Improving landscape connectivity through habitat restoration:application for Asian elephant conservation in Xishuangbanna Prefecture,China

Habitat restoration is an effective method for improving landscape connectivity,which can reduce habitat *** landscape connectivity could promote connections between habitat,which is extremely essential to preserve gene flow and population *** study proposes a methodological framework to analyze landscape connectivity for Asian elephant habitat conservation,aiming to provide practical options for reducing habitat fragmentation and improving habitat *** approach involved combining a species distribution model using MaxEnt and landscape functional connectivity models using graph theory to assess the impact on connectivity improvement via farmland/plantation restoration as *** results showed that:(1)there were 119 suitable habitat patches of Asian elephant covering a total area of 1952.41 km^(2).(2)The connectivity between habitats improved significantly after vegetation restoration and the gain first decreased and then increased with the increase of dispersal distance.(3)The first few new habitat patches that were identified played an important role in improving connectivity,and the variation rate of connectivity gradually leveled off as the number of new habitats increased.(4)Prioritization of the 25 best new habitat patches increased connectivity from 0.54%to 5.59%as the dispersal distance increased and mainly was located between two Asian elephant distribution regions and two *** of new habitat patches was effective for improving or restoring *** findings can be used as guidance for improving the studied fragmented Asian elephant habitats,and they can also be used as a reference for the habitat restoration of other endangered species heavily affected by habitat fragmentation.

Coupled extension and thickness-twist vibrations of lateral field excited AT-cut quartz plates

In this paper, the coupled extension and thickness- twist vibrations are studied for AT-cut quartz plates under Lateral Field Excitation （LFE） with variations along the x1- direction. Mindlin＇s two-dimensional equations are used for anisotropic crystal plates. Both free and electrically forced vibrations are considered. Important vibration characteristics are obtained, including dispersion relations, frequency spectra, and motional capacitances. It is shown that, to avoid the effects of the couplings between extension and thickness-twist vibrations, a series of discrete values of the length/thickness ratio of the crystal plate need to be excluded. The results are of fundamental significance for the design of LFE resonators and sensors.

MPI-RCDD: A Framework for MPI Runtime Communication Deadlock Detection

The message passing interface (MPI) has become a de facto standard for programming models of highperformance computing, but its rich and flexible interface semantics makes the program easy to generate communication deadlock, which seriously affects the usability of the system. However, the existing detection tools for MPI communication deadlock are not scalable enough to adapt to the continuous expansion of system scale. In this context, we propose a framework for MPI runtime communication deadlock detection, namely MPI-RCDD, which contains three kinds of main mechanisms. Firstly, MPI-RCDD has a message logging protocol that is associated with deadlock detection to ensure that the communication messages required for deadlock analysis are not lost. Secondly, it uses the asynchronous processing thread provided by the MPI to implement the transfer of dependencies between processes, so that multiple processes can participate in deadlock detection simultaneously, thus alleviating the performance bottleneck problem of centralized analysis. In addition, it uses an AND⊕OR model based algorithm named AODA to perform deadlock analysis work. The AODA algorithm combines the advantages of both timeout-based and dependency-based deadlock analysis approaches, and allows the processes in the timeout state to search for a deadlock circle or knot in the process of dependency transfer. Further, the AODA algorithm cannot lead to false positives and can represent the source of the deadlock accurately. The experimental results on typical MPI communication deadlock benchmarks such as Umpire Test Suit demonstrate the capability of MPIRCDD. Additionally, the experiments on the NPB benchmarks obtain the satisfying performance cost, which show that the MPI-RCDD has strong scalability.

Adsorption of Benzene and Propylene in Zeolite ZSM-5:Grand Canonical Monte Carlo Simulations

The adsorption behavior of benzene and propylene in zeolite ZSM-5 was studied by Grand Canonical Monte Carlo（GCMC） simulations. It could be found that benzene and propylene molecules showed different adsorption behavior in the zeolite cavities. The loadings of propylene were significantly larger than those of benzene at 100 kPa. From the figures of potential energy distribution, the potential energy of benzene/zeolite was more negative than that of propylene/zeolite, so benzene could be adsorbed more stably than propylene. When the temperature was in- creased from 298 to 443 K at 100 kPa, the loading ofpropylene was reduced from 99 to 82 molecules, whereas that of benzene changed little. When benzene and propylene were adsorbed in zeolite simultaneously, the competitive adsorption of them occurred; therefore, the potential energy distribution could be changed significantly. Besides, the adsorption isotherms of benzene and propylene in ZSM-5 at 298 and 443 K were simulated. The results exhibit that the different factors influenced the molecular adsorption at various temperatures and pressures, leading to the diffe- rent rules for the adsorption of benzene and propylene molecules in the zeolite. At a low pressure, the unfavorable energy of propylene/zeolite and the ＂commensurate freezing＂ phenomenon of benzene would make the loadings of itself higher than those of propylene. When pressure was higher than 5 kPa, the adsorption of benzene in ZSM-5 would nearly reach saturation.

A bio-based epoxy resin derived from p-hydroxycinnamic acid with high mechanical properties and flame retardancy

Recent advances in epoxy resins have been forward to achieving high mechanical performance,thermal stability,and flame ***,seeking sustainable bio-based epoxy precursors and avoiding introduction of additional flame-retardant agents are still of increasing *** we report the synthesis of p-hydroxycinnamic acid-derived epoxy monomer(HCA-EP)via a simple one-step reaction,and the HCA-EP can be cured with 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane(DDM)to prepare epoxy *** with the typical petroleum-based epoxy resin,bisphenol A epoxy resin,the HCA-EP-DDM shows a relatively high glass transition temperature(192.9℃)and impressive mechanical properties(tensile strength of 98.3 MPa and flexural strength of 158.9 MPa).Furthermore,the HCA-EP-DDM passes the V-1 flammability rating in UL-94 test and presents the limiting oxygen index of 32.6%.Notably,its char yield is as high as 31.6%under N_(2),and the peak heat rate release is 60%lower than that of bisphenol A epoxy *** findings provide a simple way of using p-hydroxycinnamic acid instead of bisphenol A to construct high-performance bio-based thermosets.

Effect of Acupuncture on Ovary Morphology and Function in DHEA-Induced Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Model Rats

This paper is concerned with sampled-data consensus of first-order delayed multi-agent systems with delayed-state-derivative feedback. First, the delay decomposition technique is used for obtaining the consensus protocol based on sampled-data. Then, the stability theory of linear systems and the algebra graph theory are employed to derive the necessary and sufficient conditions about the sampling period guaranteeing the achievement of consensus. Last, simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Dear Editor,Mink circovirus (MiCV), which is clustered in the genus Circovirus of the family Circoviridae, was first described in minks from farms in Dalian, China in 2013 (lian et al.2014). The complete single-stranded circular genome of the virus is 1,753 nucleotides long and contains two major open reading frames (ORFs), designated ORF1 (Rep gene)and ORF2 (Cap gene)(lian et al. 2014;Ge et al. 2018).

Progressive memory loss and cognitive impairment are the main clinical manifestations of Alzheimer’s disease(AD).Currently,there is no effective drug available for the treatment of *** studies have demonstrated that the cognitive impairment of AD is associated with oxidative stress and the inhibition of AKT and ERK *** seed proanthocyanidin extract(GSPE)has been shown to have strong antioxidant effect and can protect the nervous system from oxidative stress *** study aimed to investigate the protective effect of GSPE on the cognitive and synaptic impairments of AD using a sporadic AD rat model induced by intracerebroventricular(ICV)injection of streptozotocin(STZ)(ICV-STZ).Rats were treated with GSPE(50,100,or 200 mg/kg every day)by intragastrical(ig.)administration for continuous 7 weeks,and ICV-STZ(3 mg/kg)was performed on the first day and third day of week *** and memory abilities were assessed by the Morris water maze(MWM)test at week *** behavioral test,hippocampal long-term potentiation(LTP)was recorded,and the levels of malondialdehyde(MDA),superoxide dismutases(SOD),glutathione(GSH)and the protein expression of AKT and ERK were measured in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex of *** study revealed that ICV-STZ significantly impaired the working learning ability and hippocampal LTP of rats,significantly increased the levels of MDA,and decreased the activity of SOD and GSH in the hippocampus and cerebral *** contrast,GSPE treatment prevented the impairment of cognitive function and hippocampal LTP induced by ICV-STZ,decreased the level of MDA,and increased the level of SOD and ***,Western blot results showed that GSPE treatment could prevent the loss of AKT and ERK activities in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex induced by *** findings demonstrate that GSPE treatment could ameliorate the impairment of cognitive ability and hippocampal synaptic plasticity in a rat model of sporadic AD
