Colorectal cancer(CRC)is the third most frequently diagnosed cancer worldwide,responsible for over 880000 deaths each ***/differentiation factor 15(GDF-15)is reported to be a promising diagnostic and prognostic factor in *** induces pleiotropic effects in tumor cells:proliferation,sternness,invasion and *** studies indicate that GDF-15 may stimulate angiogenesis in malignant ***,it has not been investigated in CRC *** aim of our study was to determine the level of GDF-15 and the concentrations of hypoxia-inducible factor-la(HIF-1α),VEGF-A and chemokine-like receptor 1(CMKLR1)in tumor and margin specimens of CRC in relation to histological grade and TNM *** study comprised 33 samples of tumor and margin tissues obtained from CRC *** assess the concentration of GDF-15,HIF-1α,VEGF-A and CMKLR1,commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)kits were *** found significantly increased levels of GDF-15 and CMKLR1 in tumor tissue compared to margin tissue and higher concentrations of HIF-1α and VEGF-A in margin tissue than in tumor *** levels of GDF-15 and HIF-1α were significantly correlated with VEGF-A and CMKLR1 in margin *** CRC,the increased level of GDF-15 might stimulate angiogenesis through upregulation of HIF-1α,VEGF A and CMKLR1 *** study is the first one to reveal the correlation between the levels of GDF-15 and CMKLR1 in *** elevated levels of HIF-1α and VEGF-A in tumor-free margin tissues suggest that noncancer cells in the tumor microenvironment are an important source of proangiogenic factors.

Unveiling the silent crisis:global burden of suicide‑related deaths among children aged 10–14 years

Over the past decade,the presence of mistletoe(Viscum album ***)in Scots pine stands has increased in many European *** the factors that influence the occurrence of mistletoe in stands is key to making appropriate forest management decisions to limit damage and prevent the spread of mistletoe in the ***,the main objective of this study was to determine the probability of mistletoe occurrence in Scots pine stands in relation to stand-related endogenous factors such as age,top height,and stand density,as well as topographic and edaphic *** used unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)imagery from 2,247 stands to detect mistletoe in Scots pine stands,while majority stand and site characteristics were calculated from airborne laser scanning(ALS)*** on stand age and site type from the State Forest database were also *** found that mistletoe infestation in Scots pine stands is influenced by stand and site *** documented that the densest,tallest,and oldest stands were more susceptible to mistletoe *** type and specific microsite conditions associated with topography were also important factors driving mistletoe *** addition,climatic water balance was a significant factor in increasing the probability of mistletoe occurrence,which is important in the context of predicted temperature increases associated with climate *** results are important for better understanding patterns of mistletoe infestation and ecosystem functioning under climate *** an era of climate change and technological development,the use of remote sensing methods to determine the risk of mistletoe infestation can be a very useful tool for managing forest ecosystems to maintain forest sustainability and prevent forest disturbance.

Numerical Optimization by Finite Element Method of Stainless Steel/Glass-Epoxy Composite Bolted Joint under Tension and Compression

The aim of this study was to optimize the geometry and the design of metallic/composite single bolted joints subjected to tension-compression loading. For this purpose, it was necessary to evaluate the stress state in each component of the bolted join. The multi-material assembly was based on the principle of double lap bolted joint. It was composed of a symmetrical balanced woven glass-epoxy composite material plate fastened to two stainless sheets using a stainless pre-stressed bolt. In order to optimize the design and the geometry of the assembly, ten configurations were proposed and studied: a classical simple bolted joint, two joints with an insert (a BigHeadR insert and a stair one) embedded in the composite, two “waved” solutions, three symmetrical configurations composed of a succession of metallic and composites layers, without a sleeve, with one and with two sleeves, and two non-symmetrical constituted of metallic and composites layers associated with a stair-insert (one with a sleeve and one without). A tridimensional Finite Element Method (FEM) was used to model each configuration mentioned above. The FE models taked into account the different materials, the effects of contact between the different sheets of the assembly and the pre-stress in the bolt. The stress state was analyzed in the composite part. The concept of stress concentration factor was used in order to evaluate the stress increase in the highly stressed regions and to compare the ten configurations studied. For this purpose, three stress concentration factors were defined: one for a monotonic loading in tension, another for a monotonic loading in compression, and the third for a tension-compression cyclic loading. The results of the FEM computations showed that the use of alternative metallic and composite layers associated with two sleeves gived low values of stress concentration factors, smaller than 1.4. In this paper we prove the existence and uniqueness of a weak solution for a dynamic electo-viscoetastic problem that describes a contact between a body and a foundation. We assume the body is made from thermoviscoelastic material and consider nonmonotone boundary conditions for the contact. We use recent results from the theory of hemivariational inequalities and the fixed point theory.

Affine Planar Geodesic Immersions with Maximal Codimension

This work gives a classification theorem for affine immersions with planar geodesics in the case where the codimension is maximal. Vrancken classified parallel affine immersions in this case and obtained, among others, generalized Veronese submanifolds. In this work it is shown that the immersions with planar geodesics are the same as the parallel ones in the considered case. A geometric interpretation of parallel immersions is also given： The affine immersions with pointwise planar normal sections （with respect to the equiaffine transversal bundle） are parallel. This result is verified for surfaces in R4 and for immersions with the maximal codimension.

The ETS, edited by the world famous expert in field of Thermal Stresses – Professor Richard Hetnarski from Rochester Institute of Technology, was published by Springer in 2014. This unique Encyclopedia, subdivided into 11 volumes is the most extensive and comprehensive work related to the Thermal Stresses topic. The entries were carefully prepared by specialists in the field of thermal stresses, elasticity, heat conduction, optimization among others. The Polish authors' contribution within this work is significant; over 70 entries were prepared by them.

Thermal Analysis of Underground Power Cable System

The paper presents the application of Finite Element Method in thermal analysis of underground power cable system. The computations were performed for power cables buried in-line in the ground at a depth of 2 meters. The developed mathematical model allows determining the two-dimensional temperature distribution in the soil, thermal backfill and power cables. The simulations studied the effect of soil and cable backfill thermal conductivity on the maximum temperature of the cable conductor. Also, the effect of cable diameter on the temperature of cable core was studied. Numerical analyses were performed based on a program written in MATLAB.
