This paper presents a new low delay centralized cooperative spectrum sensing method based on dynamic voting rule using multiple threshold level,for indoor hospital environment,where fading and direct path loss both are together responsible for variation in signal *** the proposed algorithm,weights of Cognitive Radios(CRs)in terms of assigned votecount are estimated based on the sensed energy values with respect to multiple fixed threshold levels,so that the direct path loss can be dealt without further increasing the error,which occurs due to *** indoor hospital like environment,Rician fading model is more ***,formulation,evaluation and analysis of various sensing performance parameters have been carried out considering Rician fading *** analysis and tradeoff among three optimum parameters-energy threshold,total number of CRs participating in sensing and total error rate,are presented with respect to signal to noise ratio(SNR).Finally,the Monte Carlo simulation is designed and implemented considering the two conditions-only fading environment and fading along with direct path loss *** can be observed that in both cases,the proposed spectrum sensing rule outperforms the other contemporary rules.

An Improved Methodology to Overcome Key Issues in Human Fecal Metagenomic DNA Extraction

Microbes are ubiquitously distributed in nature, and recent culture-independent studies have highlighted the significance of gut microbiota in human health and disease. Fecal DNA is the primary source for the majority of human gut microbiome studies. However, further improvement is needed to obtain fecal metagenomic DNA with sufficient amount and good quality but low host genomic DNA contamination. In the current study, we demonstrate a quick, robust, unbiased, and cost-effective method for the isolation of high molecular weight （〉 23 kb） metagenomic DNA （260/280 ratio 〉 1.8） with a good yield （55.8 ± 3.8 ng/mg of feces）. We also confirm that there is very low human genomic DNA contamination （eubacterial： human genomic DNA marker genes = 227.9：1） in the human feces. The newly-developed method robustly performs for fresh as well as stored fecal samples as demonstrated by 16S rRNA gene sequencing using 454 FLX＋. Moreover, 16S rRNA gene analysis indicated that compared to other DNA extraction methods tested, the fecal metagenomic DNA isolated with current methodology retains species richness and does not show microbial diversity biases, which is further confirmed by qPCR with a known quantity of spike-in genomes. Overall, our data highlight a protocol with a balance between quality, amount, user-friendliness, and cost effectiveness for its suitability toward usage for cultureindependent analysis of the human gut microbiome, which provides a robust solution to overcome key issues associated with fecal metagenomic DNA isolation in human gut microbiome studies.

Barnyard millet(Echinochloa spp.) is one of the most underresearched crops with respect to characterization of genetic resources and genetic enhancement. A total of 95 germplasm lines representing global collection were evaluated in two rainy seasons at Almora,Uttarakhand, India for qualitative and quantitative traits and the data were subjected to multivariate analysis. High variation was observed for days to maturity, five-ear grain weight, and yield components. The first three principal component axes explained 73% of the total multivariate variation. Three major groups were detected by projection of the accessions on the first two principal components. The separation of accessions was based mainly on trait morphology. Almost all Indian and origin-unknown accessions grouped together to form an Echinochloa frumentacea group. Japanese accessions grouped together except for a few outliers to form an Echinochloa esculenta group. The third group contained accessions from Russia, Japan, Cameroon, and Egypt. They formed a separate group on the scatterplot and represented accessions with lower values for all traits except basal tiller number. The interrelationships between the traits indicated that accessions with tall plants, long and broad leaves, longer inflorescences, and greater numbers of racemes should be given priority as donors or parents in varietal development initiatives. Cluster analysis identified two main clusters based on agro-morphological characters.

This paper presents an approach for oscillation damping with an integrated multi-stage linear quadratic regulator(MSLQR)FACTS controller combining power oscillation damping(POD)*** particle swarm optimization(PSO)technique has been used for precise tuning initial control parameters of power system stabilizers(PSS)and FACTS devices(such as STATCOM and UPFC)which results in improved controller *** is observed that the proposed control structure damps the oscillations adequately and is modular in design *** sample power system comprising six areas is considered to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed *** states inter-relation which is shown with eigenvalues reflects better regulation with the proposed *** step response also validates the controller performance.

Triple tube drainage for “difficult” gastroduodenal perforations:A prospective study

AIMTo prospectively study the outcome of difficult gastroduodenal perforations (GDPs) treated by triple tube drainage (TTD) in order to standardize the *** presenting to a single surgical unit of a tertiary hospital with difficult GDPs (large, unfavourable local and systemic factors) were treated with TTD (gastrostomy, duodenostomy and feeding jejunostomy). Postoperative parameters were observed like time to return of bowel sounds, time to start enteral feeds, time to start oral feeds, daily output of all drains, time to clamping/removal of all drains, time for skin to heal, complications, hospital stay, and, mortality. Descriptive statistics were *** December 2013 and April 2015, 20 patients undergoing TTD for GDP were included, with mean age of 44.6 ± 19.8 years and male:female ratio of 17:3. Mean pre-operative APACHE II scores were 10.85 ± 3.55; most GDPs were prepyloric (9/20; 45%) or proximal duodenal (8/20; 40%) and mean size was 1.83 ± 0.59 cm (largest 2.5 cm). Median times of resumption of enteral feeding, removal of gastrostomy, removal of duodenostomy, removal of feeding jejunostomy and oral feeding were 4 d (4-5 IQR), 13 (12-16.5 IQR), 16 (16.25-22.25 IQR), 18 (16.5-24 IQR) and 12 d (10.75-18.5 IQR) respectively. Median hospital stay was 22 d (19-26 IQR) while mortality was 4/20 (20%).CONCLUSIONTTD for difficult GDP is feasible, easy in the emergency, and patients recover in two-three weeks. It obviates the need for technically demanding and riskier procedures.

In the era of antibiotic resistance,in silico prediction of bacterial resistome pro-files,likely to be associated with inactivation of new potential antibiotics is of utmost *** this,to the best of our knowledge,no tool exists for such ***,under the rationale that drugs with similar structures have similar resistome profiles,we devel-oped two models,a deterministic model and a stochastic model,to predict the bacterial re-sistome likely to neutralize uncharacterized but potential chemical *** current version of the tool involves the prediction of a resistome for Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas *** deterministic model on omitting two diverse but relatively less characterized drug classes,polyketides and polypeptides showed an accuracy of 87%,a sensitivity of 85%,and a precision of 89%,whereas the stochastic model predicted antibiotic classes of the test set compounds with an accuracy of 72%,a sensitivity of 75%,and a precision of 83%.The models have been implemented in both a standalone package and an online server,uCAREChemSuite-CLI and uCARE Chem Suite,*** addition to resistome prediction,the online version of the suite enables the user to visualize the chemical structure,classify compounds in 19 pre-defined drug classes,perform pairwise alignment,and cluster with database compounds using a graphical user interface.

Severe acute pancreatitis often leads to pancreatic and peripancreatic collections but,rarely,it can lead to collections at sites remote from the *** male patients presented with abdominal pain and inguinoscrotal *** were initially misdiagnosed with obstructed inguinal hernia,epididymo-orchitis and hydrocele,***,their diagnosis of acute pancreatitis was revealed on laparotomy in one patient and on computed tomography(CT)in the remaining two *** these cases had extensive peripancreatic necrosis and paracolic collections tracking along the psoas muscle,downwards towards the *** collections were initially managed by percutaneous drainage and saline irrigation as a part of the‘step-up’*** of these patients required open necrosectomy,while all required incision and drainage of inguinoscrotal *** the patients were discharged in satisfactory *** swelling is unusual as a first presentation of acute pancreatitis.A high index of suspicion,with careful study of patient’s history and examination along with CT,may provide an accurate *** drainage may be required to control sepsis and also provide an egress route for intra-abdominal collections.
