Pomegranate leaf attenuates lipid absorption in the small intestine in hyperlipidemic mice by inhibiting lipase activity

Pomegranate leaf(PGL)has a definite role in regulating lipid ***,pharmacokinetic results show the main active ingredient,ellagic acid,in PGL has lower oral bioavailability,suggesting that the lipid-lowering effect of PGL may act through inhibiting lipid absorption in the small *** results demonstrated that pomegranate leaf and its main active ingredients(i.e.,ellagic acid,gallic acid,pyrogallic acid and tannic acid)were capable of inhibiting pancreatic lipase activity in *** computational molecular docking,the four ingredients had good affinity for pancreatic *** lipid overload experiments showed that a large dosage of PGL significantly reduced serum total cholesterol(TG)and triglycerides(TC)levels in addition to inhibiting intestinal lipase activity,which demonstrated that PGL could inhibit lipase activity and reduce the absorption of *** also found that PGL could reverse the reduced tight-junction protein expression due to intestinal lipid overload,promote Occludin and Claudin4 expression in the small intestine,and enhance the intestinal mucosal *** conclusion,we demonstrated that PGL can inhibit lipid absorption and reduce blood TG and TC by targeting pancreatic lipase,promoting tight-junction protein expression and thereby preventing intestinal mucosa damage from an overload of lipids in the intestine.

Homologous Comparisons of Photosynthetic System I Genes among Cyanobacteria and Chloroplasts

It has now believed that chloroplasts arose from cyanobacteria, however, during endosymbiosis, the photosynthetic genes in chloroplasts have been reduced. How these changes occurred during plant evolution was the focus of the present study. Beginning with photosystem I （PSI） genes, a homologous comparison of amino acid sequences of 18 subunits of PSI from 10 species of cyanobacteria, chloroplasts in 12 species of eucaryotic algae, and 28 species of plants （including bryophytes, pteridophytes, gymnospermae, dicotyledon and monocotyledon） was undertaken. The data showed that 18 genes of PSI can be divided into two groups： Part Ⅰ including seven genes （psaA, psaB, psaC, psal, psaJ, ycf3 and ycf4） shared both by cyanobacteria and plant chloroplasts; Part Ⅱ containing another 11 genes （psaD, psaE, psaF, psaK, psaL, psaM, btpA, ycf37, psaG, psaH and psaN） appeared to have diversified in different plant groups. Among Part Ⅰ genes, psaC, psaA and psaB had higher homology in all species of cyanobacteria and chloroplasts. Among Part Ⅱ genes, only psaG, psaH and psaN emerged in seed plants.

Study on time-varying seismic vulnerability and analysis of ECC-RC composite piers using high strength reinforcement bars in offshore environment

As the main seismic component of a bridge,seismic damage to the bridge pier has a greater effect on its subsequent *** the offshore chloride environment,the issues(e.g.,reinforcement bar corrosion and attenuation of concrete strength)of piers caused by chloride ion seriously curtail the normal service life and deteriorate the anti-seismic property of bridge *** engineered cementitious composite(ECC)-reinforced concrete(RC)composite pier with high strength reinforcement bars(HSRB)is expected to solve the above *** study aims to clarify the time-varying seismic vulnerability(SV)of the HSRBECC-RC composite pier during its full life cycle(FLC).Based on OpenSees,the refined finite element analysis models of RC pier,ECC-RC composite pier,and HSRBECC-RC composite pier have been ***,using the nonlinear time-path dynamic analysis method,the influence of chloride ion erosion on the time-dependent seismic vulnerability(SV)of these different piers in different service life and different peak ground acceleration(PGA)were analyzed from a dynamic point of *** research shows that the exceeding probability(EP)of the same damage level increases with the enhancement of service time and PGA and with the increase of destruction,the exceeding probability(EP)of slight damage(DL-1),moderate damage(DL-2),serious damage(DL-3),and complete collapse(DL-4)decreases in turn;the corrosion degree of chloride ion to piers is small during the early service period,the time-varying vulnerability curve of the bridge piers is almost the same as that of a new bridge,and during later service,as the extent of chloride ion corrosion deepens,exceeding probability(EP)under severe damage(DL-3)and complete collapse(DL-4)is increased,and the seismic performance is significantly enhanced.

DIAGNOSIS AND MANAGEMENT OF ISOLATED PANCREATIC TUBERCULOSIS: EXPERIENCE OF 13 CASES

Objective To analyze the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic tuberculosis. Methods Retrospectively reviewed and summarized 13 pancreatic tuberculosis patients＇ clinical information, presentation, diagnostic methods, therapeutic approaches, and prognosis from 1958 to 2004 at Peking Union Medical College Hospital. Resuits All cases presented a wide series of symptoms, including fever in 6 cases, upper abdominal tenderness in 13, epigastric mass in 4, obstructive jaundice in 3, night sweat in 4, weight loss in 7, hypersplenoa＇ophy and hypersplenism in 1, and being complicated with tuberculosis of other organs in 3. One case was diagnosed by clinical symptoms and biopsy of lymph node, and only received anti-tubercular treatment. Others were diagnosed by intra-operative biopsy and anti-tubercular treatment, and got well without recurrent tuberculosis in pancreas and other organs during 6 months to 2 years of follow-up. The non-operative case presented extrahepatic portal hypertension. Conclusions Pancreatic tuberculosis may be considered in the patients with fever, abdominal tenderness, weight loss, and imaging evidence of regional pancreatic lesion. Efficacy of anti-tubercular agents and laparotomy for pancreatic tuberculosis is evident.

Both structure and interface engineering are highly effective strategies for enhancing the catalytic activity and selectivity of precious metal *** this work,we develop a facile pyrolysis strategy to synthesize the high-quality holey platinum nanotubes(Pt-H-NTs)using nanorods-like Pt^(Ⅱ)-phenanthroline(PT)coordination compound as self-template and self-reduction ***,an up-bottom strategy is used to further synthesize polyallylamine(PA)modified Pt-H-NTs(Pt-HNTs@PA).PA modification sharply promotes the catalytic activity of Pt-H-NTs for the formic acid electrooxidation reaction(FAEOR)by the direct reaction ***,PA modification also elevates the catalytic activity of Pt-H-NTs for the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)by the proton enrichment at electrolyte/electrode *** from the high catalytic activity of Pt-H-NTs@PA for both FAEOR and HER,a two-electrode FAEOR boosted water electrolysis system is fabricated by using Pt-H-NTs@PA as bifunctio nal *** FAEOR boosted water electrolysis system only requires the operational voltage of 0.47 V to achieve the high-purity hydrogen production,showing an energy-saving hydrogen production strategy compared to traditional water electrolysis system.

As a positive-sense single-strand RNA virus,coronavirus(CoV)possesses some of the largest genomes among RNA viruses,∼30 Kb in size and encodes more than two-dozen proteins that ensure a long-lasting parasitic cellular life leveraging on both informational inheritability and operational integrity by constantly changing the underlying molecular constituents toward harmony with those of the hosts whose genomes harbor over 20,000 genes and 2–3 Gb in ***,taking the advantage of the unprecedented accumulation of genomic sequences,interrogate mutation spectra of SARS-CoV-2 as a whole or of the major clades in details using comprehensive genomic tools and structure chemistry principles.

Adaptive fuze-warhead coordination method based on BP artificial neural network

The appropriate fuze-warhead coordination method is important to improve the damage efficiency of air defense missiles against aircraft targets. In this paper, an adaptive fuze-warhead coordination method based on the Back Propagation Artificial Neural Network(BP-ANN) is proposed, which uses the parameters of missile-target intersection to adaptively calculate the initiation delay. The damage probabilities at different radial locations along the same shot line of a given intersection situation are calculated, so as to determine the optimal detonation position. On this basis, the BP-ANN model is used to describe the complex and highly nonlinear relationship between different intersection parameters and the corresponding optimal detonating point position. In the actual terminal engagement process, the fuze initiation delay is quickly determined by the constructed BP-ANN model combined with the missiletarget intersection parameters. The method is validated in the case of the single-shot damage probability evaluation. Comparing with other fuze-warhead coordination methods, the proposed method can produce higher single-shot damage probability under various intersection conditions, while the fuzewarhead coordination effect is less influenced by the location of the aim point.

Highly efficient preparation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural from sucrose using ionic liquids and heteropolyacid catalysts in dimethyl sulfoxide–water mixed solvent

Several types of ILs and solid acids were used as catalysts in one-pot conversion of sucrose to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural（abbreviated as 5-HMF） in a dimethyl sulfoxide（DMSO）/water mixed solvent under hydrothermal conditions. A remarkable 5-HMF yield of 91.8% was achieved catalyzed by the cesium salt of dodecatungstophosphoric acid（Cs（2.3）H（0.7）PW（12）O（40）） within 3 h at 180 C. The ionic liquid N-methylimidazolium hydrogen sulfate（[Hmim][HSO4]） gave the 5-HMF in 82.0% yield from sucrose. To the best of our knowledge, it was almost the highest yield of HMF from sucrose by now. Various reaction parameters including reaction temperature and time and catalyst dosage were optimized. A possible mechanism for this catalytic process was proposed. Furthermore, fructose and glucose were also investigated, good yields of 5-HMF was obtained respectively. This increases the possibility of large-scale production of 5-HMF from carbohydrates.
