Numerical investigation of alleviation of undesirable effect of inter-blade vortex with air admission for a low-head Francis turbine

In order to compensate for the stochastic nature of the power grid due to the tremendous development and the integration of renewable energy resources and meet its other requirements,the hydraulic turbines are forced to operate more frequently under partial load conditions with singular and misaligned flows inevitably excited by the inter-blade *** paper presents numerical investigations of the unsteady characteristics of the inter-blade vortex for a low-head model Francis *** SST k-ωturbulent model is used to close the unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS)*** flow structure of the inter blade vortex predicted by the numerical simulation is confirmed by experimental *** is shown that the total vortex volume in the runner sees a quasi-periodical oscillation,with significant flow separations created on the suction side of the runner blade.A counter measure by using the air admission into the water from the head cover is implemented to alleviate the undesirable effect of the inter-blade *** analyses show that the development of the inter-blade vortex is significantly mitigated by the injecting air that controls and changes the spatial distribution of ***,the flow aeration with a suitable air flow rate can reduce the energy dissipation caused by the inter-blade vortex and plays a critical role in preventing the excessive amplitudes of the pressure fluctuation on the suction side of the runner *** investigation provides an insight into the flow mechanism underlying the inter-blade vortex and offers a reference to alleviate and mitigate the adverse consequences of the inter-blade vortex for the Francis turbine.

Ultra-low power S-Boxes architecture for AES

It is crucial to design energy-efficient advanced encryption standard （AES） cryptography for low power embedded systems powered by limited battery. Since the S-Boxes consume much of the total AES circuit power, an efficient approach to reducing the AES power consumption consists in reducing the S-Boxes power consumption. Among various implementations of S-Boxes, the most energy-efficient one is the decoder-switchencoder （DSE） architecture. In this paper, we refine the DSE architecture and propose one faster, more compact S-Boxes architecture of lower power： an improved and full-balanced DSE architecture. This architecture achieves low power consumption of 68 μW at 10 MHz using 0.25 ktm *** UMC CMOS technology. Compared with the original DSE S-Boxes, it further reduces the delay, gate count and power consumption by 8%, 14% and 10% respect/vely. At the sane time, simulation results show that the improved DSE S-Boxes has the best performance among various S-Boxes architectures in terms of power-area product and power-delay product, and it is optimal for implementing low power AES cryptography.

Four different welding sequences of double-pulse MIG welding were conducted for 6061-T6 aluminum alloy automobile bumpers by using nonlinear elastoplasticity finite element method based on ABAQUS *** post-welding residual stress and deformation were definitely different among the four welding *** results showed that the highest temperature in Solution A was approximately 200℃higher than the melting point of base *** residual stress was resulted from this large temperature gradient and mainly concentrated on the welding vicinity between beam and crash *** welding deformation primarily occurred in both of the contraction of two-ends of the beam and the self-contraction of crash *** with other welding sequences,the residual stress in Solution A was the smallest,whereas the welding deformation was the ***,the optimal sequence was Solution B because of the effective reduction of residual stress and good assembly requirements.

To understand the mechanical and twinning behaviors of a fine-grained extruded Mg-8.0Al-0.1Mn-2.0Ca alloy under high-speed impact,impact tests were carried out using a split Hopkinson pressure bar,and microstructures at strains of 0.05,0.10 and 0.20 were obtained using a series of stop rings manufactured by high-strength *** stress response and twinning behavior are closely related to loading direction and applied strain *** true stress-true strain curves are s-shaped in extrusion direction(ED)and c-shaped in transverse direction(TD),showing apparent anisotropy,while the yield strength is insensitive to loading *** identical strain-rate sensitivity is demonstrated by the stress in ED and ***,de-twinning is apparent as the applied strain increases to 0.20,and it is enhanced with increasing the applied strain *** contrast,the twin density in ED samples is clearly higher than that in TD *** modifying the terms of strain hardening and strain rate hardening in the classical JC model,an optimized model is built,which can accurately predict the stress response behavior of the studied alloy under high-speed impact along ED and *** correlation coefficient(R)and average absolute relative error(AARE)are 98.63%and 0.0199 for ED,and 96.88%and 0.0202 for TD,respectively.

Effect of slag composition on kinetic behavior of deep deoxidation of 5 wt.% Si high-silicon austenitic stainless steel

Based on a thermodynamic study of 5 wt.%Si high-silicon austenitic stainless steel(SS-5Si)smelting using CaF_(2)-CaO-Al_(2)0_(3)-Mg-Si0_(2) slag to obtain a low oxygen content of less than 10×10^(-4) wt.%,a kinetic mass transfer model for deep deoxidation was established through laboratory studies,and the effects of slag components and temperature on deoxidation during the slag-steel reaction process of sS-5Si were systematically *** experimental data verified the accuracy of the model *** results showed that the final oxygen content in the steel at 1873 K was mainly controlled by the oxygen content derived from the activity of SiO_(2) regulated by the[Si]-[O]equilibrium reaction in the slag system;in particular,when the slag basicity R(R=w(CaO)/w(SiO2),where w(CaO)and w(SiO_(2))are the contents of CaO and SiO_(2) in the slag,respectively)is 3,the Al2O3 content in the slag needs to be less than 2.7%.The mass transfer rate equation for the kinetics of the deoxidation reaction revealed that the mass transfer of oxygen in the liquid metal is the rate-controlling step under different slag conditions at 1873 K,and the oxygen transfer coefficient ko.m increases with increasing the slag basicity from 4.0×10^(-6)m s^(-1)(R=1)to 4.3×10^(-5) m s^(-1)(R=3).ko.m values at R=2 and R=3 are almost the same,indicating that high slag basicity has little *** integral of the mass transfer rate equation for the deoxidation reaction of SS-5Si under different slag conditions is *** total oxygen content of the molten steel decreases with increasing basicity from an initial content of 22×10^(-4) to 3.2×10^(-4) wt.%(R=3),consistent with the change in ko.m with slag *** R=2,the slag-steel reaction takes 15 min to reach equilibrium(w[O]=5.5×10^(-4) wt.%),whereas at R=3,the slag-steel reaction takes 30 min to reach equilibrium(w[0]=3.2×10^(-4) wt.%).Considering the depth of deoxidation and reaction time of SS-5Si smelting,it is recommended the slag b

Multi-objective optimization and evaluation of supercritical CO_(2) Brayton cycle for nuclear power generation

The supercritical CO_(2) Brayton cycle is considered a promising energy conversion system for Generation IV reactors for its simple layout,compact structure,and high cycle *** models of four Brayton cycle layouts are developed in this study for different reactors to reduce the cost and increase the thermohydraulic performance of nuclear power generation to promote the commercialization of nuclear *** analysis,multi-objective optimizations,and four decision-making methods are applied to obtain each Brayton scheme’s optimal thermohydraulic and economic *** show that for the same design thermal power scale of reactors,the higher the core’s exit temperature,the better the Brayton cycle’s thermo-economic *** the four-cycle layouts,the recompression cycle(RC)has the best overall performance,followed by the simple recuperation cycle(SR)and the intercooling cycle(IC),and the worst is the reheating cycle(RH).However,RH has the lowest total cost of investment(C_(tot))of$1619.85 million,and IC has the lowest levelized cost of energy(LCOE)of 0.012$/(kWh).The nuclear Brayton cycle system’s overall performance has been improved due to *** performance of the molten salt reactor combined with the intercooling cycle(MSR-IC)scheme has the greatest improvement,with the net output power(W_(net)),thermal efficiencyη_(t),and exergy efficiency(η_(e))improved by 8.58%,8.58%,and 11.21%,*** performance of the lead-cooled fast reactor combined with the simple recuperation cycle scheme was optimized to increase C_(tot) by 27.78%.In comparison,the internal rate of return(IRR)increased by only 7.8%,which is not friendly to investors with limited *** the nuclear Brayton cycle,the molten salt reactor combined with the recompression cycle scheme should receive priority,and the gas-cooled fast reactor combined with the reheating cycle scheme should be considered carefully.

Numerical investigation of the effect of T-shaped blade on the energy performance improvement of a semi-open centrifugal pump

The tip leakage flow formed by the tip clearance of a semi-open centrifugal pump adversely affects the energy performance and the energy waste. A T-shaped blade is proposed to be used to improve the energy characteristics. The internal flow field is simulated via the shear stress transport turbulence model to analyze the influence of the T-shaped blade on the performance of a centrifugal pump. It is shown that with the T-shaped blade, the hydraulic loss can be reduced, the Euler head can be increased, and the external characteristics can be improved. The maximum head and efficiency improvements are 3% and 1.6%, respectively. The relative flow angle near the tip clearance of the T-shaped blade decreases, and the strength of the backflow region is remarkably weakened. The area of the high entropy production region decreases, and the trend of the upstream diffusion is restrained under the design condition. The T-shaped blade can help to inhibit the diffusion of the high entropy production region to the hub under the low flow rate condition, but the entropy production and the mixing losses at the tip clearance are slightly increased. This research provides a new method for improving the energy performance of the semi-open centrifugal pump.

Oilfield analogy and productivity prediction based on machine learning: Field cases in PL oilfield, China

In the early time of oilfield development, insufficient production data and unclear understanding of oil production presented a challenge to reservoir engineers in devising effective development plans. To address this challenge, this study proposes a method using data mining technology to search for similar oil fields and predict well productivity. A query system of 135 analogy parameters is established based on geological and reservoir engineering research, and the weight values of these parameters are calculated using a data algorithm to establish an analogy system. The fuzzy matter-element algorithm is then used to calculate the similarity between oil fields, with fields having similarity greater than 70% identified as similar oil fields. Using similar oil fields as sample data, 8 important factors affecting well productivity are identified using the Pearson coefficient and mean decrease impurity（MDI） method. To establish productivity prediction models, linear regression（LR）, random forest regression（RF）, support vector regression（SVR）, backpropagation（BP）, extreme gradient boosting（XGBoost）, and light gradient boosting machine（Light GBM） algorithms are used. Their performance is evaluated using the coefficient of determination（R2）, explained variance score（EV）, mean squared error（MSE）, and mean absolute error（MAE） metrics. The Light GBM model is selected to predict the productivity of 30 wells in the PL field with an average error of only 6.31%, which significantly improves the accuracy of the productivity prediction and meets the application requirements in the field. Finally, a software platform integrating data query,oil field analogy, productivity prediction, and knowledge base is established to identify patterns in massive reservoir development data and provide valuable technical references for new reservoir development.

Cryptic diversity and rampant hybridization in annual gentians on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau revealed by population genomic analysis

Understanding the evolutionary and ecological processes involved in population differentiation and speciation provides critical insights into biodiversity formation. In this study, we employed 29,865 single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) and complete plastomes to examine genomic divergence and hybridization in Gentiana aristata, which is endemic to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP) region. Genetic clustering revealed that G. aristata is characterized by geographic genetic structures with five clusters(West, East, Central, South and North). The West cluster has a specific morphological character(i.e., blue corolla) and higher values of FSTcompared to the remaining clusters, likely the result of the geological barrier formed by the Yangtze River. The West cluster diverged from the other clusters in the Early Pliocene;these remaining clusters diverged from one another in the Early Quaternary. Phylogenetic reconstructions based on SNPs and plastid data revealed substantial cyto-nuclear conflicts. Genetic clustering and D-statistics demonstrated rampant hybridization between the Central and North clusters,along the Bayankala Mountains, which form the geological barrier between the Central and North clusters. Species distribution modeling demonstrated the range of G. aristata expanded since the Last Interglacial period. Our findings provide genetic and morphological evidence of cryptic diversity in G. aristata, and identified rampant hybridization between genetic clusters along a geological *** findings suggest that geological barriers and climatic fluctuations have an important role in triggering diversification as well as hybridization, indicating that cryptic diversity and hybridization are essential factors in biodiversity formation within the QTP region.
