops are common.This study is the first large-scale survey of Br YV in crucifer crops in China.The information generated in this investigation will contribute to the national prevention and control of viral diseases.

Li metal is the most attractive and promising anode material for next-generation high-energy batteries.However,uncontrolled Li dendrite growth during cycling remains a highly challenging drawback.To solve this problem,silver-coated graphene(Ag/GH)was prepared via a simple liquid-phase reduction method.The effect of Ag/GH on Li deposition behavior was investigated by adjusting the dispersion of Ag nanoparticles(Ag NPs).Subsequently,a composite electrode was fabricated via uniform deposition of metallic Li on Ag/GH.Ag was used as a lithiophilic nucleating agent to ensure uniform deposition of Li and inhibit the growth of Li dendrites on the anode.The prepared composite anode showed a significantly improved performance compared to the unmodified electrode.The symmetric cell comprising this composite electrode exhibited a stable cycling performance with a low hysteresis of~40 mV and a lifetime of>2000 h at a current density of 0.5 mA·cm^(-2).Meanwhile,the discharge capacity reached 0.5 mAh·cm^(-2).In addition,Ag/GH was found to be amenable to large-scale synthesis.Thus,the composite Ag/GH anode exhibited improved performance and the preparation method showed significant potential for application in the manufacture of Li metal batteries.

Kinematic Control of Free Rigid Bodies Using Dual Quaternions

This paper proposes a new type of control laws for free rigid bodies. The start point is the dual quaternion and its characteristics. The logarithm of a dual quaternion is defined, based on which kinematic control laws can be developed. Global exponential convergence is achieved using logarithmic feedback via a generalized proportional control law, and an appropriate Lyapunov function is constructed to prove the stability. Both the regulation and tracking problems are tackled. Omnidirectional control is discussed as a case study. As the control laws can handle the interconnection between the rotation and translation of a rigid body, they are shown to be more applicable than the conventional method.

Auxin response factor gene MdaRF2 is involved in ABA signaling and salt stress response in apple

Auxin response factors(ARFs)play key roles throughout the whole process of plant growth and development,and mediate auxin response gene transcription by directly binding with auxin response elements(AuxREs).However,their functions in abiotic stresses are largely limited,especially in apples.Here,the auxin response factor gene MdaRF2(HF41569)was cloned from apple cultivar‘Royal Gala’(Malus×domestica Borkh.).Phylogenetic analysis showed that ARF2 proteins are highly conserved among different species and MdaRF2 is the closest relative to PpARF2 of Prunus persica,but they differ at the DNA level.MdaRF2 contains three typical conserved domains including the B3 DNAbinding domain,Auxin_resp domain and AUX_IAA domain.The subcellular localization demonstrated that MdaRF2 is localized in the nucleus.The three-dimensional structure prediction of the proteins showed that MdaRF2 is highly similar with AtARF2,and they contain helices,folds,and random coils.The promoter of MdaRF2 contains cis-acting elements which respond to various stresses,as well as environmental and hormonal signals.Expression analysis showed that MdaRF2 is widely expressed in all tissues of apple,with the highest expression of MdaRF2 in root.Functional analysis with a series of MdaRF2 transgenic apple calli indicated that MdaRF2 can reduce the sensitivity to ABA signaling and enhance salt tolerance in apple.In summary,the results of this research provide a new basis for studying the regulation of abiotic stresses by ARFs.

α-Fe_(2)O_(3)/Cu_(2)O composites as catalysts for photoelectrocatalytic degradation of benzotriazoles

Given the difficulties of degrading benzotriazole(BTA),this study used a one-pot hydrothermal method to prepareα-Fe_(2)O_(3)/Cu_(2)O(FC)composites for photoelectrocatalytic(PEC)degradation of BTA.The characterization of FC structure showed that Cu_(2)O in cubic crystals was loaded with circular sheets of Fe_(2)O_(3).Owing to this structure,FC showed efficient PEC degradation of BTA when exposed to ultraviolet light.The experimental results demonstrated that FC efficiently degraded BTA.When the PEC degradation continued for 60 min,100%degradation of BTA was achieved because FC enhanced the photoelectron-hole separation and the separation and transfer of articulated carriers.High per-formance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry showed that intermediates formed during the PEC degradation of BTA.Finally,various pathways for degradation of BTA were postulated.This FC-based PEC system provides a harmless and effective method for degradation of BTA.
