Potential of video games for the promotion of neuroadaptation to multifocal intraocular lenses: a narrative review

Multifocal intraocular lenses(IOLs) are currently usually implanted for the treatment of cataracts because they have been proved to be superior to monofocal IOLs with respect to spectacle independence. In turn, they are associated with a higher prevalence of dysphotopsia symptoms that is one of the most common causes of patient dissatisfaction. Neuroadaptation seems to play a major role in the optimal adaptation to multifocal IOLs. In this context, the development of strategies that facilitate the neuroadaptation process to multifocality might be an effective strategy to reduce patients' dissatisfaction. Video games have been proved to be effective for the improvement of visual acuity and for the promotion of neuroplasticity in elderly subjects and other populations with cortical-related visual impairment. This narrative review highlights the physiological potential of video games as a perceptual strategy to improve visual acuity and promote neuroplasticity in patients using multifocalIOLs, although research is still needed to confirm these benefits in this specific population, with only one comparative study to this date providing evidence of them.

Optimization of the Production of Biogas in Anaerobic Digestion by the Addition of Hydrolytic Microorganisms

It is well known that fossil fuels are one of the major pollutants that contribute to climate change and there is a need to develop alternatives to their *** option is the use of a renewable fuel such as biogas obtained from the breaking down of organic matter in the anaerobic digestion *** biogas is cleaned up to a certain quality,it can substitute the use of natural ***,this slow process requires optimization to increase the amount of *** are chemical,physical and biological treatments for organic matter to increase the amount and quality of *** the former research,a biological treatment was tested by adding a selection of microorganisms that showed hydrolytic activity to an anaerobic digester for its ***,a selection of microorganisms with the ability to grow in fresh sewage sludge as only nutrient was ***,the lipolytic,cellulolytic and PA(Proteolytic Activity)of microorganisms was tested using selective growth ***,10 samples with the greatest hydrolytic activity were used to evaluate their effects in the increasing of biogas production in the anaerobic *** results showed that 83%of the microorganisms with the ability to grow in sewage sludge were proteolytic,while the percentage of lipolytic and cellulolytic microorganisms was ***,it was found that proteolytic microorganisms are the ones that increase biogas yield in a maximum of 80%with a COD(Chemical Oxygen Demand)reduction of 58%.

Objective: The aim of this study is to check whether there are differences in the distribution of empathy levels in dental students from nine faculties of dentistry Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica and Dominican Republic. Methods: The levels of empathy and matrices of empathy construct matrices are estimated dental students by using the Jefferson Scale of Physician Empathy, the Spanish version for students (S version) culturally validated in Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica and Dominican Republic measured by arbitrator criteria. Cronbach α is estimated. Data of empathic orientation of the studied factors between faculties are analyzed and compared by ANOVA and Duncan test and matrices of empathy construct using discriminant analysis. Results: We find that there are differences in levels of empathy between universities, courses, gender and interaction between the Dental Faculty (University) and Course. The comparison between matrices shows unexplained variances and differences observed between the levels of empathy in student populations. Conclusions: Variability in empathy is observed in the studied factors and among student populations. The variability is an empirical finding, but is not possible in this work, to explain why.

Synthesis, Structure, Adsorption Space and Magnetic Properties of Ni-oxalate Porous Molecular Magnet

We synthesized about sixty metal organic materials. Only three were metal organic frameworks (MOFs). One of them was a porous molecular magnet (PMM). For the PMM synthesis Ni was the node, oxalic acid the organic linker and DMF the solvent and shaping molecule. This PMM was studied with DRIFTS, Raman spectrometry, TGA, XRD, adsorption and with a VSM. TGA and adsorption data indicated that a microporous material with a pore volume, W = 0.10 ± 0.01 cm3/g was obtained. The analysis of the XRD profile indicated that it is a layered compound. The DRIFTS, Raman and XRD data revealed that each layer is formed by nickel cations linked by bis-bidentate and bridging-bis-bidentate oxalate ligands and the DMF molecules are perpendicularly linked to the nickel cations to produce stacking. Additionally, the Raman data allowed us to propose that the nickel cations are located in octahedral and pentacoordinated sites as Ni2+ and Ni3+. The Pawley fitting of the XRD profiles pointed out that the hydrated sample crystallizes in the P2/m space group. The cell parameters calculated are consistent with the proposed structure. Two different adsorption states showing different adsorption energies, in the physical adsorption range, were observed. The small amount estimated for the dispersive and quadrupole adsorption interaction energies was a confirmation of the proposed layered structure. The VSM study yielded an effective magnetic moment, ?eff?????????. This figure is consistent with nickel located in octahedral and pentacoordinated sites as Ni2+ and Ni3+. We had then obtained a new Ni-oxalic porous molecular magnet (Ni-Ox-PMM). The significance of this PMM is related to its porosity, that is, during degassing it release water turning into a porous stable structure, showing notable magnetic properties. Objective: The aim is to present a review about the whole-body vibration (WBV) exercises in the management of cystic fibrosis (CF). Methods: Computerized literature searches were performed using the PubMed databases. Results: A strong interest in studies, considering the number of publications, involving CF and lung was found. Although, the exercises and physical activities seem to have a high relevance in the management of the patients with CF, the number of publications involving these procedures is limited. Moreover, a modality of exercise involving WBV seems to be poorly utilized by the patients with CF and only two papers were found with positive actions. Conclusion: Oscillating platform is a promising technique to manage patients with CF. Moreover, as (i) the use of the oscillating platforms is inexpensive, (ii) the vibration exercise requires less technical abilities as compared to the performance of conventional resistance training and (iii) positive clinical findings have been noticed with the use of WBV in CF, it is suggested to implement the studies involving the application of the exercises with WBV in oscillating platforms to manage the patients with CF.
