We apply stochastic seismic inversion and Bayesian f.cies classif.cation f.r porosity modeling and igneous rock identif.cation in the presalt interval of.the Santos Basin. This integration of.seismic and well-derived inf.rmation enhances reservoir characterization. Stochastic inversion and Bayesian classif.cation are powerf.l tools because they permit addressing the uncertainties in the model. We used the ES-MDA algorithm to achieve the realizations equivalent to the percentiles P10, P50, and P90 of.acoustic impedance, a novel method f.r acoustic inversion in presalt. The f.cies were divided into f.ve: reservoir 1,reservoir 2, tight carbonates, clayey rocks, and igneous rocks. To deal with the overlaps in acoustic impedance values of.f.cies, we included geological inf.rmation using a priori probability, indicating that structural highs are reservoir-dominated. To illustrate our approach, we conducted porosity modeling using f.cies-related rock-physics models f.r rock-physics inversion in an area with a well drilled in a coquina bank and evaluated the thickness and extension of.an igneous intrusion near the carbonate-salt interf.ce. The modeled porosity and the classif.ed seismic f.cies are in good agreement with the ones observed in the wells. Notably, the coquinas bank presents an improvement in the porosity towards the top. The a priori probability model was crucial f.r limiting the clayey rocks to the structural lows. In Well B, the hit rate of.the igneous rock in the three scenarios is higher than 60%, showing an excellent thickness-prediction capability.

Severe SARS-CoV-2 Inf.ction: Late Impact on the Retinal Ganglion Cell Layer Thickness

Purpose: The involvement of.the ocular anterior segment by SARS-CoV-2 has been the subject of.many studies, however, the repercussions on the posterior segment, particularly on the dif.erent layers of.the retina and optic nerve, are still little known. The purpose of.this study was to evaluate the impact of.severe CoVID-19 on the retinal ganglion cell layer (RGCL) thickness. Methods: This observational, prospective and analytical study was perf.rmed in the ophthalmology Department of.the f.CISA University Center, Campina Grande. Three groups were included: group I (control), 29 healthy individuals who had not severe CoVID-19;group II (inf.rmary), 24 individuals who had CoVID-19 and were hospitalized in the inf.rmary;and group III, 25 individuals who had severe CoVID-19 and required Intense Care Unit (ICU). All individuals had ophthalmologic examination and assessment of.RGCL thickness using optical Coherence Tomography (oCT). Statistical tests required p ≤ 0.05 to reject the null hypothesis. Results: The mean of.RGCL thickness was signif.cantly reduced in individuals f.om GIII (77.9 ± 8.9 µm), as compared with GII (83.9 ± 10.9 µm) and GI (82.8 ± 6.5 µm) (p = 0.0027). The mean measurements f.om the retinal neve f.ber layer (RNf.) of.the optic nerve head were similar. However, when evaluated sectoral, the mean of.RNf. at the temporal sector of.the optic disc was signif.cantly lower in group GIII (p Conclusion: The RGCL thickness f.om patients with severe CoVID-19 was signif.cantly reduced. This f.nding supports that the SARS-CoV-2 has systemic action and af.inity f.r nerve cells, including those f.om the retina and are related to the severity of.the inf.ction.

The study aimed to assess the clinical, laboratory, and blood gas analysis of.horses undergoing Marcha training and the ef.ects of.voluntary ingestion of.hydroelectrolytic and energy replenishers af.er exercise. Eight horses of.both genders aged between 5 and 10 years, were included in the study. The exercise consisted of.a 10-min warm-up f.llowed by 45 min uninterrupted Marcha on a f.at dirt track in the morning. Af.er exercise, the horses received one of.the f.llowing treatments: Drinking water (control group);Hydroelectrolytic and energy replenisher containing sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium acetate, magnesium chloride, sodium citrate, dextrose, maltodextrin, and sucrose in three dif.erent concentrations (Replenishers A, B, and C). The horses were distributed across the f.ur treatments in a 4 × 4 Latin Squares design using a Split-plot system with 48-hr intervals. Clinical and laboratory evaluations were conducted at f.ur time points: T0 - 5 min bef.re exercise;T1 - up to 5 min af.er exercise;T2 - 2 hr af.er starting treatment;and T4 - 4 hr af.er beginning treatment. Concentrations of.urea, creatinine, lactate, phosphorus, and ionized calcium signif.cantly changed af.er exercise. An increase in blood pH and a decrease in chloride concentrations were observed when replenishers B and C were of.ered af.er exercise. The replacements were ingested spontaneously by the animals in a volume greater than that of.the control group (water). Replacement B was the most ingested by the animals, demonstrating its greatest potential.

Ballistic response of.armour plates using Generative Adversarial Networks

It is important to understand how ballistic materials respond to impact f.om projectiles such that inf.rmed decisions can be made in the design process of.protective armour systems. Ballistic testing is a standards-based process where materials are tested to determine whether they meet protection, saf.ty and perf.rmance criteria. f.r the V50ballistic test, projectiles are f.red at dif.erent velocities to determine a key design parameter known as the ballistic limit velocity(BLV), the velocity above which projectiles perf.rate the target. These tests, however, are destructive by nature and as such there can be considerable associated costs, especially when studying complex armour materials and systems. This study proposes a unique solution to the problem using a recent class of.machine learning system known as the Generative Adversarial Network(GAN). The GAN can be used to generate new ballistic samples as opposed to perf.rming additional destructive experiments. A GAN network architecture is tested and trained on three dif.erent ballistic data sets, and their perf.rmance is compared. The trained networks were able to successf.lly produce ballistic curves with an overall RMSE of.between 10 and 20 % and predicted the V50BLV in each case with an error of.less than 5 %. The results demonstrate that it is possible to train generative networks on a limited number of.ballistic samples and use the trained network to generate many new samples representative of.the data that it was trained on. The paper spotlights the benef.ts that generative networks can bring to ballistic applications and provides an alternative to expensive testing during the early stages of.the design process.

A RANS-Vof.Numerical Model to Analyze the output Power of.An oWC-WEC Equipped with Wells and Impulse Turbines in A Hypothetical Sea-State

Wave energy is a renewable source with signif.cant amount in relation to the global demand. A good concept of.a device applied to extract this type of.energy is the onshore oscillating water column wave energy converter(oWC-WEC). This study shows a numerical analysis of.the diameter determination of.two types of.turbines, Wells and Impulse, installed in an onshore oWC device subjected to a hypothetical sea state. Commercial sof.ware f.UENT?,which is based on RANS-Vof.Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations and Volume of.f.uid technique), is employed. A methodology that imposes air pressure on the chamber, considering the air compressibility ef.ect, is used. The mathematical domain consists of.a 10 m deep f.ume with a 10 m long and 10 m wide oWC chamber at its end(geometry is similar to that of.the Pico's plant installed in Azores islands, Portugal). on the top of.the chamber, a turbine works with air exhalation and inhalation induced by the water f.ee surf.ce which oscillates due to the incident wave. The hypothetical sea state, represented by a group of.regular waves with periods f.om 6 to 12 s and heights f.om 1.00 to 2.00 m(each wave with an occurrence f.equency), is considered to show the potential of.the presented methodology. Maximum ef.iciency(relation between the average output and incident wave powers) of.6% was obtained by using a Wells turbine with the diameter of.2.25 m, whereas the ef.iciency was 44% by an Impulse turbine with the diameter of.1.70 m.

Hazardous elements and amorphous nanoparticles in historical estuary coal mining area

In Brazil, intense coal exploitation activities have led to environmental deterioration, including soil mortif.cation, water contamination, loss of.ecosystem, and atmospheric contamination. In addition,considerable quantities of.sulf.r-rich residues are lef. behind in the mining area; these residues pose grave environmental issues as they undergo sulf.de oxidation reactions. When sulf.r oxides come in contact with water, extreme acid leachate is produced with great proportions of.sulf.te, and hazardous elements(HEs), which are identif.ed as coal drainage(CMD). CMD is an environmental pollution challenge, particularly in countries with historic or active coal mines. To prevent CMD f.rmation or its migration, the source must be controlled; however, this may not be f.asible at many locations. In such scenarios, the mine water should be collected, treated, and discharged. In this study, data f.om 2005 to2010 was gathered on the geochemistry of.11 CMD discharges f.om ten dif.erent mines. There are several concerns and questions on the f.rmation of.nanominerals in mine acid drainage and on their reactions and interf.ces. The detailed mineralogical and geochemical data presented in this paper were derived f.om previous studies on the coal mine areas in Brazil. oxyhydroxides, sulf.tes, and nanoparticles in these areas possibly go through structural transf.rmations depending on their size and f.rmation conditions. The geochemistry of.f.-precipitates(such as jarosite, goethite, and hematite) existent in the CMD-generating coal areas and those that could be considered as a potential source of.hazardous elements(HEs)(e.g., Cr) were also studied because these precipitates are relatively stable in extremely low pH conditions.
