Hematological reference values and animal welfare parameters of BALB/C-FMABC (Mus musculus) inoculated with Ehrlich tumor kept in the vivarium at ABC Medical School

Background:Biochemical and hematological parameters are important tools for assessing the physiological profile of vital organs,and can be recorded to create reference values used for clinical diagnosis of *** research laboratories lack the means to establish their own set of reference parameters for use in their research,and while there are articles in the literature that discuss laboratory parameters for healthy BALB/c mice,few studies address the evaluation of these parameters in pathological situations,such as in mice inoculated with Ehrlich ***:BALB/c-FMABC mice previously inoculated with Ehrlich tumor were maintained under appropriate *** samples were taken for analysis of hematological parameters using automated and semi-automated equipment to create a set of the animal welfare parameters for ***:Results were obtained for all the hematological parameters for all groups *** showed:statistically significant differences between the initial and final tumor weight;comparable initial tumour volume and weight;an increase in leukocytes in the 7-day group with a characteristic predominance of lymphocytes and neutrophils;statistically significant changes in RDW in the 21-day group and in the welfare parameters in the 28-day ***:The study successfully defined and established reference values for hematological and welfare parameters for all groups analyzed.

Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the ocular surface

BACKGROUND There have been increased reports of dry eyes in the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) pandemic *** To analyze the differences in tear film properties from pre-and post-pandemic of the COVID-19 *** It was a retrospective comparative *** were divided into three groups according to the data of multimodal ocular surface evaluation:(1) Group 1 if it was before Portugal lockdown decision(from August 2019 to March 2020);(2) Group 2 if it was after Portugal lockdown decision but without mask mandate(from April 2020 to October 2020);and(3) Group 3 if it was after Portugal lockdown but with mask mandate in health public highway(from November 2020 to April 2021).The following variables were analyzed:Lipid layer thickness,blink rate,Schirmer test,tear meniscus height,tear osmolarity,non-invasive break-up time,and loss area of the meibomian *** The study included 548 eyes of 274 patients,aged 18 years to 89 years,with a mean age of 66.15 ± 13.40 years at the time of multimodal ocular surface *** to group 1:(1) Mean lipid layer thickness was better in group 2(P = 0.001) and group 3(P < 0.001);(2) Schirmer test was similar in group 2(P = 0.576) and better in group 3(P = 0.002);(3) Tear osmolarity and loss area of the meibomian glands were worse in group 2(P = 0.031 and P < 0.001,respectively) and in group 3(both with P < 0.001);(4) Blink rate and tear meniscus height were similar in group 2(P = 0.821 and P = 0.370,respectively) and worse in group 3(P < 0.001 and P = 0.038,respectively);and(5) Non-invasive break-up time was worse in group 2(P = 0.030) and similar in group 3(P = 0.263).CONCLUSION Our study demonstrated that differences existed in tear film properties comparing data from the pre-and post-pandemic of the COVID-19 era.

From the Current Industrial Stage to the Industry 4.0： Transformation Processes and Case Analysis of the FESTO Company

Despite of the acceleration of investments and the expansion of countries towards the Industry 4.0, companies have difficulties in planning the transition processes and implementation of the scenarios of Industry 4.0. To benefit from the Industry Approach 4.0, it is necessary to take technological and organizational transition processes into account, since the phenomenon involves interoperability between humans; between humans and machines; and between machines and production. This paper proposes to examine the transformation processes of the current industrial model to the Industry 4.0 model of FESTO AG, in addition to the framework proposition for the analysis of transformation processes for Industry 4.0. Through the face-to-face interviews and the institutional materials of FESTO, it was observed that the company inserted in its strategy of products and innovation the concept of Industry 4.0. To do so, FESTO planned and built a new production plant based on connectivity, sustainability, and collaborative environment, especially between man and machine. To support this orientation, FESTO has strengthened its technological base, culture, training of its productive, commercial, and management teams.

This study aimed to evaluate the features related to consumers’ reading nutritional labels in a city in the interior of the São paulo State, Brazil. A questionnaire was answered by 100 consumers of a supermarket chain, sociodemographic information and data related to label reading habits were collected. Tables with percentage values and bar graphs were used. Chi-square tests and logistic regression models were performed to verify the association between the variables and the label reading habits. The factors that showed significant associations with the reading labels were gender, ease to understand the labels and access to their information (p 0.10). People who had already read labels reported to have more difficulty to understand the information contained on them, and people who had already received instructions on the labels were three and a half times more likely to read the instructions contained on them than those who hadn’t received any guidance. This study points to the need to expand the disclosure to consumers about the contents present on the labels, through more accessible language, so that the labels fulfill their role to instruct consumers in their choices.

INTRODUCTION Seed dispersal is a key process in the life cycle of most plants,with ecological and evolutionary consequences that go beyond vegetation dynamics and cascade to entire ecosystem functioning and stability(Traveset et al.2014).Seed dispersal largely constrains plant recruitment and the distribution of future plant cohorts,thus playing a critical role in the restoration of disturbed sites(Cain et al.2000;Higgins et al.2003).It can also threaten plant diversity by facilitating plant invasions(Vavra et al.2007;Heleno 2020).

Immunohistochemistry panel segregates molecular types of hepatocellular carcinoma in Brazilian autopsy cases

AIM: To assess the distribution of proteins coded by genes reported as relevant for the molecular classification of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).METHODS: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, the following clinicopathological data were analyzed in 80 autopsied HCC patients: sex, age, ethnicity, alcohol intake, infection with hepatitis B and/or C virus, infection with human immunodeficiency virus, prior treatment, basic and immediate causes of death, liver weight, presence of cirrhosis, number and size of nodules, gross pattern, histological grade and variants, architectural pattern, invasion of large veins, and presence and location of extrahepatic metastases. The protein products of genes known to be involved in molecular pathogenesis of HCC, including epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), MET, keratin 19 (K19), vimentin, beta-catenin, mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR), extracellular signaling-related kinase (ERK)1, ERK2, Ki67, cyclin D1, caspase 3 and p53, were detected by immunohistochemistry on tissue microarrays. The expression levels were scored and statistically assessed for correlation with HCC ***: Infection with hepatitis C virus was identified in 49% of the 80 autopsy patients, cirrhosis in 90%, advanced tumors in 95%, and extrahepatic metastases in 38%. Expression of K19, p53 and ERK1 correlated to high-grade lesions. Expression of ERK1, nuclear beta-catenin, cyclin D1 and ERK2 correlated to higher rates of cell proliferation as determined by Ki67. Expression of MET, EGFR (> 0) and caspase 3 correlated with lower histological grades. Expression of EGFR correlated to that of caspase 3, and overexpression of EGFR (≥ 200/300) was observed in low-grade tumors more frequently (grades 1 and 2: 67% vs grade 3: 27% and grade 4: 30%). Expression of ERK1 was associated with that of K19 and vimentin, whereas expression of ERK2 was associated with that of cyclin D1, MET and membrane beta-catenin. Expression of vimentin

One Pr（Ⅲ） lanthanide ion complex was initially synthesized and characterized by TGA-DSC in air atmosphere, as well as characterized by CHN elemental analysis, defining the stoichiometric ratio as Pr（DMBz）3. The gaseous products evolved during the thermal decomposition were also monitored in N2 atmosphere employing TGA/FT-IR system. A crystal structure is obtained by state-of-the-art powder X-rays diffraction methods measured in conventional laboratory equipment and refined by the Rietveld method, which defined it as a monoclinic system of the space group P21/C with a polymeric crystal structure, [Pr（DMBZ）3]n. FT-IR theoretical spectrum and time-dependent density functional theory（TD-DFT） were calculated from TGA-DSC and crystalline system data. The experimental and theoretical FT-IR spectra present a high correlation degree when the main stretching bands are compared, while the energy transfer（HOMO - LUMO） in their neighborhoods suggests the main contributions of the light-emitting states.

Juvenile hemochromatosis:HAMP mutation and severe iron overload treated with phlebotomies and deferasirox

Juvenile hemochromatosis(JH) is a rare condition classified as an autosomal recessive disorder that leads to severe iron absorption. JH usually affects people under the age of 30 and presents symptoms such as chronic liver damage,hypogonadotropic hypogonadism,cardiac diseases and endocrine dysfunctions. The present case reports a 29-year-old Brazilian woman with JH condition due to HAMP mutation(g.47G>A),treated with phlebotomies and deferasirox. She presented symptoms such as weakness,skin hyperpigmentation,joint pain in the shoulders and hands and amenorrhea. First laboratory tests showed altered biochemical parameters [serum ferritin(SF): 5696 ng/mL,transferrin saturation(TS): 85%]. After sessions of phlebotomies(450 mL every 15 d),the patient presented partial symptomatic improvements and biochemical parameters(SF: 1000 ng/mL,Hb: 11 g/dL). One year later,deferasirox(15 mg/kg per day) was introduced to the treatment,and the patient showed total symptomatic improvement,with significant clearing of the skin,SF: 169 ng/mL,and TS: 50%. Furthermore,after the combined deferasirox-phlebotomy therapy,magnetic resonance imaging measurements revealed normalized level for liver iron(30 μmol/g; reference value < 36 μmol/g). In conclusion,combined deferasirox-phlebotomy treatment was able to normalize iron levels and improve symptoms.

An invariant descriptor for conjugate forced convection-conduction cooling of 3D protruding heaters in channel flow

In this research, the temperatures of three- dimensional （3D） protruding heaters mounted on a conductive substrate in a horizontal rectangular channel with laminar airflow are related to the independent power dissipation in each heater by using a matrix G＋ with invariant coefficients, which are dimensionless. These coefficients are defined in this study as the conjugate influence coefficients （g＋） caused by the forced convec- tion-conduction nature of the heaters＇ cooling process. The temperature increase of each heater in the channel is quantified to clearly identify the contributions attributed to the self-heating and power dissipation in the other heaters （both upstream and downstream）. The conjugate coefficients are invariant with the heat generation rate in the array of heaters when assuming a defined geometry, invariable fluid and flow rate, and constant substrate and heater conductivities. The results are numerically obtained by considering three 3D protruding heaters on a twodimensional （2D） array by ANSYS/FluentTM 15.0 software. The conservation equations are solved by a coupled procedure within a single calculation domain comprising of solid and fluid regions and by considering a steady state laminar airflow with constant properties. Some examples are shown, indicating the effects of substrate thermal conductivity and Reynolds number on conjugate influence coefficients.
