Genetic and epigenetic risks of intracytoplasmic sperm injection method

Pregnancies achieved by assisted reproduction technologies, particularly by intracytoplasmic sperm injection （ICSI） procedures, are susceptible to genetic risks inherent to the male population treated with ICSI and additional risks inherent to this innovative procedure. The documented, as well as the theoretical, risks are discussed in the present review study. These risks mainly represent thatconsequences of the genetic abnormalities underlying male subfertility （or infertility） and might become stimulators for the development of novel approaches and applications in the treatment of infertility. In addition, risks with a polygenic background appearing at birth as congenital anomalies and other theoretical or stochastic risks are discussed. Recent data suggest that assisted reproductive technology might also affect epigenetic characteristics of the male gamete, the female gamete, or might have an impact on early embryogenesis. It might be also associated with an increased risk for genomic imprinting abnormalities.

The most prevalent form of dementia in the elderly is Alzheimer＇s disease.A significant contributing factor to the progression of the disease appears to be the progressive accumulation of amyloid-β42（Aβ42）,a small hydrophobic ***,attempts to develop therapies targeting the accumulation of Aβ42 have not been successful to treat or even slow down the *** is possible that this failure is an indication that targeting downstream effects rather than the accumulation of the peptide itself might be a more effective *** accumulation of Aβ42 seems to affect various aspects of physiological cell *** this review,we provide an overview of the evidence that implicates Aβ42 in synaptic dysfunction,with a focus on how it contributes to defects in synaptic vesicle dynamics and neurotransmitter *** discuss data that provide new insights on the Aβ42 induced pathology of Alzheimer＇s disease and a more detailed understanding of its contribution to the synaptic deficiencies that are associated with the early stages of the *** the precise mechanisms that trigger synaptic dysfunction are still under investigation,the available data so far has enabled us to put forward a model that could be used as a guide to generate new therapeutic targets for pharmaceutical intervention.

Power quality monitoring and evaluation in power systems under non-stationary conditions using wavelet packet transform

The purpose of this paper is twofold:(i)to propose a methodology to accurately evaluate power quality indices,and(ii)to highlight the importance of power quality monitoring services at different voltage levels of three-phase power *** proposed methodology is based on wavelet packet transform(WPT)and is able to perform power quality analysis in three-phase power systems operating under stationary and non-stationary conditions,in the presence of both harmonics and *** test cases are examined:synthetic voltage and current waveforms including noise,simulated test systems,a modified IEEE 13-bus test feeder,as well as experimental *** obtained results in all cases demonstrate the accuracy and the effectiveness of the proposed WPT method and its superiority over fast Fourier transform to accurately evaluate power quality indices in case of non-stationary disturbances.

Rheumatoid arthritis（RA） is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease that primarily affects the lining of the synovial joints and is associated with progressive disability, premature death, and socioeconomic burdens. A better understanding of how the pathological mechanisms drive the deterioration of RA progress in individuals is urgently required in order to develop therapies that will effectively treat patients at each stage of the disease progress. Here we dissect the etiology and pathology at specific stages：（i） triggering,（ii） maturation,（iii） targeting, and（iv） fulminant stage, concomitant with hyperplastic synovium, cartilage damage, bone erosion, and systemic consequences. Modern pharmacologic therapies（including conventional, biological, and novel potential small molecule disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs） remain the mainstay of RA treatment and there has been significant progress toward achieving disease remission without joint deformity. Despite this, a significant proportion of RA patients do not effectively respond to the current therapies and thus new drugs are urgently required. This review discusses recent advances of our understanding of RA pathogenesis, disease modifying drugs, and provides perspectives on next generation therapeutics for RA.
