Influence of Lead and Cadmium Concentration on the Accumulation Capacity of Panicum maximum

The restoration of soils polluted by trace metals (Pb and Cd) by phytoremediation is an innovative and ecologically sustainable solution. The objective of the study was to develop a process of phytoaccumulation of trace metals (Pb and Cd) in soils with the species Panicum maximum. For this purpose, 30 buckets containing soil were used. These included six (06) buckets per dose of soil contamination by Pb and Cd (3 mg/kg and 9 mg/kg of Cd and 100 mg/kg and 300 mg/kg of Pb) and six (6) buckets containing uncontaminated soil (control). During a period of 90 days of experimentation, the concentrations of trace metals in the plant biomass and in the soils were measured. Also, the bioaccumulation (BF) and translocation (TF) factors, the mass of Pb and Cd taken up by the plant were determined. The results showed that the biomass produced was negatively influenced by increasing Pb and Cd concentration. The concentrations of Pb and Cd accumulated by P. maximum varied in the aboveground biomass from 6.48 ± 0.55 to 18.09 ± 0.71 mg/kg (Pb100);from 10.93 ± 0.38 to 23.04 ± 0.79 mg/kg (Pb300);from 0.91 ± 0.02 to 1.50 ± 0.03 mg/kg (Cd3);and from 3.05 ± 0.08 to 5.43 ± 0.09 mg/kg (Cd9) from day 30 to day 90. However, in the root biomass, trace metals (Pb and Cd) ranged from 8.09 ± 0.58 to 22.57 ± 0.86 mg/kg (Pb100);from 29.45 ± 0.49 to 62.35 ± 0.82 mg/kg (Pb300);from 0.66 ± 0.01 to 1.11 ± 0.07 mg/kg (Cd3);and from 2.22 ± 0.08 to 3, 97 ± 0.09 mg/kg (Cd9), from day 30 to day 90. Pb was concentrated in the root biomass and Cd in the aboveground biomass. Bioaccumulation factor values ranged from 0.26 ± 0.02 to 0.99 ± 0.04 (Pb100);from 0.21 ± 0.04 to 0.50 ± 0.06 (Pb300);from 0.83 ± 0.09 to 1.72 ± 0.18 (Cd3);and from 0.70 ± 0.08 to 1.54 ± 0.18 (Cd9). High concentrations of Pb and Cd show a negative effect on the accumulation potential of P. maximum.

Phytoaccumulation Potential of Three endogenous Poaceae Species Grown on the Akouedo Landfill (Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire)

The selection of adequate plant species is a prerequisite for cleaning-up trace metal contaminated-soils by phytoaccumulation which is a cost-effective and environmentally-friendly technology. The potential of Panicum maximum, eleusine indica and Cynodon dactylon to uptake trace metals from the soil of the Akouedo landfill was investigated. The concentrations of trace metals in soil were also considered. Moreover, the accumulation of Zn, Ni, Cu, Pb and Cd was assessed based on bioconcentration factor, translocation factor. The results showed high concentration values in the soil of the abandoned and the operation site of the landfill compare to the control site. The highest concentrations of trace metals in the plant shoot were observed with P. maximum for Ni. In root biomass, Zn, Cu and Cd showed high concentrations with P. maximum, e. indica and C. dactylon. Furthermore, the highest values of bioconcentration factor (BCF) and the translocation factor (TF) for Ni, were respectively 111.98 ± 82.45 and 4.26 ± 1.75 and were recorded with P. maximum. P. maximum, suggesting that it can be considered as a Ni hyperaccumulator.

该文实验研究了气泡聚并对核态池沸腾换热的影响。在恒壁温的边界条件下,利用微加热器阵列加热液态FC-72产生气泡,同时利用高速数据采集系统测量特定区域的热流密度。由于气泡之间液体层的蒸发和气泡聚并后产生的振荡,沸腾过程中发生气泡聚并时热流密度的波动远强于加热表面仅有单气泡生成时的情形。与单气泡成核相比,气泡聚并所产生的振荡提高了加热表面的再润湿频率,从而显著增加了平均传热。观测还表明,由于气泡之间的液体层被仍处于惯性生长阶段的气泡推离,气泡聚并速度非常快时并不会伴随热流量的增加。实验结果表明:当无量纲的聚并数Ncoal>0.2时,气泡聚并能够增强换热;反之,当Ncoal<0.2时,气泡聚并则会减弱换热。

The simultaneous double volvulus of the transverse colon and sigmoid in the same patient is a rare cause of intestinal occlusion. Two cases were observed in general surgery in Kati. Its clinical symptomatology does not differ from other occlusions as well as simple radiological images. It is an extreme surgical emergency, the diagnosis is generally intraoperative. extensive left hemi colectomy with terminoterminal rectal anastomosis was performed. The surgical follow-up was simple.

Spatial Availability of Nitrogen and Pesticides in the Surface Layers of Agricultural Soils of Tropical Hydrosystems in the Wet Season: Case of the BéréWatershed in Côte d’Ivoire (West Africa)

The objective of this study was to assess the contribution of the spatial organization of cropping systems and the physicochemical properties of surface layers of the agricultural zones soils in tropical hydrosystems to the spatial availability of nitrogen and pesticides during the wet season, such as the Béré watershed (BW) in C?te d’Ivoire. For this purpose, after mapping the spatial distribution of the BW cropping systems based on the likelihood classification methodology of satellite images of the study area, 27 samples from the 0 - 20 cm horizon of the soil surface layers of the agricultural areas were taken during the wet and agricultural season of the year 2016. The Kjeldahl method has been used to evaluate the total nitrogen concentration and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) chain made it possible for the analysis of pesticide residues in the soil solutions. Geostatistical analysis and processing of spatial data and physicochemical and agrochemical soil parameters revealed that two major agricultural areas stand out in the BW, namely the Béré upstream watershed (BUW) dominated at 32.65% by annual croppings (maize, cotton, rainfed or lowland rice, market gardening, etc.) and the Béré downstream watershed (BDW) by large areas of perennial croppings (cashew nuts, cocoa, etc.), em>i.e.em> 21.47%. Agricultural soils in BW are usually of the moderately desaturated ferralitic type with a low acid pH and a quite strong temperature, such as those of tropical soils’ characteristics. However, agricultural soils in the BUW are characterized by higher proportions of sand and coarse sand. The parameters such as total porosity, cation exchange capacity, clay, organic matter, silt, fine silt, coarse silt, and potassium ions, are higher in the soils of the agricultural area of the BDW. Anti-Hemorrhoidal Medicinal Plants of the Department of Issia: Inventory and Cytotoxicity on HFF Cells of the ethanolic extract 70% of Landolphia utilis A. Chev. (Apocynaceae)

Objective: To identify the anti-hemorrhoidal medicinal plants of the Department of Issia and evaluate the cytotoxic activity of the most requested species. Methods: The plants used in hemorrhoid recipes in the Department of Issia (C?te d’Ivoire) were obtained using a semi-structured survey based on a questionnaire sheet. To assess the use of plants on the disease, Informant Consensus Factors (ICF) for each species were calculated. The harvested species were identified at the Centre National de Floristique (CNF) of the Félix Houphou?t Boigny University (C?te d’Ivoire). Cytotoxicity tests were performed on HFF cells with the 70% ethanolic extract, prepared from the aqueous extract of the most cited species. Results: A total of twenty four medicinal species in eighteen families were recorded. Among these taxa are ten woody and fourteen herbaceous. Only three species gave an ICF greater than 0.5. The ethanolic extract 70% of the frequently requested medicinal plant did not reveal any toxicity on HFF cells. Conclusion: These results revealed that the flora of the Department of Issia is rich in anti-hemorrhoidal medicinal plant species. Their use without side effects is revealed by the absence of toxicity in one of the most solicited plants.

Smoking Addiction and Risk Factors in Teenagers in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire

A prospective cross-sectional descriptive and analytical study was conducted using an individual questionnaire over a four-month period from October 04th, 2013 to February 06th, 2014 in Abidjan. It included teenagers aged from 13 to 17 who are students among which some are not attending school and living in the street for others. The purpose of this study was to describe the socio-demographic characteristics of the teenagers addicted to smoking and to determine the factors associated with smoking addiction. 446 teenagers were recruited. A prospective cross-sectional descriptive and analytical study was conducted over a four-month period from October 4th, 2013 to February 06, 2014 in Abidjan. There were 76% boys versus 26% girls. The prevalence of smoking addiction was 81.9% for teenagers not attending school and living in the street and 18.1% for teenage students. The average age of smoking initiation was 12.9 years. Sources of motivation for tobacco consumption were imitation (31.25%), curiosity (29.46%) and the desire of self-assertiveness (17.85%). Being of male sex, having non-educated parents, being in a single-parent home and in a family with more than five children were the features related to the status of teenagers not attending school and living in the street. Smoking addiction in teenagers was influenced by one of the parents smoking addiction. To address the problem of teenager addicted to smoking in Cote d’Ivoire, tobacco control interventions should be taken into account regarding to the psychosocial characteristics of teenagers, especially those living in the street.

Assessment of Phytosanitary Practices in Peri-Urban Agriculture and Associated environmental and Health Impacts in Developing Countries: Case of Abengourou City (Côte d’Ivoire)

The use of phytosanitary products remains uncontrolled and abusive in the practice of market gardening in most developing countries. However, it remains one of the potential sources of environmental contamination and public health problems. This study examines the health and environmental risks associated with the use of phytosanitary products in market gardening in the town of Abengourou in Cote d’Ivoire. Field surveys carried out among all (30) market gardener sites housed 150 farmers showed that when the products were spread, no health and safety measures were observed. Approximately 80% of the respondents did not wear gloves or face masks. Some products used were not approved for market gardening. Farmers had itching, dizziness, headaches, colds and vomiting on a regular basis when applying the products. The study also revealed the presence of empty packaging in the surrounding surface water and on the ground. In addition to producers, this type of uncontrolled market gardening likely exposes consumers to high health risks and also contributes to environmental degradation. Raising awareness among stakeholders of good agricultural practices could help promote sustainable market gardening. However, studies of the effects of products in such an environment on the health of consumers deserve to be carried out.

In Ivory Coast,beekeeping takes an important place among the major economic *** contributes to improv-ing the population’s livelihoods thanks to its derived products which are honey,propolis,wax and royal ***-ever,the installation of honey bee hives could put pressure on wild bee species,which often live ***,these wild bees are excellent pollinators of cultivated and wild *** study aimed to assess the effect of honey bee hives on the diversity of wild *** methodology approach consisted of capturing bees in three different plots inside the forest fragment of the botanical garden located at the University Peleforo Gon *** first plot was chosen approximately from 10 m to an apiary containing ten *** two other plots were chosen to be 200 m and 400 m from the apiary,*** were captured once a month for three months using pan traps(UV—blue,yellow and white).A total of 17 bee species belonging to three families(Apidae,Megachilidae and Halictidae)were *** furthest plot from the apiary was the most diverse(H’=2.49)and that near the apiary was the least diverse(H’=0.11).Only,two wild bee species,Hypotrigona *** Thrinchostoma petersi,persisted inside the plot nearby the apiary where honey bees were most *** furthest plots from the apiary seem to have the highest diversity of wild *** findings are very relevant because they can be used for the policies of conservation of wild bees and the management of beekeeping activities.
