Potential new metabolic approach for treatment of diabetes mellitus: converting glucose to ascorbic acid (vitamin C)

Through changing in lifestyle and increasing the global prevalence of diabetes mellitus, its crucial to find new approaches for treatment of this disease. This metabolic disease is characterized by hyperglycemia, insulin de ficiency or insulin resistance. This disorder categorized into type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 usually initiate from childhood, have an autoimmune background and associated with destroying of beta cells of pancreas. Type 2 diabetes is defined as insulin resistance, hyperglycemia and usually appears in adulthood. In the process of diabetes, hyperglycemia and oxidative stress can induce diabetic retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy and cardiovascular disease. According to literature, oxidative stress and chronic inflammation play an essential role in initiation and development of the complications of diabetes. Hence, inhibition of chronic inflammation and oxidative stress besides with glycemic control is important to prevent from these clinical complications. Some researches explained the antioxidant and anti- inflammatory property of vitamin C in patients with diabetes mellitus. Moreover, ascorbic acid can help to better glycemic control in these patients. Thus, we propose a new idea to convert excess amount of glucose to vitamin C for treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus. By performing this idea, we can achieve to better clinical management of diabetes in terms of glycemic control and prevention of oxidative stress which lead to significant decrease in clinical complications.

Optimum Level of Replacement Slag in OPC-Slag Mortars

The present paper reports the testing of 14 OPC-slag mortars and 2 controls OPC and slag mortars. The main aim is to determine the optimum level of replacement slag for achievement to the highest early strength with reasonable flow. Variable was the level of GGBFS in the binder. In this experimental work, two types of sands were used that are： silica and mining sands. It is determined that the optimum level of replacement slag is 40% and use of silica sand in OPC is preferable to mining sand and reversely, use of mining sand is preferred in GG100 to silica sand. All mortars had W/B and S/B 0.33 and 2.25, respectively.

This study explores the impact of introducing vacancy in the transition metal layer of rationally designed Na_(0.6)[Ni_(0.3)Ru_(0.3)Mn_(0.4)]O_(2)(NRM)cathode *** incorporation of Ru,Ni,and vacancy enhances the structural stability during extensive cycling,increases the operation voltage,and induces a capacity increase while also activating oxygen redox,respectively,in Na_(0.7)[Ni_(0.2)V_(Ni0.1)Ru_(0.3)Mn_(0.4)]O_(2)(V-NRM)*** analytical techniques including transmission electron microscopy,X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy,operando X-ray diffraction,and operando differential electrochemical mass spectrometry are employed to assess changes in the average oxidation states and structural *** results demonstrate that V-NRM exhibits higher capacity than NRM and maintains a moderate capacity retention of 81%after 100 ***,the formation of additional lone-pair electrons in the O 2p orbital enables V-NRM to utilize more capacity from the oxygen redox validated by density functional calculation,leading to a widened dominance of the OP4 phase without releasing O_(2) *** findings offer valuable insights for the design of advanced high-capacity cathode materials with improved performance and sustainability in sodium-ion batteries.

The scope for manipulating the polyunsaturated fatty acid content of beef:a review

Since 1950, links between intake of saturated fatty acids and heart disease have led to recommendations to limit consumption of saturated fatty acid-rich foods, including beef. Over this time, changes in food consumption patterns in several countries including Canada and the USA have not led to improvements in health. Instead, the incidence of obesity, type II diabetes and associated diseases have reached epidemic proportions owing in part to replacement of dietary fat with refined carbohydrates. Despite the content of saturated fatty acids in beef, it is also rich in heart healthy cis-monounsaturated fatty acids, and can be an important source of long-chain omega-3（n-3） fatty acids in populations where little or no oily fish is consumed. Beef also contains polyunsaturated fatty acid biohydrogenation products,including vaccenic and rumenic acids, which have been shown to have anticarcinogenic and hypolipidemic properties in cell culture and animal models. Beef can be enriched with these beneficial fatty acids through manipulation of beef cattle diets, which is now more important than ever because of increasing public understanding of the relationships between diet and health. The present review examines recommendations for beef in human diets, the need to recognize the complex nature of beef fat, how cattle diets and management can alter the fatty acid composition of beef, and to what extent content claims are currently possible for beef fatty acids.

Objective:Peyronie’s disease(PD)is an abnormal wound healing in the penile tunica *** fibrotic plaque excision,different graft materials have been used to repair the defects,but the optimal graft remains *** study aimed to compare the functional outcomes of testicular tunica vaginalis grafts and bovine pericardium grafts in patients with severe ***:A retrospective comparative study was conducted on 33 PD patients undergoing partial plaque excision and grafting from September 2015 to May *** patients were divided into two groups depending on the type of graft *** 15 patients in Group B,testicular tunica vaginalis grafts were used to repair the defect,while for 18 patients in Group A,bovine pericardium grafts were *** of the patient’s age,comorbidities,sexual function,penile curvature,postoperative complications,need for further treatment,change in penile length,and satisfaction were gathered and compared between the *** function was evaluated using the 5-item version of the International Index of Erectile Function(IIEF-5),and a functional less than 20-degree penile curvature after surgery was considered a successful ***:There was no difference in age,comorbidities,degree of curvature,perioperative IIEF-5,operative time,plaque size,or complication *** surgery,a statistically significant improvement in curvature degree(p<0.05)and satisfactory penile appearance(p<0.05)were seen in both groups without any superiority between the two groups(p=0.423 and p=0.840,respectively).With a 30-month follow-up,the IIEF-5 was consistent in both groups,with no statistical significance between the groups(p=0.492).The main change in penile length during the operation was increased and still positive in the last follow-up in both groups without statistical significance(p=0.255 and p=0.101,respectively).Conclusion:Partial plaque excision and corporoplasty with both testicular tunica vaginalis or bovine pericard

裂缝的产生与扩展对重力坝的安全稳定性造成潜在的威胁。实际工程中,重力坝往往处于自重与外部水压力的持续加载状态。已有的研究表明,由于正常蓄水位较低,持续荷载作用下初始裂缝并未产生扩展。此外,迎水面的水位随季节变化,进一步导致持续荷载水平发生改变,重力坝经历不同荷载水平的持续加载历史。为了评估重力坝服役期间的安全稳定性以及剩余承载力,有必要研究持载历史对混凝土断裂性能的影响,包括起裂荷载、峰值荷载、临界裂缝长度、断裂能,起裂断裂韧度、失稳断裂韧度等。针对持载历史对混凝土断裂性能的影响,本文开展了以下研究。(1)采用三点弯曲断裂试验研究持载历史对混凝土I型断裂性能的影响,在电液伺服试验机上开展持载试验以及持载后断裂试验。持载试验包括两个持载阶段,通过改变两个阶段的荷载水平、持续时间以及先后顺序以实现多种工况的持续加载。持载试验后直接进入准静态加载阶段,采用位移控制的加载模式以得到完整的下降段,并得到混凝土的起裂荷载、峰值荷载、临界裂缝长度、断裂能,起裂断裂韧度、失稳断裂韧度等。根据持载试件与伴随试件的对比,可分析荷载水平、持续时间、持载顺序对上述断裂参数的影响。(2)试验结果表明,不同工况的持续加载作用后,持载试件的起裂荷载较之伴随试件显著提高,起裂荷载提高程度与荷载水平呈正相关,但与持载时间无关。持载试件的峰值荷载较之伴随试件显著提高,峰值荷载提高程度与荷载水平和持载时间呈正相关。此外,荷载水平、持续时间、持载顺序对混凝土断裂能影响较小,持载试件的断裂能与伴随试件几乎相同。根据线弹性断裂理论计算了混凝土双K断裂韧度,分析了持载历史对混凝土双K断裂韧度的影响。不同工况的持续加载作用后,混凝土的起裂韧度有所提高,起裂韧度提高幅度与荷载水平呈正相关。尽管持载试件的峰值荷载提高,计算得到的失稳韧度降低。(3)持载试验得到裂缝口张开位移随时间发展曲线,并分析了持载历史对裂缝口张开位移影响。试件变形的增加导致中性轴的上移,进而导致试件底部的拉应力提高。

Improving beef hamburger quality and fatty acid profiles through dietary manipulation and exploitation of fat depot heterogeneity

Background： Hamburger is the most consumed beef product in North America, but lacks in nutritional appeal due to its high fat content and high proportion of saturated fatty acids （SFA）. Objectives of the present study were to improve the FA profiles of hamburgers made with perirenal fat （PRF） and subcutaneous fat （SCF） when feeding steers different diets along with examining differences in sensory attributes and oxidative stability. Diets included a control diet containing 70：30 red clover silage： barley based concentrate, a diet containing sunflower-seed （SS） substituted for barley, and diets containing SS with 15% wheat dried distillers＇ grain with solubles （DDGS-15） or 30% DDGS （DDGS-30）. Hamburgers were made from triceps brachii and either PRF or SCF （80：20 w/w）. Results： Perirenal fat versus SCF hamburgers FA had 14.3% more （P 〈0.05） 18：0, 11.8% less cis （c）9-18：1 （P 〈0.05）, and 1.82% more total trdns （t）-18：1 mainly in the form of tl 1-18：1. During sensory evaluation, PRF versus SCF hamburgers had greater （P 〈0.05） mouth coating, but the difference was less than one panel unit. Examining effects of steer diet within PRF hamburgers, feeding the SS compared to the control diet increased （P 〈0.05） t-18：1 by 2.89% mainly in the form of tl 1-18：1, feeding DGGS-15 diet led to no further changes （P 〉0.05）, but feeding DDGS-30 diet reduced the proportions of （P 〈0.05） of t-18：1 chiefly tl 1-18：1. Feeding SS and DDGS diets had small but significant （P 〈0.05） effects on hamburger sensory attributes and oxidative stability. Conclusions： Feeding high-forage diets including SS and 15% DDGS, and taking advantage of the FA heterogeneity between fat depots offers an opportunity to differentially enhance beef hamburgers with 18：2n-6 biohydrogenation products （Le., t11-18：1） with potential human health benefits without compromising their sensory attributes and oxidative stability during retail display.

本研究采用微分变换法和Akbari-Ganji法,研究了施加均匀磁场对纳米流体在两个无限平行板间流动的自然对流传热的影响。在得到控制方程并在特定边界条件下求解问题后,研究了Prandtl数、挤压次数、Schmidt数、Hartmann数、Eckert数、布朗运动参数和热电泳参数等主要参数的影响。将相似变换用于求解常微分方程组,并与Rung-Kutta四阶数值法进行对比。研究结果表明,增加挤压次数会导致速度减慢,增加Hartman数也有类似的影响。此外,温度随着Hartman数、Eckert数和热电泳参数的增大而升高,且与Prandtl数成正比。我们对比研究了Akbari-Ganji法和微分变换法求解非线性微分方程,结果表明,前者需要的计算步骤更少和计算时间更短,是一种更有效的方法。使用建议的方法获得的解与文献中的解一致。这些结果有助于研究人员更快、更容易地进行分析,并为纳米流体在电磁场存在下流动的复杂行为提供重要见解。
