Urbanization has dramatic impacts on natural habitats and such changes may potentially drive local adaptation of urban *** change has been specifically shown to facilitate the fast adaptation of birds to changing environments,but few studies have investigated the genetic mechanisms of this *** investigations could provide insights into questions about both evolutionary theory and management of urban *** this study,we investigated whether local adaptation has occurred in urban populations of a Neotropical bird species,Coereba flaveola,specifically addressing whether observed behavioral adaptations are correlated to genetic signatures of natural *** answer this question,we sampled 24 individuals in urban and rural environments,and searched for selected loci through a genome-scan approach based on RADseq genomic data,generated and assembled using a reference genome for the *** recovered 46 loci as putative selection outliers,and 30 of them were identified as associated with biological processes possibly related to urban adaptation,such as the regulation of energetic metabolism,regulation of genetic expression,and changes in the immunological ***,genes involved in the development of the nervous system showed signatures of selection,suggesting a link between behavioral and genetic *** findings,in conjunction with similar results in previous studies,support the idea that cities provide a similar selective pressure on urban populations and that behavioral plasticity may be enhanced through genetic changes in urban populations.

Aim： To investigate if interleukin-6 （IL-6）, interleukin-8 （IL-8）, interleukin- 10 （IL-10）, interferon-gamma （IFN-γ） or tumor necrosis factor-alpha （TNF-α） are able to stimulate the level of lipid peroxidation of sperm membranes, either alone or in the presence of leukocytes. Methods： Semen samples from normozoospermic donors were prepared by density gradient. The sperms were exposed to the indicated cytokines, at physiological and infection-inflammation concentrations, in the absence or presence of leukocytes. Lipid peroxidation of the sperm membranes was determined by measuring malondialdehyde （MDA） and 4-hydroxialkenals （HAE） formation. Results： TNF-α, IL-8 and IFN-γ increased the level of sperm membrane lipid peroxidation when tested at physiological concentrations. At infectioninflammation concentrations, only IL-8 was able to produce a higher effect. When assayed in the presence of leucocytes, IL-8 and TNF-α showed a higher effect at infection-inflammation concentrations than at physiological concentrations. Finally, IL-8 showed a higher effect in the presence of leukocytes than in their absence at both physiological and infection-inflammation concentrations. TNF-α also showed a higher effect when assayed in the presence of leuko- cytes than in their absence, but only at infection-inflammation concentrations. There was no effect of IL-6 or IL-10 in any of the tested conditions. Conclusion： Several pro-inflammatory cytokines at physiological concentrations increase the level of lipid peroxidation of sperm membranes, which could be important for the sperm fecundation process. However, infection-inflammation concentrations of some cytokines, such as IL-8 and TNF-α, either alone or in the presence of leukocytes, could drive the lipid peroxidation of the spermatozoa plasma membrane to levels that can affect the sperm fertility capacity.

Algal blooms are a frequent subject in scientific discussions and are the focus of many recent studies,mainly due to their adverse effect on *** the lack of ground truth data and the need to develop tools for their detection and monitoring,this research proposes a novel method to automate *** derived from multi-temporal image series processing,spectral indices and classification with Oneclass Support Vector Machine(OC-SVM)are used in this *** from multi-spectral sensors on Landsat-8 and MODIS were acquired through the Google Earth Engine API(GEE API).In order to evaluate our method,two bloom detection case studies(Lake Erie(USA)and Lake Taihu(China))were *** were made with methods based on spectral index ***,to demonstrate the performance of the OC-SVM classifier compared to other machine learning methods,the proposal was adapted to be used with a Random Forest(RF)classifier,having its results added to the *** situ measurements show that the proposed method delivers highly accurate results compared to spectral index thresholding ***,a drawback of the proposal refers to its higher computational *** application of the new method to a real-world bloom case is demonstrated.

A Script-Based Prototyping Framework to Boost Agile-UX Developments

Prototypes are described as a successful mechanism to incorporate user-experience design （UX） into Agile de- velopments, but their integration into such developments is not exempt from difficulties. Prototypes and final applications are often developed using different tools, which hinders the collaboration between designers and developers and also compli- cates reuse. Moreover, integrating stakeholders such as clients and users into the Agile process of designing, evaluating, and refining a prototype is not straightforward mainly because of its iterative nature. In an attempt to tackle these problems, this work presents the design and implementation of a new framework in which scripting languages are used to code prototyped behaviors. Prototyping is then treated as a separate aspect that coexists and runs together with final functionality. Using this framework communication is enhanced because designers and developers work in parallel on the same software artifact. Prototypes are fully reused and iteratively added with final functionality while prototyped behaviors are removed. They can be also modified on the fly to implement participatory design techniques.

Clinical and Demographic Profile of Women with Uterine Fibroids Living in Puerto Rico

Introduction: Uterine leiomyomas, or fibroids, are prevalent benign tumors affecting up to 70% of reproductive-age women in the United States, significantly impacting productivity and quality of life. Despite their commonality, the epidemiology and clinical patterns of leiomyomas in Puerto Rico remain inadequately researched. Methods: This study conducted a secondary data analysis using clinical, menstrual cycle characteristics, and demographic data from self-administered questionnaires of women undergoing diagnostic laparoscopy for endometriosis in Puerto Rico. Chi-square tests and t-tests analyzed categorical and continuous variables, respectively (p 40 years). Primiparous women averaged 22.14 years, with 40.71% having 2 - 3 pregnancies and 26.28% experiencing miscarriages. Symptoms included infertility (29.5%), dyspareunia (40.7%), severe pain (50%), and dysmenorrhea (75.6%). Comorbidities included ovarian cysts (52.2%) and abnormal uterine bleeding (37.8%). Conclusions: Advanced age, parity, and comorbidities like diabetes and hypertension were prevalent in our cohort. Understanding the epidemiological profile of women living in Puerto Rico with uterine fibroids is crucial for improving diagnostic awareness and enhancing patient care. 1. Background: The use of nutritional supplements(NS) among athletes is widespread. However, little is known about the relationship between nutritional adequacy and NS usage. The aims of this study were to evaluate the NS usage and to compare the nutritional intake from food and prevalence of micronutrient inadequacy(PMI) between NS users and ***: Portuguese athletes from 13 sports completed an NS usage questionnaire and a semi-quantitative food-frequency questionnaire assessing information over the previous 12 months. The estimated average requirement cut-point method was used to calculate PMI. General linear models were used to compare nutritional intake and NS usage. Chi-squared tests and logistic regression were performed to study, respectively,relationships and associations between PMI and NS ***: From the 244 athletes(66% males, 13–37 years), 64% reported NS usage. After adjustment, NS users showed a higher intake from food(p < 0.05), for at least 1 gender, for energy, and for 7 of the 17 studied nutrients. The highest PMI were seen for vitamins D and E, calcium, folate,and magnesium. After adjustment, NS users, irrespective of gender, reported lower PMI for calcium(OR = 0.28, 95%CI: 0.12–0.65), and female users for magnesium(OR = 0.06, 95%CI: 0.00–0.98).Conclusion: Athletes using NS reported a higher nutritional intake from food, and a lower PMI for several nutrients. Perhaps, those who were taking NS were probably the ones who would least benefit from it.
