A deep feed-forward neural network for damage detection in functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite plates using modal kinetic energy

This paper proposes a new Deep Feed-forward Neural Network(DFNN)approach for damage detection in functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite(FG-CNTRC)*** the proposed approach,the DFNN model is developed based on a data set containing 20000 samples of damage scenarios,obtained via finite element(FE)simulation,of the FG-CNTRC *** elemental modal kinetic energy(MKE)values,calculated from natural frequencies and translational nodal displacements of the structures,are utilized as input of the DFNN model while the damage locations and corresponding severities are considered as *** state-of-the art Exponential Linear Units(ELU)activation function and the Adamax algorithm are employed to train the DFNN ***,in order to enhance the performance of the DFNN model,the mini-batch and early-stopping techniques are applied to the training process.A trial-and-error procedure is implemented to determine suitable parameters of the network such as the number of hidden layers and the number of neurons in each *** accuracy and capability of the proposed DFNN model are illustrated through two distinct configurations of the CNT-fibers constituting the FG-CNTRC plates including uniform distribution(UD)and functionally graded-v distribution(FG-vD).Furthermore,the performance and stability of the DFNN model with the consideration of noise effects on the input data are also *** results indicate that the proposed DFNN model is able to give sufficiently accurate damage detection outcomes for the FG-CNTRC plates for both cases of noise-free and noise-influenced data.

Temperature sensitivity of respiration of forest soils is important for its responses to climate warming and for the accurate assessment of soil carbon budget. The sensitivity of temperature (T_(i)) to soil respiration rate (R_(s)), and q_(10) defined by e^(10(lnRs−lna)/Ti) has been used extensively for indicating the sensitivity of soil respiration. The soil respiration under a larch (Larix gmelinii) forest in the northern Daxing’an Mountains, Northeast China was observed in situ from April to September, 2019 using the dynamic chamber method. Air temperatures (T_(air)), soil surface temperatures (T_(0cm)), soil temperatures at depths of 5 and 10 cm (T_(5cm) and T_(10cm), respectively), and soil-surface water vapor concentrations were monitored at the same time. The results show a significant monthly variability in soil respiration rate in the growing season (April–September). The q_(10) at the surface and at depths of 5 and 10 cm was estimated at 5.6, 6.3, and 7.2, respectively. The q_(10@10 cm) over the period of surface soil thawing (q_(10@10 cm, thaw) = 36.89) were significantly higher than that of the growing season (q_(10@10 cm, growth )= 3.82). Furthermore, the Rs in the early stage of near-surface soil thawing and in the middle of the growing season is more sensitive to changes in soil temperatures. Soil temperature is thus the dominant factor for season variations in soil respiration, but rainfall is the main controller for short-term fluctuations in respiration. Thus, the higher sensitivity of soil respiration to temperature (q_(10)) is found in the middle part of the growing season. The monthly and seasonal q_(10) values better reflect the responsiveness of soil respiration to changes in hydrometeorology and ground freeze-thaw processes. This study may help assess the stability of the soil carbon pool and strength of carbon fluxes in the larch forested permafrost regions in the northern Daxing’an Mountains.

We have investigated dielectric properties of aromatic polythiourea(ArPTU,a polar polymer containing high dipolar moments with very low defect levels)thin films that were developed on Pt/SiO_(2) *** detected response is compared to the response of commercially available polymers,such as high density polyethylene(HDPE)and polypropylene(PP),which are at present used in foil *** values of the dielectric constantε'≈5(being twice higher than in HDPE and PP)over broad temperature and frequency ranges and dielectric losses as low as in commercial systems suggest ArPTU as a promising candidate for future use in a variety of applications.

Influence of Coolant in Machinability of Titanium Alloy (Ti-6Al-4v)

Application of titanium alloy has increased many fields since the past 50 years. The major drawback encountered during machining was difficult to cut and the formation of BUE (Built up Edge). This paper presents the tool wear study of TTI 15 ceramic insert (80% Aluminum oxide and 20 % Titanium carbide) on machining Ti-6Al-4v at moderate speed with and without the application of water soluble servo cut S coolant. Titanium alloy is highly refractory metal and machining titanium is challenging to the manufacturers. Experiments were carried out on medium duty lathe. Application of coolant tends to reduce toolwear and minimize adhesion of the work material on the cutting tool during machining and also improves the surface finish. Result provides some useful information.

Flexural-gravity wave resistances due to a surface-moving line source on a fluid covered by a thin elastic plate

Analytical solutions for the flexural-gravity wave resistances due to a line source steadily moving on the surface of an infinitely deep fluid are investigated within the framework of the linear po- tential theory. The homogenous fluid, covered by a thin elastic plate, is assumed to be incompressible and inviscid, and the motion to be irrotational. The solution in integral form for the wave resistance is obtained by means of the Fourier transform and the explicitly analytical solutions are derived with the aid of the residue theorem. The dispersion relation shows that there is a minimal phase speed cmin, a threshold for the existence of the wave resistance. No wave is generated when the moving speed of the source v is less than emin while the wave resistances firstly increase to their peak values and then decrease when v ~〉 Crnin. BACKGROUND Achalasia is a rare benign esophageal motor disorder characterized by incomplete relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter(LES). The treatment of achalasia is not curative, but rather is aimed at reducing LES pressure. In patients who have failed noninvasive therapy, surgery should be considered. Myotomy with partial fundoplication has been considered the first-line treatment for non-advanced achalasia. Recently, peroral endoscopic myotomy(POEM), a technique that employs the principles of submucosal endoscopy to perform the equivalent of a surgical myotomy,has emerged as a promising minimally invasive technique for the management of this *** To compare POEM and laparoscopic myotomy and partial fundoplication(LM-PF) regarding their efficacy and outcomes for the treatment of *** Forty treatment-naive adult patients who had been diagnosed with achalasia based on clinical and manometric criteria(dysphagia score ≥ II and Eckardt score > 3) were randomized to undergo either LM-PF or POEM. The outcome measures were anesthesia time, procedure time, symptom improvement, reflux esophagitis(as determined with the Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease questionnaire), barium column height at 1 and 5 min(on a barium esophagogram), pressure at the LES, the occurrence of adverse events(AEs), length of stay(LOS), and quality of life(qoL).RESULTS There were no statistically significant differences between the LM-PF and POEM groups regarding symptom improvement at 1, 6, and 12 mo of follow-up(P = 0.192, P = 0.242, and P = 0.242, respectively). However, the rates of reflux esophagitis at 1, 6, and 12 mo of follow-up were significantly higher in the POEM group(P = 0.014, P vely). There were also no statistical differences regarding the manometry values, the occurrence of AEs, or LOS.
