Insight into 5-aminolevulinic acid-induced modulation of cellular antioxidant metabolism to confer salinity and drought tolerance in maize

The current study investigated the comparative oxidative damage in twomaize seedlings induced by saline,drought,and combined stress and the ameliorative role of two different doses(20 and 80μM)of 5-aminolevulinic acid(ALA)against the above-mentioned *** grown 10-day-old maize(Zea mays,*** Hybrid Maize-7(BHM-7)and BARI Hybrid Maize-9(BHM-9))seedlings were exposed to 12 dS/m of saline solution,200 mM mannitol-induced drought stress alone and their combined stress for 7 *** revealed that individual stresses retard the plant growth to some degrees,however,their combined stress has more detrimental effects,which might be correlated with lipid peroxidation(mdA)-induced oxidative stress in seedlings,enhanced Na+/K+ratio,and augmented generation of superoxide(O_(2)•^(−))and hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)).In contrast,exogenous ALA supplementation at 20μM concentration markedly recovered from chlorosis and growth inhibition,substantially scavenged reactive oxygen species(ROS)and mdA by preserving ionhomeostasis and relaxing oxidative stress,also,by boosting catalase(CAT)and glutathione S-transferase(GST),and exclusively via depressing the activity of lipoxygenase(LOX)antioxidant *** the contrary,80μM ALA made things worse,nevertheless,higher activities shown by other antioxidant enzymes,like,superoxide dismutase(SOD),ascorbate peroxidase(APX),peroxidase(POD),and glutathione peroxidase(GPX),which were related to lessen the oxidative damage by highly produced O_(2)•^(−)and H_(2)O_(2) under combined ***-denaturing gel electrophoresis was done for further ***,ALA importantly increased the photosynthetic pigment contents in both genotypes irrespective of ***,GST might have assisted the plants to escape from the herbicidal effect by ***,in the combined stress condition,high ALA concentration may have some positive role to *** findings also showed that BHM-9 performed better than BHM

Origin of the regional stress field along the Liquine-Ofqui Fault Zone(LOFZ),Southern Chilean Andes by means of Fe Simulation

The Liquine-Ofqui Fault Zone(LOFZ) of southern Chilean Andes is one of the largest active strike-slip fault *** is an ongoing debate regarding the origin of the stress field along the LOFZ due to its complex *** paper represents a study of the origins of the LOFZ regional stress *** fields are calculated by finite element(Fe) *** two possible stress origins, i.e., oblique plate convergence and ridge collision/indenter tectonics of Chile ridge against peru-Chile trench, have been emphasized in the present *** types of boundary conditions for the three particular models have been applied to calculate stress *** are assumed to be elastic and plane stress *** results are presented in terms of four parameters, i.e., orientation of maximum horizontal stress(σ H max ), displacement vector, s train distribution, and maximum shear stress(τmax ) contour line within the *** results of the first model with oblique plate convergence show inconsistency between the geometric shape of the LOFZ and the distribution of the four *** more realistic results are obtained from the second model with normal ridge collision, there are few coincident in the LOFZ geometry and regional stress *** third model with normal and oblique ridge collision is reasonable in understanding the origin of stress field and geometrical condition in the lithosphere of the LOFZ.

BACKGROUND Among the most frequent hip fractures are trochanteric fractures,which usually occur from low-energy trauma like minor falls,especially in older people with osteoporotic *** To evaluate the treatment efficacy of dynamic condylar screws(DCS)and proximal femoral nails(PFN)for unstable intertrochanteric *** To find pertinent randomized controlled trials and retrospective observational studies comparing PFN with DCS for the management of unstable femoral intertrochanteric fractures,a thorough search was carried *** research studies published between January 1996 and April 2024,PubMed,eMBASe,Scopus,Web of Science,Cochrane Library,and Google Scholar were all *** complete texts of the papers were retrieved,vetted,and independently examined by two *** were settled by consensus,and any disagreements that persisted were arbitrated by a third *** This study included six articles,comprising a total of 173 *** to the DCS,the PFN had a shorter operation time[mean difference(md):-41.7 min,95%confidence interval(95%CI):-63.04 to-20.35,P=0.0001],higher success rates with closed reduction techniques[risk ratio(RR):34.05,95%CI:11.12-104.31,Pequired less intraoperative blood transfusion(md:-1.4 units,95%CI:-1.80 to-1.00,Pe PFN showed shorter fracture union time(md:-6.92 wk,95%CI:-10.27 to-3.57,Per incidence of reoperation(RR:0.37,95%CI:0.17-0.82,P=0.01).However,there was no discernible variation regarding hospital stay,implant-related complications,and *** Compared to DCS,PFN offers shorter operative times,reduces the blood transfusions requirements,achieves higher closed reduction success,enables faster fracture healing,and lowers reoperation incidence.

The significance of the posted minimum speed limits along interstate highways in South Carolina on traffic operation and safety

This paper evaluated the significance of the posted differential speed limits(DSL)on traffic safety and operation along interstate highways in South *** paper defines DSL as the difference between the posted maximum and minimum speed *** paper used vehicle speed and traffic crashes for *** evaluation results showed over 99%of all vehicles complied with the posted 45 mph minimum speed limit and more than 50%of drivers drove above the posted maximum speed limit regardless of the posted maximum speed *** results also indicated that speed variations increased as the DSL ***,the safety evaluation showed conflicting results on the impacts of the DSL on *** results showed the DSL had negative implications on crashes per AADT per *** is attributed to increased interactions between slower and faster-moving vehicles in the traffic *** the contrary,it was observed that segments with higher DSL had fewer crashes per mile per lane than the segments with the lower *** results suggest there is a need to conduct more research to quantify the efficacy of posting the minimum speed limit because there were no problems observed with motorists driving too slowly on interstate *** results provide important information on the efficacy of posting minimum speed limits to improve the uniformity of traffic flow and safety.

This paper proposes a secure offline electronic(e-)payment scheme by adopting Schnorr’s untraceable blind signature(BS).Thereby,to satisfy the essential security requirements of e-payment systems,it requires much more simple computations and becomes more practical than many existing *** considerations are:to prevent the forgery of e-coin,the Bank is only the lawful entity to produce the valid e-coin;and others can verify its *** confirm no swindling,the e-coin owner also sticks her private signing key with the e-coin before spending it as the ***,through the commitment with challenge-response of Schnorr’s BS,the merchant can verify the spent e-coin,and the trusted authority can identify the dishonest spender if multiple spending ***,it embeds three distinct information of date,namely expiration,deposit,and transaction dates with every ***,it minimizes the size of the Bank’s database,correctly calculates the interest of the e-coin,and helps in arbiter if multiple spending,***,it evaluates the performance and analyzes essential security requirements of the proposed scheme,plus studies a comparison with existing ones.

Cohesive Strength and Seismogenic Stress Pattern along the Active Basement Faults of the Precordillera-Sierras Pampeanas Ranges,Western Argentina:An experimental Analysis by Means of Numerical Model

A two-dimensional finite element method （FeM） model that incorporates faults, elastic rock physical properties, topographical load due to gravity and far-field plate velocity boundary conditions was used to recognize the seismogenic stress state along the fold-and-thrust belt of the Precordillera-Sierras Pampeanas ranges of western Argentina. A plane strain model with nine experiments was presented here to examine the fault strength with two major rock phyical properties： cohesion and angle of internal friction. Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion with bulk rock properties were applied to analyse faults. The stress field at any point of the model was assumed to be comprised of gravitational and tectonic components. The analysis was focused to recognize the seismogenic shear strain concentrated in the internal-cristaline domain of the orogene shown by the modeling. Modeling results are presented in terms of four parameters, i. e., （i） distributions, orientations, and magnitudes of principal stresses （σ1 and σ3）, （ii） displacement vector1 （iii） strain distribution, and （iv） maximum shear stress （τmax） contour line within the model. The simulation results show that the compressive stress is distributed in and around the fault systems. The overall orientation of of σ1 is in horizontal directions, although reorientations do occur within some stress weaker parts, especially subsequent to the faults. A large-scale shear stress is accumulating along the active faults of Tapias-Villicum Fault （TVF）, Salinas-Berros Fault （SBF）, Ampacama-Niquizanga Fault （ANF） and Las Charas Fault （CF）, which could act as local stress and strain modulators to localize the earthquakesoccurrence.

Optimization of process parameters for the bioconversion of activated sludge by penicillium corylophilum, using response surface methodology

The optimization of process parameters for the bioconversion of activated sludge by penicillium corylophilum was investigated using response surface methodology （RSM）. The three parameters namely temperature of 33℃, agitation of 150 r/min, and pH of 5 were chosen as center point from the previous study of fungal treatment. The experimental data on chemical oxygen demand （COD） removal （%） were fitted into a quadratic polynomial model using multiple regression analysis. The optimum process conditions were determined by analyzing response surface three-dimensional surface plot and contour plot and by solving the regression model equation with Design expert software. Box-Behnken design technique under RSM was used to optimize their interactions, which showed that an incubation temperature of 32.5℃, agitation of 105 r/min, and pH of 5.5 were the best conditions. Under these conditions, the maximum predicted yield of COD removal was 98.43%. These optimum conditions were used to evaluate the trail experiment, and the maximum yield of COD removal was recorded as 98.5%.

perovskite LaCoO_(3) is being increasingly explored as an effective low-cost electrocatalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction(OeR).Sr doping in LaCoO_(3)(La1-xSrxCoO_(3))has been found to substantially increase its catalytic *** this work,we report a detailed study on the evolution of the electronic structure of La1-xSrxCoO_(3) with 0≤x≤1 and its correlation with electrocatalytic activity for the OeR.A combination of X-ray photoemission spectroscopy(XPS)and X-ray absorption spectroscopy(XAS)was used to unravel the electronic density of states(DOS)near the Fermi level(eF),which provide insights into the key electronic structure features for the enhanced OeR catalytic *** analysis on the Co L-edge XAS suggest that LaCoO_(3) has a low spin state with t_(2g)^(6) e_(g)^(0) configuration at room *** implies that the high OeR catalytic activity of LaCoO_(3) should not be rationalized by the occupancy of eg=1 *** Sr^(2+) for La^(3+) in LaCoO_(3) induces Co4+oxidation states and effectively dopes hole states into the top of valence band.A semiconductor-to-metal transition is observed for x>0.2,due to the holeinduced electronic DOS at the eF and increased hybridization between Co 3 d and O 2 *** an electronic modulation enhances the surface adsorption of the*OH intermediate and reduces the energy barrier for interfacial charge transfer,thus improving the OeR catalytic activity in La_(1-x)Sr_(x)CoO_(3).In addition,we found that the La_(1-x)Sr_(x)CoO_(3) surface undergoes amorphization after certain period of OeR measurement,leading to a partial deactivation of the *** Sr doping levels accelerated the amorphization process.
