Schisandra chinensis, a traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), has been used to treat sleep disorders. Zebrafish sleep/wake behavioral profiling provides a high-throughput platform to screen chemicals, but has never been used to study extracts and components from TCM. In the present study, the ethanol extract of Schisandra chinensis and its two main lignin components, schisandrin and schisandrin B, were studied in zebrafish. We found that the ethanol extract had bidirectional improvement in rest and activity in zebrafish. Schisandrin and schisandrin B were both sedative and active components. We predicted that schisandrin was related to serotonin pathway and the enthanol extract of Schisandra chinensis was related to seoronin and domapine pathways using a database of zebrafish behaviors. These predictions were confirmed in experiments using Caenorhabditis elegans. In conclusion, zebrafish behavior profiling could be used as a high-throughput platform to screen neuroactive effects and predict molecular pathways of extracts and components from TCM.

A series of substituted 2,3-diaryl-2-azabicyclo[2.2.2]octan-5-ones have been prepared by an efficient three-component aza-Diels-Alder cycloaddition reaction in water catalyzed by layered α-zirconium hydrogen phosphate （α-ZrP） and sodium calix[4]arene sulfonates bearing pendant short aliphatic chains. The 18 synthesized compounds were assayed for acetylcholinesterase inhibition using mouse acetvlcho]inesterase.

A novel,cheap and highly efficient Ni-Co/Mo_(2)C/Co_(6)Mo_(6)C_(2)@C nanocomposite has been successfully constructed through simple one-step carbonization method in a nitrogen *** in the precursor can effectively anchor molybdenum-based Keggin-type polyoxometallate and NiCo-layered double hydroxide through electrostatic and coordination interactions,which avoids the aggregation of catalyst particles during the pyrolysis *** optimization,the obtained Ni-Co/Mo_(2)C/Co_(6)Mo_(6)C_(2)@C possesses small size(3-8 nm),large specific surface area and hierarchical pore *** importantly,Ni-Co/Mo_(2)C/Co_(6)Mo_(6)C_(2)@C presents remarkable hydrogen evolution reaction activity with low overpotentials in 0.5 mol·L^(-1)H_(2)SO_(4)(102.3 mV)and 1 mol·L^(-1)KOH(95 mV)to afford the current density of 10 mA·cm^(-2),as well as small Tafel slopes of 82.49 and 99.92 mV·dec^(-1),***,this catalyst also shows outstanding stability for 12 h without a significant change in current *** excellent catalytic performance of Ni-Co/Mo_(2)C/Co_(6)Mo_(6)C_(2)@C can put down to the synergistic effect between multiple components and the small size of the *** work provides unique insights into the preparation of efficient transition metal-based catalysts for HER.

The study focused on the effects of the interaction between axial and radial secondary air and the reductive intensity in reduction region on combustion characteristics and NO_(x) emission in a 30 kW preheating combustion *** results revealed that the interaction and reductive intensity influenced the combustion in the down-fired combustor(DFC) and NO_(x) emission *** the temperature distribution,the interaction caused the position of the main combustion region to shift down as R_(2-12)(ratio of axial secondary air flow to radial secondary air flow) decreased or λ_(2)(total secondary air ratio) increased,and there was the interplay between both of their *** R_(3-12)(ratio of first-staged tertiary air flow to second-staged tertiary air flow)increased,the decrease in the reductive intensity also caused the above phenomenon,and the peak temperature increased in this *** the NO_(x) emission,the interaction affected the NO_(x) reduction adversely when λ_(2) or R_(2-12) was higher,and the range of this effect was larger,so that the NO_x emission increased obviously as they *** decrease in the reductive intensity caused the NO_(x) emission increased under the homogeneous reduction mechanism,while was unchanged at a high level under the heterogeneous reduction *** the combustion efficiency,the interaction improved the combustion efficiency as λ_(2) increased when R_(2-12) was lower,while reduced it as λ_(2) increased excessively when R_(2-12) was *** proper decrease in the reductive intensity caused the combustion efficiency increased obviously,while was hardly improved further when the intensity decreased *** this study,the lowest NO_(x) emission was only 41.75 mg/m^(3) without sacrificing the combustion efficiency by optimizing the interaction and reductive intensity.

The effect of temperature-responsive solution behavior of PNIPAM-b-PPEOMA-b-PNIPAM on its inclusion complexation with α-cyclodextrin was studied. The triblock polymer was prepared by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer （RAFT） polymerization and formed inclusion complexes （ICs） after selective threading of the PEO segment of the triblock polymer through the cavities of α-CD units. For comparison, PPEOMA homopolymer was prepared and the inclusion complexation with α-CD was also studied. The ICs were prepared with a-CD when the polymer was in different conformations by changing the temperature, and the formed ICs were characterized by XRD, ^1H-NMR, TGA and DSC. The solutions of the ICs show temperature-responsive clear/turbid transition or fluidic emulsion/gel transition depending on the concentration of the α-CD added, and the stoichiometry determined by ^1H-NMR and TGA indicates that the stoichiometry of EO to α-CD of the resulted ICs increases with increasing of temperature.

Fluid dynamics of a self-propelled biomimetic underwater vehicle(BUV)with pectoral fins is investigated by an immersed boundary(IB)***,the BUV with a pair of pectoral fins starts from rest and attains a constant mean velocity as the mean longitudinal force is *** capability and accuracy of the IB method to deal with the interaction between the fluid and complex moving body are firstly *** we carry out a parametric study to understand the effect of key governing parameters on the dynamic response of the *** is found that with the increase of motion frequency or rolling amplitude,the pectoral fin propulsors can induce larger forward velocity so that the BUV takes less time to attain its stable periodic swimming *** the pectoral fin is a very complicated lifting surface,a linear relationship between forward Reynolds number(final swimming velocity is used as velocity scale)and frequency Reynolds number(product of motion frequency and fin chord length is used as velocity scale)can be established when the frequency Reynolds number is above a critical value.A linear relationship between forward Reynolds number and rolling amplitude is also found within the studied range of rolling ***,a small-density-ratio BUV is sensitive to the surrounding flow with more rapid evolution process of ***,BUV with a large density ratio is more *** implications of the hydrodynamic analysis on the bio-inspired engineering design of BUV with pectoral fins are also discussed.

As a clean energy technology to combat the global energy dilemma and the environmental problems, thermoelectrics that enable a direct conversion between heat and electricity have attracted increasing attention in recent decades. This solid-state, vibrationless technology has long been used for powering the spacecrafts of several deep-space missions and has limited commercial use in niche market, but these are now actively considered for a variety of new applications, such as the conversion of automobile exhaust heat into electricity. Meanwhile, materials research flourishes with the knowledge that significantly improves the thermoelectric efficiency for even more applications. This motivates Rare Metals to have a special issue focusing on thermoelectrics.

End-to-end delay is one of the most important characteristics of Internet end-to-end packet dynamics, which can be applied to quality of services （OoS） management, service level agreement （SLA） management, congestion control algorithm development, etc. Nonstationarity and nonlinearity are found by the analysis of various delay series measured from different links. The fact that different types of links have different degree of Self-Similarity is also obtained. By constructing appropriate network architecture and neural functions, functional networks can be used to model the Internet end-to-end nonlinear delay time series. Furthermore, by using adaptive parameter studying algorithm, the nonstationarity can also be well modeled. The numerical results show that the provided functional network architecture and adaptive algorithm can precisely characterize the Internet end-to-end delay dynamics.

Wind energy has been widely utilized to alleviate the shortage of fossil *** wind power is integrated into the power grid on a large scale,the power grid’s stability is severely harmed due to the fluctuating and intermittent properties of wind *** wind power forecasts help to formulate good operational strategies for wind farms.A short-term wind power forecasting method based on new hybrid model is proposed to increase the accuracy of wind power ***,wind power time series are separated using the complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise method to obtain multiple components,which are then predicted using a support vector regression machine model optimized through using the grid search and cross validation(GridSearchCV)***,a residual modification model based on temporal convolutional network is constructed,and variables with high correlation are selected as the input features of the model to predict the residuals of wind ***,the prediction accuracy of the proposed method is compared to other models using the actual wind power data of the wind farm to demonstrate the validity of the described method,and the results reveal that the proposed method has better prediction performance.
