Germination strategies of annual and short-lived perennial species in the Arabian Desert

Germination timing is highly regulated in short-lived plant species since it strongly influences recruitment success of *** deserts,the spatiotemporal distribution of plant-available water is highly episodic and unpredictable,making winter months more favorable for seed germination when other abiotic conditions *** hypothesized that changes in photoperiod and thermoperiod would impact germination more in seeds that had undergone in situ *** assessed 21 annual and short-lived perennial species in the Arabian Desert to find(1)if seeds were dormant at maturity,(2)if in situ seed storage increased germination percentage compared with no storage,(3)if photoperiod and thermoperiod germination requirements were influenced by in situ storage,and(4)if a phylogenetic association in seed germination could be *** of each species collected in early 2017 were divided into two *** was tested for germination within one week(fresh seeds).The other was stored in situ at the maternal location(stored seeds)until October 2017 and tested for seed germination in the first week of *** germination was conducted in incubators at two thermoperiods(15℃/20℃ and 20℃/30℃;12 h/12 h),and two photoperiods(12 and 0 h light per day).results indicated that seed germination percentages of 13 species were significantly enhanced by in situ storage.A thermoperiod response was exhibited by stored,but not fresh *** exposure increased germination of fresh seeds but had only a minimal effect on stored *** traits exhibited no phylogenetic *** result indicated that selection pressure for germination strategy was stronger than that for taxonomic traits of these desert species.

Axillary recurrence after intramammary sentinel lymph nodes metastases with capsular extravasation

Axillary recurrence is a rare event in patients treated with sentinel lymph node biopsy alone with the majority occurring in the first 5 years after surgery. Intramammary lymph node (ImLN) can be the primary sites of metastasis and sentinel lymph nodes, but the clinical significance, including prognosis and therapeutic approach is yet unclear, even more with capsular extravasation. ImLN metastases are strongly correlated with axillary lymph nodes involvement and therefore a guide for further surgical management of the axillary nodes.

BACKGrOUND The hepatosplenic schistosomiasis(HSS)with portal hypertension can cause vascular complications such as hepatopulmonary syndrome(HPS).HPS increases the risk of mortality in patients with cirrhosis;however,there is no data on the mortality of patients with HSS and *** To perform a survival analysis of patients with HPS related to cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic(schistosomiasis)portal *** From August 2023 to January 2024,medical records and the official mortality information service of 121 patients who participated in a cross-sectional study on HPS between 2010 and 2012 were *** curves were created using the Kaplan-meier method,and comparisons were performed using the log-rank *** regression models estimated the hazard ratios(Hr).rESULTS Overall,data of 113 patients were analyzed;most(55.8%)had HSS and concomitant cirrhosis(HSS/cirrhosis).meanwhile,HPS was present in 39(34.5%)*** occurred in 65 patients[57.5%];95%confidence interval(CI):48%-67%.The average time to death was lower in those with HPS when compared to those without HPS(3.37 years vs 5.65 years;P=0.017).According to the cause of liver disease,patients with HSS/cirrhosis died earlier,and their risk of death was twice as high compared with patients with HSS without cirrhosis(Hr:2.17;95%CI:1.3-3.60;P=0.003).meanwhile,there were no differences when comparing the two groups with and without HPS(Hr:1.01;95%CI:0.59-1.73;P=0.967).CONCLUSION Patients with HSS and concomitant cirrhosis had a lower survival rate,but there was no difference in survival regardless of the presence of HPS.

Critical methodological challenges in the microbial biosensor approach to assessing Hg（II） bioavailability were evaluated from the perspective of analytical chemists. The main challenge stems from the fact that the chemical speciation of Hg（II） in natural waters exerts a major control on its bioavailability, yet its natural complexation equilibria are extensively altered during conventional bioassays. New data, obtained using a bioluminescent Hg（II）-biosensor, that illustrate these challenges are presented and potential solutions proposed.

Kinetic rates of the Fischer Tropsch Synthesis on a Co/Nb_2O_5 Catalyst

The kinetics of the Fischer-Tropsch reaction over a Co/Nb2O5 catalyst in a fixed bed reactor was investigated experimentally. Experiments were carried out under isothermal and isobaric conditions （T=543 K, P=2.1 mPa） and under different conditions of several H2/CO feed molar ratio （0.49-4.79）, space velocities （0.2-3.8 h^-1）, mass of catalyst （0.3-1.5 g）, and CO conversion （10%-29%）. Synthesis gas conversion was measured and data were reduced to estimate the kinetic parameters for different Langmuir-Hinshelwood rate expressions. Differential and integral reactor models were used for the nonlinear regression of kinetics parameters. One of the rate equations could well explain the data. The hydrocarbon product distributions that were experimentally determined exhibited an unusual behavior, and a possible explanation was discussed.
