Palaeobiogeographical constraints on the distribution of foraminifers and rugose corals in the carboniferous Tindouf Basin,South Morocco

The northern flank of the Tindouf Syncline in southern Morocco exhibits a continuous, well exposed carboniferous succession with limestones of Late Asbian to Early Bashkirian age containing rich and diverse foraminiferal and rugose coral assemblages. Analysis of these assemblages provides new data on the relatively poorly known Saharan basins. The palaeobiogeographical relationship of the Tindouf Basin with other Palaeotethyan basins is complex. Although there is a predominance of cosmopolitan taxa for the Palaeotethys, it is recognized that there was an influence of basins from NW Europe, such as the UK and Ireland. Some taxa are recorded in both NW Europe and Tindouf without any characteristic contributions from intermediate basins in northern Morocco. The neighbouring Béchar Basin in Algeria presents distinct assemblages. The bulk of the data analyzed suggest that this sector of the western Palaeotethys can be subdivided into four palaeobiogeographical subprovinces: the Atlantic Subprovince (UK, Ireland, N France and Belgium), the Mediterranean Subprovince (Pyrenees, Montagne Noire, Betic cordillera, Rif (N Morocco) and Balearic Islands), and the Saharan Subprovince (Béchar, Reggan, Ahnet-Mouydir and Tindouf). In between, mobile belts of mixed faunal assemblage characteristics are observed (e.g., SW Spain and central Meseta) forming the West peri-Gondwanan *** of the Tindouf Basin faunas shows that, as in other Saharan basins, there is a high diversity and abundance of foraminiferal taxa, with a higher proportion of survivors and longer stratigraphic ranges; these features also are mirrored by rugose corals. This emphasizes the longevity of the carbonate platform in a tropical setting, where periodic transgressions introduced new assemblages, and oceanic currents are interpreted as one of the main controlling factors for the distribution of the taxa in these subprovinces. The activity of Lewis (Nb2O5) and Br nsted (Amberlyst 70) acid catalysts for the cyclodehydration of xylose to furfural was studied. The nature of the acidity resulted in significant changes in the reaction mechanism. Lewis acid sites promote the formation of xylulose, while Br nsted acid sites are required to further dehydrate the sugar to furfural. Amberlyst 70 in water/toluene at 175 ℃ showed lower activity but gave a higher furfural yield. Using N2 as the stripping agent considerably improved the furfural yield and product purity in the stripped stream. catalyst stability was also studied.

Oncologic aspects of the decision-making process for surgical approach for colorectal liver metastases progressing during chemotherapy

In the last decade, evidence-based medical practice has been supported on a large scale by computerized decision support tools, aiming to reduce diagnostic and therapeutic uncertainty, complementing the actions of the health professional. With technological developments, it is now possible to consider these systems as part of clinical intervention, both for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The literature has described the implementation of e-health tools, that is, technological innovations in the health area such as software, applications, serious games, among others, as a strategy to improve the process and adherence to treatment. However, there is still no standardized instrument in Brazil that can be used to guide the development, from the research phase, and the implementation of these tools as a health intervention, also impacting patient outcomes. With the objective of investigating a new therapeutic and preventive form, based on intervention with a computerized system, this work proposes the creation of guidelines for the registration and implementation of e-health tools as a clinical intervention. The proposal aims to be able to assist in the reporting standardization from the development stage to the application of the e-health tool helping in the treatment of diseases, registering all the experience lived in the research and applying it in different contexts of health.

Antigen unmasking does not improve the visualization of phospholipase c zeta in human spermatozoa

Phospholipase c zeta(PLcζ)is a sperm-specific protein that triggers oocyte *** analysis of PLcζexpression in human spermatozoa can be used as a diagnostic marker for oocyte activation *** laboratory has previously optimized a standard"in-house"assay to determine PLcζexpression in human ***,one study has suggested that an antigen unmasking method(AUM)would be more efficient in visualizing PLcζin human *** study aimed to compare our established assay and AUM(involving Hcl,acidic Tyrode's solution[AT],and heat).The mean relative fluorescence(RF)intensity of PLcζin frozen-thawed spermatozoa from fourteen fertile donors stained with the in-house method was significantly higher than three other AUM groups(in-house[mean±standard error of mean]:18.87±2.39 arbitrary units[a.u.]vs non-AUM:11.44±1.61 a.u.,AT-AUM:12.38±1.89 a.u.,and Hcl-AUM:12.51±2.16 a.u.,Pce).The mean RF intensity of PLcζin AT-and Hcl-treated spermatozoa from 12 infertile males was not significantly different from that of the non-AUM ***,the in-house method resulted in the highest RF intensity(12.11±1.36 a.u.,Pcificity testing of antibody-antigen binding indicated that the in-house method showed more specific binding than spermatozoa treated by the *** conclusion,our in-house method showed superior visualization and reliability than the AUM,thus supporting the continued use of our in-house assay for clinical research screening.
