The detection of genes that show similar profiles under different experimental conditions is often an initial step in inferring the biological significance of such genes. Visualization tools are used to identify genes with similar profiles in microarray studies. Given the large number of genes recorded in microarray experiments, gene expression data are generally displayed on a low dimensional plot, based on linear methods. However, microarray data show nonlinearity, due to high-order terms of interaction between genes, so alternative approaches, such as kernel methods, may be more appropriate. We introduce a technique that combines kernel principal component analysis （KPcA） and Biplot to visualize gene expression profiles. Our approach relies on the singular value decomposition of the input matrix and incorporates an additional step that involves KPcA. The main properties of our method are the extraction of nonlinear features and the preservation of the input variables （genes） in the output display. We apply this algorithm to colon tumor, leukemia and lymphoma datasets. Our approach reveals the underlying structure of the gene expression profiles and provides a more intuitive understanding of the gene and sample association.

Beacon-Less Geographic Routing in Real Wireless Sensor Networks

Geographic Routing （GR） algorithms require nodes to periodically transmit HELLO messages to allow neighbors to know their positions （beaconing mechanism）. Beacon-less routing algorithms have recently been proposed to reduce the control overheads due to these messages. However, existing beacon-less algorithms have not considered realistic physical layers. Therefore, those algorithms cannot work properly in realistic scenarios. In this paper we present a new beacon-less routing protocol called BOSS. Its design is based on the conclusions of our open-field experiments using Tmote-sky sensors. BOSS is adapted to error-prone networks and incorporates a new mechanism to reduce collisions and duplicate messages produced during the selection of the next forwarder node. We compare BOSS with Beacon-Less Routing （BLR） and contention-Based Forwarding （cBF） algorithms through extensive simulations. The results show that our scheme is able to *** almost perfect packet delivery ratio （like BLR） while having a low bandwidth consumption （even lower than cBF）. Additionally, we carried out an empirical evaluation in a real testbed that shows the correctness of our simulation results.

The main purpose of this paper is to implement a system capable of detecting faults in railway point mechanisms. This is achieved by developing an algorithm that takes advantage of three empirical criteria simultaneously capable of detecting faults from records of measurements of force against time. The system is dynamic in several respects： the base reference data is computed using all the curves free from faults as they are encountered in the experimental data; the algorithm that uses the three criteria simultaneously may be applied in on-line situations as each new data point becomes available; and recursive algorithms are applied to filter noise from the raw data in an automatic way. Encouraging results are found in practice when the system is applied to a number of experiments carried out by an industrial sponsor.

A degradative solvent extraction method for upgrading low-rank coal was performed at 200-350◦c for 90 min to obtain a substance dissolved in the solvent at room temperature(Soluble).Because the resulting mixture exhibited a high carbon content without ash,it could be readily used as a ***,deep eutectic solvents(DESs)have attracted attention for improving the Soluble yield and decreasing the oxygen content in *** is known to cleave oxygen-containing functional groups in biomass and is considered effective for deoxidizing low-rank ***,DES was prepared by mixing choline chloride,Fecl3⋅6H2O,and Adaro subbituminous coal(AD)and then added to 1-methylnaphthalene(1-MN)in a non-polar solvent,followed by degradative solvent extraction in the range of 200-350◦*** effects of reaction temperature and added DES amount on the product yield and the composition were *** the reaction temperature and amount of DES added increased,the Soluble yield and carbon content *** was also found that the thermal decomposition temperature and oxygen content decreased with the increasing DES *** decrease indicates that DES promotes the deoxygenation and decomposition of AD and increases the soluble yield of the fuel source.
