Contracted interlayer distance in graphene/sapphire heterostructure

Direct growth of graphene on insulators is expected to yield significant improvements in performance of graphene-based electronic and spintronic devices. In this study, we successfully reveal the atomic arrangement and electronic properties of a coherent heterostructure of single-layer graphene and α-Al2O3（0001）. The analysis of the atomic arrangement of single-layer graphene on α-Al2O3（0001） revealed an apparentcontradiction. The in-plane analysis shows that single-layer graphene grows not in a single-crystalline epitaxial manner, but rather in polycrystalline form, with two strongly pronounced preferred orientations. This suggests relatively weak interfacial interactions are operative. However, we demonstrate that unusually strong physical interactions between graphene and α-Al2O3（0001） exist, as evidenced by the small separation between the graphene and the α-Al2O3（0001） surface. The interfacial interaction is shown to be dominated by the electrostatic forces involved in the graphene n-system and the unsaturated electrons of the topmost O layer of α-Al2O3（0001）, rather than the van der Waals interactions. Such features causes graphene hole doping and enable the graphene to slide on the α-Al2O3（0001） surface with only a small energy barrier despite the strong interfacial interactions.

Optimization plays an effective role in various disciplines of science and *** problems should either be optimized using the appropriate method(i.e.,minimization or maximization).Optimization algorithms are one of the efficient and effective methods in providing quasioptimal solutions for these type of *** this study,a new algorithm called the Mutated Leader Algorithm(MLA)is *** main idea in the proposed MLA is to update the members of the algorithm population in the search space based on the guidance of a mutated *** addition to information about the best member of the population,themutated leader also contains information about the worst member of the population,as well as other normal members of the *** proposed MLA is mathematically modeled for implementation on optimization problems.A standard set consisting of twenty-three objective functions of different types of unimodal,fixed-dimensional multimodal,and high-dimensional multimodal is used to evaluate the ability of the proposed algorithm in ***,the results obtained from theMLA are compared with eight well-known *** results of optimization of objective functions show that the proposed MLA has a high ability to solve various optimization ***,the analysis and comparison of the performance of the proposed MLA against the eight compared algorithms indicates the superiority of the proposed algorithm and ability to provide more suitable quasi-optimal solutions.

＜正＞ Paper deals with automotive hybrid and power splitting drive. Well-tried DC power splitting drive used on express Czechoslovak Units is described. These units were in operation between 1936-1951 years. New idea to use a similar drive with AC machinery and power electronic converters is studied in Research Centre of Combustion Motors and Automobiles Josef Bozek. Mechanical characteristics and power flow in a physical model were calculated and efficiency were measured. Results will be published.

The Relief of Plasma Pressure and Generation of Field-Aligned Currents in the Magnetosphere

A combined action of plasma convection and pitch-angle diffusion of electrons and protons leads to the formation of plasma pressure distribution in the magnetosphere on the night side, and, as it is known, steady electric bulk currents are connected to distribution of gas pressure. The divergence of these bulk currents brings about a spatial distribution of field-aligned currents, i.e. magnetospheric sources of ionospheric current. The projection (mapping) of the plasma pressure relief onto the ionosphere corresponds to the form and position of the auroral oval. This projection, like the real oval, executes a motion with a change of the convection electric field, and expands with an enhancement of the field. Knowing the distribution (3D) of the plasma pressure we can determine the places of MHD-compressor and MHD-generators location in the magnetosphere. Unfortunately, direct observations of plasma distribution in the magnetosphere are faced with large difficulties, because pressure must be known everywhere in the plasma sheet at high resolution, which in situ satellites have been unable to provide. Modeling of distribution of plasma pressure (on ~ 3-12 Re) is very important, because the data from multisatellite magnetospheric missions for these purposes would be a very expensive project.

Simulation as a Support for Ultrasonic Testing

Ultrasonic testing is a very important non-destructive method for testing components for safety of nuclear power plants and other security and delicate parts in other industries. Nowadays, thanks to the development of computer technology, it is possible to simulate processes which occur during ultrasonic testing. That is why numerical simulations are becoming an integral part of non-destructive testing. Simulations are used to determine parameters of ultrasonic examination, especially parameters of probes and scan plan and also in the analysis of results. They are used in such cases, when it is necessary to verify applicability of probes and methods. This verification could be provided on the weld and test block which are not manufactured. It could be also provided on defects, which are not manufactured in test block, but their presence is possible in given weld joint. Simulations are very useful for verifying the propagation of ultrasonic signal in given area (e.g. weld area). If movement of probe is limited, possibility of whole volume scan should be verified.

Investigation results on linear and non-linear optical properties, damage threshold and potential efficiencies of biaxial negative LiInS2 crystal are represented. It shows that the crystal has phase-matching and group-velocity matching in wide spectral range for second harmonic, sum- and difference-frequency generation of visible, near and middle IR lasers. The possibilities of designing middle IR optical parametric oscillator (OPO) pumped by Nd:YAG and dye lasers and specially possibility of frequency conversion with 3 um range femtosecond erbium lasers are given.
