From a perspective of Chinese medicine （CM）, persons with unregulated ＂unhealthy＂ body constitution （BC） will further develop chronic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus （DM）. Conventional dietary therapy with nutrition component has its limitations in the regulation of ＂unhealthy＂ BC. However, empirical evidence supports that ＂unhealthy＂ BC can be regulated with food natures and flavors from a perspective of CM. Presentations of ＂unhealthy＂ BC types, such as Yin-deficiency, Yang-deficiency and Yin-Yangdeficiency were found in persons with DM. It would be necessary to regulate the ＂unhealthy＂ BC presentations with integration of conventional dietary therapy and Chinese food therapy. The ultimate goal is to either stabilize glycaemic control or prevent the development of other chronic diseases leading to reduction of disease burden, such as disease-related poor quality of life, stress of healthcare professionals and the rising of healthcare cost.

The worldwide slum population currently stands at over one billion,with substantial growth expected in the coming ***,slums have been mapped using information derived mainly from either physical indicators using remote sensing data,or socio-economic indicators using census *** data source on its own provides only a partial view of slums,an issue further compounded by data poverty in less-developed *** overcome such issues,this paper explores the fusion of traditional with emerging open data sources and data mining tools to identify additional indicators that can be used to detect and map the presence of slums,map their footprint,and map their *** this goal,we develop an indicator database for slums using open sources of physical and socio-economic data that can be used to characterize slum *** this database,we then leverage data mining techniques to identify the most suitable combination of these indicators for mapping *** three cities in Kenya as test cases,results show that the fusion of these data can improve the mapping accuracy of *** results suggest that the proposed approach can provide a viable solution to the emerging challenge of monitoring the growth of slums.

Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Identification in Polyploids： A Review, Example, and Recommendations

Understanding the relationship between genotype and phenotype is a major biological question and being able to predict phenotypes based on molecular genotypes is integral to molecular breeding. Whole- genome duplications have shaped the history of all flowering plants and present challenges to elucidating the relationship between genotype and phenotype, especially in neopolyploid species. Although single nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs） have become popular tools for genetic mapping, discovery and appli- cation of SNPs in polyploids has been difficult. Here, we summarize common experimental approaches to SNP calling, highlighting recent polyploid successes. To examine the impact of software choice on these analyses, we called SNPs among five peanut genotypes using different alignment programs （BWA-mem and Bowtie 2） and variant callers （SAMtools, GATK, and Freebayes）. Alignments produced by Bowtie 2 and BWA-mem and analyzed in SAMtools shared 24.5% concordant SNPs, and SAMtools, GATK, and Freebayes shared 1.4% concordant SNPs. A subsequent analysis of simulated Brassica napus chromosome 1A and 1C genotypes demonstrated that, of the three software programs, SAMtools performed with the highest sensitivity and specificity on Bowtie 2 alignments. These results, however, are likely to vary among species, and we therefore propose a series of best practices for SNP calling in polyploids.

Nowadays,several noninvasive neuroimaging techniques,including transcranial magnetic stimulation(TMS),*** working mechanism behind TMS is a rapidly changing magnetic field that generates an electric current via electromagnetic *** the coil is placed on the scalp,the magnetic field generates a physiological reaction in the underlying neural *** TMS-induced change in the participant’s behavior is used by researchers to investigate the causal relations between specific brain areas and cognitive functions such as language.A variant of TMS has been developed,which is called rapid-rate TMS(rTMS).In this review,three databases(Medline,Educational Resources Information Center,and Scopus)were searched for rTMS studies on normal reading and dyslexia with a cut-off date of October 31,*** was found to be a valuable tool for investigating questions related to reading research,both on the word and the sentence ***,it can be successfully used in research on ***,(high-frequency)rTMS has been used as a“clinical”intervention technique for treating dyslexia and for improving reading performance by exciting underactive reading pathways in the ***,we end the paper with a discussion of future directions in the field of rTMS research and dyslexia,for instance,the promising prospect of combining TMS with simultaneous electroencephalographic imaging.

Oxidation behavior and lifetime prediction of three commercial alloys used in power plants at 550 ℃ in CO2 environment

The oxidation behaviors of CrMoV, F91, and 310S alloys in CO2 at 550 °C for up to 1000 h were studied by weight change measurements, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman microscopy, optical microscopy, and glow dis-charge optical emission spectroscopy. 310S showed the best oxidation resistance followed by F91 and then CrMoV. Both CrMoV and F91 formed a duplex oxide layer, consisted of Fe2O3, Fe3O4, and Fe-Cr spinel, while 310S formed NiFe2O4 spinel and Cr2O3. Carburization was only observed in F91 and 310S alloys. The rates of metal loss were evaluated for long-term applications in power plants.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of chronic schizophrenia and co-morbid sleep ***: A 42-year-old German male outpatient,suffering from long-term schizophrenia and sleep disorders, entered the study. Acupuncture was used as a non-pharmacological intervention. In addition to his ongoing Western Medicine(pharmacological) treatment, the patient received 12 weekly(non-standardized) acupuncture treatments in the clinic. The Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) diagnosis, the psychological assessment and the actiwatch data were compared before and after the acupuncture ***: The TCM diagnosis revealed a Liver Fire pattern before the acupuncture treatment, which was still present, although to a lesser degree, after the treatment. The psychological assessment revealed no change in the positive symptoms, but a small decrease in the negative symptoms and the general psychopathology of the patient. This was further illustrated by the small decrease in the number of depressive symptoms. The subjective sleep disorders improved markedly after acupuncture treatment, but the daytime sleepiness did not. The actiwatch results showed that after acupuncture treatment, the patient was moving less during sleep, but no significant results were found for the other sleep ***: Acupuncture was found to be an effective non-pharmacological add-on method for treating subjective sleep disorders, and, to a lesser degree, objective sleep disorders and the negative symptoms of chronic schizophrenia. Future larger clinical trials with follow-up measurements are needed in order to replicate the present preliminary beneficial acupuncture findings and in order to determine whether the observed effects can be sustained.

BACKGROUND： In patients with depression, as well as in patients with schizophrenia, both mood and working memory performance are often impaired. Both issues can only be addressed and improved with medication to some extent. OBJECTIVE： This study investigates the mood and the working memory performance in patients with depression or schizophrenia and whether acupuncture can improve these. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS AND INTERVENTIONS： A pragmatic clinical trial design was used The study was conducted in a psychiatric clinic. Fifty patients with depression and 50 with schizophrenia were randomly divided into an experimental and a waiting-list group. Additionally, 25 healthy control participants were included. Twelve weeks of individualized acupuncture treatment was used as the clinical intervention. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： All patients were tested before （T1） and after （T2） acupuncture treatment on a mood scale （Beck Depression Inventory-II, BDI-II）, a simple working memory task （digit span）, and a complex working memory task （letter-number sequencing）; the healthy controls were tested at T1 only. RESULTS： Patients with depression scored worse than the others on the BDI-II, and patients with schizophrenia scored worse than the healthy controls. On the digit span, patients with schizophrenia did not differ from healthy controls whereas they scored worse of all on the letter-number sequencing. With respect to the acupuncture findings, first, the present study showed that the use of acupuncture to treat patients with schizophrenia was both practical and safe. Moreover, acupuncture had a positive effect on the BDI-II for the depression group, but acupuncture had no effect on the digit span and on the letter- number sequencing performance for the two clinical groups.
