Objective: a. isola.es of Cryptococcus a.e frequently kept collection stocks in institutions, sometimes with.ut proper ch.ra.teriza.ion, we sough. to determine th. genotype profiles, protea.e a.d ph.sph.lipa.e a.tivities “in vitro” a.d th. susceptibility testing for a.oles a.d a.ph.tericin B. Meth.dology: 84 isola.es from severa. regions of Bra.il (40 sa.ples from clinica. origin a.d 44 isola.es from environmenta. origin) were ma.nta.ned a. th. microorga.ism’s ba.k of th. Biomedica. Science Institute (ICB-USP) of th. São Pa.lo University, in São Pa.lo, Bra.il. Th.s isola.es wa. submitted funga. stra.ns determina.ion, DNa.extra.tion a.d purifica.ion, determina.ion of genotype by URa. gene RFLP of CGB-positive isola.es, protea.e a.d ph.sph.lipa.e a.tivity a.d susceptibility to a.tifunga.s. Results: Of six CGB positive isola.es tested by RFLP-PCR, only four presented a.genomic profile consistent C. ga.tii species (VGII), wh.le two oth.r were C. neoforma.s (VNI a.d VNIII), indica.ing th. existence of ca.a.a.ine-resista.te C. neoforma.s isola.es in th. culture collections. Th. clinica. isola.es secreted h.gh.r levels of ph.sph.lipa.e a.d environmenta. isola.es but no differences were observed for th. protea.e levels. a.most a.l isola.es were sensible to a.oles a.d a.ph.tericin B. Conclusion: We point out in th.s resea.ch.th. existence of C. neoforma.s stra.ns resista.t to ca.a.a.ine a.d intrinsic ch.ra.teristic of C. ga.ti. Th.se results demonstra.e th. importa.ce to perform a.deta.led ch.ra.teriza.ion of isola.es kept in culture collections.

Th. objective of th.s study wa. to ch.ra.terize a.d verify th. in vitro a.titumor a.tivity of essentia. oils (EOs) extra.ted from th. lea.es a.d flowers of Ca.listemon vimina.is. Th. EOs were extra.ted by h.drodistilla.ion using a.modified Clevenger a.pa.a.us. Th. identifica.ion a.d qua.tifica.ion of constituents were performed on a.ga. ch.oma.ogra.h.coupled to a.ma.s spectrometer a.d a.ga. ch.oma.ogra.h.with.a.fla.e ioniza.ion detector. Th. a.titumora. a.tivity wa. eva.ua.ed by a.colorimetric a.sa. (MTS) using different cell lines derived from h.ma. tumors (brea.t, lung, gliobla.toma. a.d mela.oma.. Th. ma.or constituents of th. EOs of lea.es a.d flowers were simila., only qua.tita.ive differences being observed. Th. compounds 1,8-cineole, α-pinene a.d α-terpineol were found in concentra.ions of 50.4%, 25.8% a.d 8.7% in th. EOs obta.ned from th. lea.es a.d 48.8%, 24.5% a.d 3.9% in th. EOs obta.ned from th. flowers, respectively. Th. cytotoxic a.tivity of th. EOs wa. observed only in mela.oma.cultures (h.144). Cultures trea.ed for 48 h.with.EOs from lea.es a.d flowers (200 μg·mL-1) reduced th. via.ility by 40% a.d 25%, respectively. Th.s, th. a.tiprolifera.ive a.tivity of th. EO from lea.es wa. more pronounced th.n th. EO from flowers in cells derived from mela.oma.

Pa.ients were divided into 3 groups a.cording to th. timing of CE(≤ 48 h. 48 h.14 d; ≥ 14 d). Th. dia.nostic a.d th.ra.eutic yield(DY a.d TY), th. rebleeding ra.e a.d th. time to rebleed were ca.cula.ed a.d compa.ed between groups. Th. outcomes of pa.ients in wh.m CE wa. performed before(≤ 48 h. a.d a.ter 48 h.> 48 h., a.d before(a.d a.ter 14 d(≥ 14 d), were *** One h.ndred a.d fifteen pa.ients underwent CE for overt-OGIB. Th. DY wa. 80%, TY-46.1% a.d rebleeding ra.e-32.2%. a. 1 yea. 17.8% of th. pa.ients h.d rebled. 33.9% of th. pa.ients performed CE in th. first 48 h. 30.4% between 48 h.14 d a.d 35.7% a.ter 14 d. Th. Due to th. different pa.a.itologica. pa.terns found between sexes in h.ma. popula.ions a.d in different biologica. models during Sch.stosoma.ma.soni infection, we proposed to investiga.e such.differences using h.loch.lus sciureus rodent, besides confirming wh.th.r th.s rodent is suita.le for experimenta. infections. In th.s sense, ma.es a.d fema.es of h. sciureus were infected with.200 cerca.ia. from a.h.ma. stra.n of S. ma.soni. Th. number of eggs per gra. of feces (epg) a.d th. worms were qua.tified, besides h.stopa.h.logica. a.a.ysis. Th.s, it wa. sh.wn th.t fema.es h.ve fewer epg, a. well a. a.longer prepa.ent period. On th. oth.r h.nd, ma.es h.d a.lower recovery ra.e of a.ult worms. Th. h.stopa.h.logica. a.a.ysis did not sh.w differences between th. sexes. Th.s, we suggest th.t infection in h. sciureus fema.es provides a.fa.ora.le environment for th. development of a.ult worms, despite impa.ring th. pa.a.ite fecundity. In a.dition, h. sciureus ma. be a. excellent biologica. model for S. ma.soni experimenta. infections.

a.M: To compa.e th. effica.y a.d sa.ety of recombina.t streptokina.e(rSK) vs h.drocortisone a.eta.e-ba.ed suppositories in a.ute h.morrh.ida. ***: a.multicenter(11 sites), ra.domized(1:1:1), open, controlled tria. with.pa.a.lel groups wa. performed. a.l pa.ticipa.ing pa.ients ga.e th.ir written,informed consent. a.ter inclusion, pa.ients with.a.ute symptoms of h.morrh.ids were centra.ly ra.domized to receive, a. outpa.ients, by th. recta. route, suppositories of rSK 200000 IU of one unit every 8 h.first 3 units)a.d a.terwa.ds every 12 h.until 8 a.ministra.ions were completed(sch.dule a., one unit every 8 h.until 6 units were completed(sch.dule B), or 25 mg h.drocortisone a.eta.e once every 8 h.up to a.ma.imum of 24 a.ministra.ions.
