a.study wa. conducted to eva.ua.e va.ia.ion in the ra.io of X- to Y-bea.ing sperm of individua. eja.ula.es a.d to determine a.y rela.ionship between skewed sex ra.io a.d either routine morphologica. eva.ua.ion or computer a.sisted sperm a.a.ysis (Ca.a.. Semen wa. collected from bulls weekly for 6 consecutive weeks, sperm DNa.wa. recovered a.d qua.tita.ive, a.d rea.-time PCR wa. used to determine the ra.io of X- to Y-bea.ing sperm in ea.h eja.ula.e. The overa.l mea. of X-bea.ing sperm within eja.ula.es wa. 54.7% over the 6 weeks of semen collections. The percenta.es of X-bea.ing sperm were simila. (P > 0.5) a.ross a.l collections. Between bulls, there were differences (P a. percenta.e of X-bea.ing sperm. No significa.t correla.ions were found between Ca.a.pa.a.eters a.d percenta.e of X-bea.ing sperm a.ross bulls, so a.a.ysis wa. done within ea.h bull. Different combina.ions of Ca.a.a.d/or morphologica. pa.a.eters were found to correla.e with the percenta.e of X-bea.ing sperm but the prediction equa.ions were specific for individua. bulls a.d unlikely to be of use a.ross bulls. These results confirm tha. the ra.io of X- to Y-bea.ing sperm ma. be skewed in some eja.ula.es of bull semen. Some sperm pa.a.eters mea.ured by Ca.a.or routine morphologica. eva.ua.ion were a.socia.ed with semen sex ra.io.

Ba.KGROUND Helicoba.ter pylori(***)is a.widesprea. microorga.ism rela.ed to ga.tric a.enoca.cinoma.a.).In contra.t,it ha. been reported tha. a. inverse a.socia.ion exists between *** infection a.d esopha.ea. *** mecha.isms underlying this supposedly protective effect rema.n *** To determine the preva.ence of *** infection in esopha.ea. ca.cinoma.pa.ients,we performed a.retrospective observa.iona. study of esopha.ea. tumors dia.nosed in our *** We retrospectively reviewed the preva.ence of *** infection in a.cohort of pa.ients dia.nosed with esopha.ea. *** or previous proton pump inhibitor(PPI)usa.e wa. a.so *** a.tota. of 89 pa.ients with esopha.ea. ca.cinoma.69 ma.es,77.5%),with a.mea. a.e of 66 yea.s(ra.ge,26-93 yea.s)were *** wa. the most frequent pa.hologica. va.ia.t(n=47,52.8%),followed by squa.ous cell ca.cinoma.n=37,41.6%).Fourteen a.s(29.8%)origina.ed in the ga.troesopha.ea. junction a.d 33(70.2%)in the esopha.ea. ***,54 pa.ients(60.7%)presented a. sta.es III a.d *** *** infection occurred only in 4 pa.ients(4.5%),3 with a.(6.3%of a.l a.s)a.d 1 with squa.ous cell ca.cinoma.2.7%of a.l squa.ous cell tumors).a.l pa.ients with previous *** infection ha. sta.e *** one pa.ient ha. received prior *** era.ica.ion thera.y,wherea. 86(96.6%)ha. received previous or concomita.t PPI *** In our cohort of pa.ients,a.d a.ter histologic eva.ua.ion of pa.a.fin-embedded prima.y tumors,we found a.very low preva.ence of previous *** *** a.so reviewed the medica. history of the pa.ients,concluding tha. the ma.ority ha. received or were on PPI *** minima. preva.ence of *** infection found in this cohort of pa.ients with esopha.ea. ca.cinoma.suggests a.protective role.
