Improvement potential of today＇s WEEE recycling performance： The case of LCD TVs in Belgium

Waste of electrical and electronic equipment （WEEE） constitutes one of the most relevant waste streams because of the quantity and presence of valuable materials. However, there is limited knowledge on the resource potential of urban mining WEEE, as data on material composition, and the efficiency of current recycling treatments are still scarce. In this article, an evaluationof the recycling performance at a national level for one of the fastest growing e-waste streams： LCD TVs is carried out through the following four steps. Firstly, material characterisation is performed by means of sampling of the waste stream. Secondly, a material flow analysis is conducted by evaluating the separation performance of a recycling plant in Belgium..Thirdly, the recovered economic value and avoided environmental impact （EI） of the analysed recycling system is assessed. Finally, the potential of urban mining for Belgium is forecasted. The analysis shows that while recycling performance for ferrous metals and aluminium are relatively high; there is substantial room to better close the material loops for precious metals （PM） and plastics. PMs and plastics account for 66 % of the economic value in LCD TVs and 57% of the El. With the current, commonly applied recycling technology only one-third of the PM and housing plastics are recycled; meaning that for＇these material＇s, at a national level for Belgium, there is a potential for improvement that represents 3.3 million euros in 2016 and 6.8 million euros in 2025.

Gallium bismuth halide GaBi-X2 （X = I, Br, CI） monolayers with distorted hexagonal framework： Novel room- temperature quantum spin Hall insulators

Quantum spin Hall （QSH） insulators with a large topologically nontrivial bulk gap are crucial for future applications of the QSH effect. Among these, group III-V monolayers and their halides, which have a chair structure （regular hexagonal framework）, have been widely studied. Using first-principles calculations, we formulate a new structure model for the functionalized group III-V monolayers, which consist of rectangular GaBi-X2 （X = I, Br, C1） monolayers with a distorted hexagonal framework （DHF）. These structures have a far lower energy than the GaBi-X2 monolayers with a chair structure. remarkably, the DHF GaBi-X2 monolayers are all QSH insulators, which exhibit sizeable nontrivial band gaps ranging from 0.17 to 0.39 eV. The band gaps can be widely tuned by applying different spin-orbit coupling strengths, resulting in a distorted Dirac cone.

Plants need to respond quickly and appropriately to various types of light signals from the environment to optimize growth and development. The immediate response to shading, reduced photon flux （low light）, and changes in spectral quality involves changes in gene regulation. In the case of more persistent shade, the plant shows a dramatic change in the organization of chromatin. Both plant responses are controlled via photoreceptor signaling proteins. re- cently, several studies have revealed similar features of chromatin reorganization in response to various abiotic and biotic signals, while others have unveiled intricate molecular networks of light signaling towards gene regulation. This opinion paper briefly describes the chromatin （de）compaction response from a light-signaling perspective to provide a link be- tween chromatin and the molecular network of photoreceptors and E3 ubiquitin ligase complexes.

Digestive oncologist in the gastroenterology training curriculum

Until the late 1980s, gastroenterology (GE) was considered a subspecialty of Internal Medicine. Today, GE also incorporates Hepatology. However, Digestive Oncology training is poorly defined in the Hepatogastroenterology (HGE)-curriculum. Therefore, a Digestive Oncology curriculum should be developed and this document might be a starting point for such a curriculum. HGE-specialists are increasingly resisting the paradigm in which they play only a diagnostic and technical role in the management of digestive tumors. We suggest minimum endpoints in the standard HGE-curriculum for oncology, and recommend a focus year in the Netherlands for Digestive Oncology in the HGE-curriculum. To produce welltrained digestive oncologists, an advanced Digestive Oncology training program with specific qualifications in Digestive Oncology (2 years) has been developed. The schedule in Belgium includes a period of at least 6 mo to be spent in a medical oncology department. The goal ofthese programs remains the production of well-trained digestive oncologists. HGE specialists are part of the multidisciplinary oncological teams, and some have been administering chemotherapy in their countries for years. In this article, we provide a road map for the organization of a proper training in Digestive Oncology. We hope that the World Gastroenterology Organisation and other (inter)national societies will support the necessary certifications for this specific training in the HGE-curriculum.

Perihepatic adhesions: An unusual complication of hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes and low platelet syndrome

We present a case of symptomatic perihepatic adhesions,which developed after a pregnancy complicated by hemolysis,elevated liver enzymes and low platelet(HELLP)syndrome,in which a subcapsular liver hematoma *** patient presented with complaints of persistent,severe right-sided upper abdominal *** complaints developed gradually,one year after a pregnancy that had been complicated by HELLP syndrome with a subcapsular liver *** hematoma had resolved *** upperabdominal magnetic resonance imaging revealed a density between liver and diaphragm at the site of the former subcapsular hematoma,suspect of perihepatic *** presence of perihepatic adhesions was confirmed during a laparoscopy and treated by adhesiolysis in the same *** adhesions may have developed in response to the degradation process of the subcapsular liver hematoma during conservative *** case of perihepatic adhesions may therefor be the first presentation of a long term sequel of subcapsular liver hematoma in HELLP syndrome.

Comparison of Diaton transpalpebral tonometer with applanation tonometry in keratoconus

AIM： To Investigate the added value of using a Diaton transpalpebral tonometer （DT） to measure lOP in keretoconus. Most type of tonometers use corneal applanation or biomechanical resistance to measure intraocular pressure （lOP）; however, these factors can be altered by keratoconus. Specifically, we examined whether DT can detect false-negative low Goldmann applanation tonometry （AT） measurements. METHODS： Patients with keratoconus were recruited from our tertiary academic treatment center. Measurements included AT and DT （in random order） and Scheimpflug imaging. An age- and gender-matched group of control subjects with no history of corneal disease or glaucoma was also recruited. rESULTS： In total, 130 eyes from 66 participants were assessed. In the keratoconus group, mean AT was 11.0± 2.6, mean DT 11±5.5 （P =0.729）and the two measures were correlated significantly（P=0.006, r=0.323）. However, a Bland-Altman plot revealed a wide distribution and poor agreement between both measurements. Previous corneal crosslinking, corneal pachymetry, and Krumeich classification had no effect on measured IOP. CONCLUSION： Measurements obtained using a Diaton tonometer are not affected by corneal biomechanics; however, its poor agreement with Goldmann AT values calls into question the added value of using a Diaton tonometer to measure lOP in keratoconus.

Electronic properties of 2H-stacking bilayer MoS_(2)measured by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy

Bilayer (BL) molybdenum disulfide (MoS_(2)) is one of the most important electronic structures not only in valleytronics but also in realizing twistronic systems on the basis of the topological mosaics in moiré superlattices. In this work, BL MoS_(2) on sapphire substrate with 2H-stacking structure is fabricated. We apply the terahertz (THz) time-domain spectroscopy (TDS) for examining the basic optoelectronic properties of this kind of BL MoS_(2). The optical conductivity of BL MoS_(2) is obtained in temperature regime from 80 K to 280 K. Through fitting the experimental data with the theoretical formula, the key sample parameters of BL MoS_(2) can be determined, such as the electron density, the electronic relaxation time and the electronic localization factor. The temperature dependence of these parameters is examined and analyzed. We find that, similar to monolayer (ML) MoS_(2), BL MoS_(2) with 2H-stacking can respond strongly to THz radiation field and show semiconductor-like optoelectronic features. The theoretical calculations using density functional theory (DFT) can help us to further understand why the THz optoelectronic properties of BL MoS_(2) differ from those observed for ML MoS_(2). The results obtained from this study indicate that the THz TDS can be applied suitably to study the optoelectronic properties of BL MoS_(2) based twistronic systems for novel applications as optical and optoelectronic materials and devices.

AIM: To examine the expression of E-cadherin, β-catenin,γ-catenin, VEGF, and p53 in 39 patients with hepatic metastasis from colorectal cancer ***: The patients were divided into two groups:those (n = 16) who had no chemotherapy for at least 6 mo before the liver resections and those (n = 23)who were treated with chemotherapy before liver resections.
