Road life-cycle carbon dioxide emissions and emission reduction technologies:A review

Carbon dioxide(CO_(2))emissions from the road sector have attracted increasing attention in current *** paper attempted to provide a systematic review of the existing research efforts on road life-cycle CO_(2)emissions by analyzing the system’s boundary division,identifying the CO_(2)emission contributions of each life-cycle phase,listing major emission contributors,exploring related emission reduction technologies,and giving directions for future *** research showed that the road life cycle is usually divided into five phases:material production,construction,use,maintenance and end-of-life(EOL)*** use phase and the initial construction stage(including material production and construction phases)contributed the most CO_(2)emissions during the road life *** detail,the production of cement,asphalt and steel were the three main emission contributors in the material production *** pavement roughness,albedo,and concrete carbonation were the main factors affecting emissions in the use *** addition,emission reduction technologies such as using recycled materials and recycling techniques,lowering mixing temperature,and equipment energy substitution were commonly used to reduce emissions from material production and construction *** application of emerging technologies such as carbon capture and storage,carbon sink,and the use of hydrogen,solar and photovoltaic in the road sector may have emission reduction potentials and should be highlighted more in future studies.

Data-driven slicing for dimension reduction in regressions:A likelihood-ratio approach

To efficiently estimate the central subspace in sufficient dimension reduction,response discretization via slicing its range is one of the most used methodologies when inverse regression-based methods are ***,existing slicing schemes are almost all ad hoc and not widely ***,how to define datadriven schemes with certain optimal properties is a longstanding problem in this *** research described here is then ***,we introduce a likelihood-ratio-based framework for dimension reduction,subsuming the popularly used methods including the sliced inverse regression,the sliced average variance estimation and the likelihood acquired ***,we propose a regularized log likelihood-ratio criterion to obtain a data-driven slicing scheme and derive the asymptotic properties of the estimators.A simulation study is carried out to examine the performance of the proposed method and that of existing methods.A data set concerning concrete compressive strength is also analyzed for illustration and comparison.

Low levels of Bax inhibitor-1 gene expression increase tunicamycin-induced apoptosis in human neuroblastoma SY5Y cells

A human SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cell line with a low level of Bax inhibitor-1 expression was established by lentivirus-mediated RNA interference and fluorescence-activated cell sorting. In control SH-SY5Y cells, tunicamycin treatment induced endoplasmic reticulum stress-mediated apoptosis; however, after Bax inhibitor-1 gene knockdown, cell survival rates were significantly decreased and the degree of apoptosis was significantly increased following tunicamycin treatment In addition, chromatin condensation and apparent apoptotic phenomena, such as marginalization and cytoplasmic vesicles, were observed. Our findings indicate that Bax inhibitor-1 can delay apoptosis induced by endoplasmic reticulum stress.

With the increasing international consensus concerning the negative effects of climate change,reducing greenhouse gases has become a higher priority in government policies and research *** transportation sector generates approximately 29%of the total greenhouse gas emissions and 25%of the global energy related carbon dioxide(CO2)***,it is essential to understand the influencing factors of vehicle emissions and establish a corresponding evaluation model for the emission estimation of operating *** paper reviews different methods of measuring vehicle emissions,including laboratory measurements,on-road measurements,and tunnel ***,we summarize the factors affecting the emission evaluation of operating vehicles based on the vehicle operating features and road ***,the applications of vehicle emission evaluation models are analyzed,including the emission assessment of the vehicles operating at road segments and *** on this review,one can conclude that selecting different measurements will significantly impact the assessment of the vehicle emission results and the applicable scope of the *** the different influencing factors of the operating vehicle emissions will have an impact on the model application of the vehicle emission ***,several analysis methods for new technology vehicles can compensate for the potential lack in connectedness with the rapid development of new energy vehicle technology and the improvement of intelligent transportation systems(ITS).

Research on the big data of traditional taxi and online car-hailing:A systematic review

The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary of a quick overview of the latest developments and unprecedented opportunities for scholars who want to set foot in the field of traditional taxi and online car-hailing(TTOC).From the perspectives of peoples(e.g.,passenger,driver,and policymaker),vehicle,road,and environment,this paper describes the current research status of TTOC's big data in six hot topics,including the ridership factor,spatio-temporal distribution and travel behavior,cruising strategy and passenger service market partition,route planning,transportation emission and new-energy,and TTOC's data extensional *** topics were included in five mainstreams as follows:(1)abundant studies often focus only on determinant analysis on given transportation(taxi,transit,online car-hailing);the exploration of ridership patterns for a multimodal transportation mode is rare;furthermore,multiple aspects of factors were not considered synchronously in a wide time span;(2)travel behavior research mainly concentrates on the commuting trips and distribution patterns of various travel indices(e.g.,distance,displacement,time);(3)the taxi driver-searching strategy can be divided into autopsychic cruising and system dispatching;(4)the spatio-temporal distribution character of TTOC's fuel consumption(FC)and greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions has become a hotspot recently,and there has been a recommendation for electric taxi(ET)in urban cities to decrease transportation congestion is proposed;and(5)based on TTOC and point of interest(POI)multi-source data,many machine learning algorithms were used to predict travel condition indices,land use,and travel ***,the main bottlenecks and research directions that can be explored in the future are *** hope this result can provide an overview of current fundamental aspects of TTOC's utilization in the urban area.

Stable carbon isotope composition of monoterpanes in essential oils and crude oils

Twenty-five monoterpanes from six types of essential oils and hydrogenated turpentine oil have been identified and their stable carbon isotope composition *** in essential oils sourced from terrestrial higher plants display a δ13C value in the range of-34‰-26‰,and mostly between-29‰ and-27‰.The δ13C value of any single monoterpane is very consistent in different essential *** monoterpanes show closer isotope composition between-28.6‰ and-26.2‰,with an average value of-27.7‰.In contrast,the isotope composition of cyclic monoterpanes is more scattered with an average value of-28.6‰.Isotopic fractionation with 13C enrichment has been observed during both artificial and geological hydrogenation of monoterpenoids to monoterpanes,and this is more obvious for the acyclic *** addition to higher plants,acyclic monoterpane 2,6-dimethylheptane in crude oil can also be originated from other organic inputs.

Low-temperature NH_(3) abatement via selective oxidation over a supported copper catalyst with high Cu^(+) abundance

Selective catalytic NH_(3)-to-N_(2) oxidation(NH_(3)-SCO)is highly promising for abating NH_(3) emissions slipped from stationary flue gas after-treatment *** practical application,however,is limited by the non-availability of low-cost catalysts with high activity and N_(2) ***,using defect-rich nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes(NCNT-AW)as the support,we developed a highly active and durable copper-based NH_(3)-SCO catalyst with a high abundance of cuprous(Cu^(+))*** obtained Cu/NCNT-AW catalyst demonstrated outstanding activity with a T_(50)(*** temperature to reach 50% NH_(3) conversion)of 174℃ in the NH_(3)-SCO reaction,which outperformed not only the Cu catalyst supported on N-free O-functionalized CNTs(OCNTs)or NCNT with less surface defects,but also those most active Cu catalysts in open *** kinetics measurements and temperature-programmed surface reactions using NH_(3)as a probe molecule revealed that the NH_(3)-SCO reaction on Cu/NCNT-AW follows an internal selective catalytic reaction(i-SCR)route involving nitric oxide(NO)as a key *** to mechanistic investigations by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,Raman spectroscopy,and X-ray absorption spectroscopy,the superior NH_(3)-SCO performance of Cu/NCNT-AW originated from a synergy of surface defects and ***,surface defects promoted the anchoring of Cu O nanoparticles on N-containing sites and,thereby,enabled efficient electron transfer from N to Cu O,increasing significantly the fraction of SCR-active Cu^(+)sites in the *** study puts forward a new idea for manipulating and utilizing the interplay of defects and N-dopants on carbon surfaces to fabricate Cu^(+)-rich Cu catalysts for efficient abatement of slip NH_(3)emissions via selective oxidation.

A flexible multiscale algorithm based on an improved smoothed particle hydrodynamics method for complex viscoelastic flows

Viscoelastic flows play an important role in numerous engineering fields,and the multiscale algorithms for simulating viscoelastic flows have received significant attention in order to deepen our understanding of the nonlinear dynamic behaviors of viscoelastic fluids. However, traditional grid-based multiscale methods are confined to simple viscoelastic flows with short relaxation time, and there is a lack of uniform multiscale scheme available for coupling different solvers in the simulations of viscoelastic fluids. In this paper, a universal multiscale method coupling an improved smoothed particle hydrodynamics(SPH) and multiscale universal interface(MUI) library is presented for viscoelastic flows. The proposed multiscale method builds on an improved SPH method and leverages the MUI library to facilitate the exchange of information among different solvers in the overlapping domain. We test the capability and flexibility of the presented multiscale method to deal with complex viscoelastic flows by solving different multiscale problems of viscoelastic flows. In the first example, the simulation of a viscoelastic Poiseuille flow is carried out by two coupled improved SPH methods with different spatial resolutions. The effects of exchanging different physical quantities on the numerical results in both the upper and lower domains are also investigated as well as the absolute errors in the overlapping domain. In the second example, the complex Wannier flow with different Weissenberg numbers is further simulated by two improved SPH methods and coupling the improved SPH method and the dissipative particle dynamics(DPD) method. The numerical results show that the physical quantities for viscoelastic flows obtained by the presented multiscale method are in consistence with those obtained by a single solver in the overlapping domain. Moreover, transferring different physical quantities has an important effect on the numerical results.

A GC×GC-ToFMS Investigation of the Unresolved Complex Mixture and Associated Biomarkers in Biodegraded Petroleum

Heavy biodegraded crude oils have larger numbers of coeluting compounds than nonbiodegraded oils, and they are typically not resolved with conventional gas chromatography（GC）. This unresolved complex mixture（UCM） has been investigated using comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography–time-of-flight mass spectrometry（GC×GC-To FMS） within a set of biodegraded petroleums derived from distinct sedimentary basins, including northwestern Sichuan（Neoproterozoic, marine）, Tarim（Early Paleozoic, marine）, Bohai Bay（Eocene, saline/brackish） and Pearl River Mouth（Eocene, freshwater）. In general, the hydrocarbons that constitute the UCM in petroleum saturate fractions can be classified into three catalogues based on the distributions of resolved compounds on two dimensional chromatograms. Group 1 is composed mainly of normal and branched alkanes, isoprenoid alkanes and monocyclic alkanes; Group 2 comprises primarily terpanes ranging from two to five rings, and Group 3 is dominated by monoaromatic hydrocarbons such as tetralins and monoaromatic steranes. In addition, the UCM is source dependent and varies between oil populations. i.e., the UCM of petroleum derived from Precambrian and Early Paleozoic marine, Eocene saline/brackish and freshwater source rocks is specifically rich in higher homologues of A-norsteranes, series of 1,1,3-trimethyl-2-alkylcyclohexanes（carotenoid-derived alkanes）, and tetralin and indane compounds, respectively.

Study on sterols from brown algae (Sargassum muticum)

Various △5-3β-sterenols, whose carbon numbers range from C19―C23 to C26―C30 and some compounds have many stereomers maximal up to six, have been detected out from the extract of brown algae (Sargassum muticum), which means that steranes with lower carbon numbers are likely dif- ferent in the origin, and some corresponding sterol stereoisomers may have already existed in their precursor organisms. This provides some experi- mental evidence for supplementing and amending the traditional interpretation of the sterol stereoisomer transformation during the deposition and diagenesis of organic matter.
