Association between Helicobacterpylori, Epstein-Barr virus, human papillomavirus and gastric adenocarcinomas

AIM TO correlate Helicobacter pylori （H. pylorli）, EpsteinBarr virus （EBV） and human papillomavirus （HPV） with gastric cancer （GC） cases in Para State, *** Tissue samples were obtained from 302 gastric adenocarcinomas. A rapid urease test was used to detect the presence of H. pylori, and the presence of the cagA gene in the HP-positive samples was confirmed by PCr. An rNA in situ hybridization test designed to complement Eberl rNA was used to detect the presence of EBV in the samples, and the L1 region of HPV was detected using nested PCr. Positive HPV samples were genotyped and analyzed for E6 and E7 viral gene expression. Infections were also correlated with the clinical and pathological characteristics of the *** The majority of the 302 samples analyzed were obtained from men （65%） aged 55 years or older （67%） and were classified as the intestinal subtype （55%）. All three pathogens were found in the samples analyzed in the present study （H. pylori： 87%, EBV： 20%, HPV： 3%）. Overall, 78% of the H. pylori-positive （H. pylorl＋） samples were cagA＋（H. pylori-cagA＋）, and there was an association between the cytotoxic product of this gene and EBV. Coinfections of H. pylori-cagA＋ and EBV were correlated with the most advanced tumor stages. Although only 20% of the tumors were positive for EBV, infection with this virus was associated with distant metastasis. Only the HPV 16 and 18 strains were found in the samples, although no expression of the E6 and E7 oncoproteins was detected. The fundus of the stomach was the region least affected by the *** HPV was not involved in gastric tumorigenesis. Prophy- lactic and therapeutic measures against H. pylori and EBV may prevent the development of GC, especially the more aggressive forms.

Developing an integrated urban ecological efficiency framework for spatial ecological planning:A case on a tropical mega metropolitan area of the global south

rapid urbanization has emerged as one of the most critical challenges to ecological sustainability in urban *** developing countries,the degradation of the ecosystem is more prominent due to the lack of urban ***,it has become urgent for researchers to identify the ecological efficiency(EE)changes imposed by urban expansion and promote sustainable land use *** study aims to develop a comprehensive urban ecological efficiency(UEE)framework in the Kolkata Metropolitan Area(KMA),India,from 2000 to *** component analysis(PCA)was used to develop a remote sensing-based UEE index(UEEI)based on five effective ecological parameters(Greenness,Dryness,Heat,Wetness and vegetation health.A single sensitivity parameter was also calculated to determine the role of a single parameter based on which management strategies can be carried *** findings showed that(i)there were substantial deteriorations of UEE in the last 20 *** 2000 the areas with good EE were about 65.5%which declined to 53.72%in 2010 and 20.87%in *** areas with good UEE decreased 68%and 61%from 2000 to 2020 and 2010 to 2020,respectively;(ii)the areas with good UEE were 52%in 2000,while 38%in *** urban centres(Bhadreshwar,Champdani,Srirampur,Bally,Howrah,Kamarhati,Baranagar,Dum Dum,South Dum Dum,rajarhat,Bidhannagar)located around the Kolkata megacity are characterized by poor and very poor EE(ranges of 0.60-1.00).Thus,spatiotemporal pattern of UEE could assist to clarify the administrative responsibilities as well as *** addition to this,the UEE framework can help for scientific guidance of urban ecosystem protection and restoration through comprehensive spatial landscape planning.

Effect of pre-and post-wildfire management practices on plant recovery after a wildfire in Northeast Iberian Peninsula

fire and pre-or post-fire management practices shape the distribution and richness of plant ***,the effects of pre-and post-fire management on vegetation recovery were studied at different times,up to 18 months after a *** months after a 2015 wildfire,18 study plots were established(three 4-m^2 plots for each treatment),vegetation regrowth was monitored and vegetal species richness(S),evenness(IT),density(D),diversity(H0)and maximum diversity(HMax)after 2,10 and 18 *** treatments were(1)control,unaffected by 2015 wildfire;(2)no treatment(NT),burned in 2015 wildfire and not managed;(3)managed in 2005 and burned in 2015(M05B);(4)managed in 2015,2 months before wildfire(M15B);(5)cut and manual removal after the 2015 wildfire(Cr);(6)cut and no trunk removal randomly deposited on topsoil after the 2015 wildfire(CL).All the treatments were carried out in a Pinus halepensis Miller *** 10 and 18 months after the wildfire,vegetation recovery was greater in NT,Cr and CL plots than in M05B and M15B the *** 18 months after the wildfire,Brachypodium retusum(Pers.)*** rosmarinus officinalis *** still dominant,especially in M15B,corroborating the belief that pre-fire treatment reduced ecosystem resilience and vegetal recovery compared to the NT and post-fire managed *** was significantly lower 10 months after wildfire in control plots,and IT was significantly higher in that inventory than previously in *** months after the wildfire,H0 was significantly lower in *** months post-wildfire,HMax was significantly lower in the control *** months after the wildfire,HMax,was significantly higher in Cr,CL and M05B than in the control and M15B ***,pre-fire management was detrimental to post-fire vegetation recovery,while manual post-fire management proved beneficial.

3D Photo-fabrication for Tissue Engineering and Drug Delivery

The most promising strategies in tissue engineering involve the integration of a triad of biomaterials, living cells, and biologically active molecules to engineer synthetic environments that closely mimic the healing milieu present in human tissues, and that stimulate tissue repair and regeneration. To be clinically effective, these environments must replicate, as closely as possible, the main characteristics of the native extracellular matrix(ECM) on a cellular and subcellular scale. Photo-fabrication techniques have already been used to generate 3D environments with precise architectures and heterogeneous composition, through a multi-layer procedure involving the selective photocrosslinking reaction of a light-sensitive prepolymer. Cells and therapeutic molecules can be included in the initial hydrogel precursor solution, and processed into 3D constructs. recently, photofabrication has also been explored to dynamically modulate hydrogel features in real time, providing enhanced control of cell fate and delivery of bioactive compounds. This paper focuses on the use of 3D photo-fabrication techniques to produce advanced constructs for tissue regeneration and drug delivery applications. State-of-the-art photo-fabrication techniques are described, with emphasis on the operating principles and biofabrication strategies to create spatially controlled patterns of cells and bioactive factors. Considering its fast processing, spatiotemporal control, high resolution, and accuracy, photo-fabrication is assuming a critical role in the design of sophisticated 3D constructs. This technology is capable of providing appropriate environments for tissue regeneration, and regulating the spatiotemporal delivery of therapeutics.

Critical bone defects are considered one of the major clinical challenges in reconstructive bone *** combination of 3D printed conductive scaffolds and exogenous electrical stimulation(ES)is a potential favorable approach for bone tissue *** this study,3D conductive scaffolds made with biocompatible and biodegradable polycaprolactone(PCL)and multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs)were produced using the extrusion-based additive manufacturing to treat large calvary bone defects in *** results show that the use of PCL/MWCNTs scaffolds and ES contributes to thicker and increased bone tissue formation within the bone *** and mineralization are also significantly promoted using high concentration of MWCNTs(3 wt%)and ***,scaffolds favor the tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase(TrAP)positive cell formation,while the addition of MWCNTs seems to inhibit the osteoclastogenesis but present limited effects on the osteoclast functionalities(receptor activator of nuclear factor κβ ligand(rANKL)and osteoprotegerin(OPG)expressions).The use of ES promotes the osteoclastogenesis and rANKL expressions,showing a dominant effect in the bone remodeling *** results indicate that the combination of 3D printed conductive PCL/MWCNTs scaffold and ES is a promising strategy to treat critical bone defects and provide a cue to establish an optimal protocol to use conductive scaffolds and ES for bone tissue engineering.

Long-term forest management after wildfire(Catalonia,NE Iberian Peninsula)

Studies of post-fire soil status in Mediterranean ecosystems are common;however,few have examined the effects of long-term forest management after a wildfire on physicochemical soil ***,we analyzed differences in soil properties attributable to long-term postfire management and assessed the sustainability of these management practices in relation to the soil *** study area is located in Odena in the northeast region of the Iberian Peninsula consisted of the control forest(burned more than 30 years ago),low density forest(LD;burned in a wildfire in 1986 and managed in 2005)and high density forest(HD;burned in a wildfire in 1986 and no managed).for soils from each plot,we measured soil water repellency,aggregate stability,total nitrogen(TN),soil organic matter(SOM),inorganic carbon(IC),pH,electrical conductivity,extractable calcium,magnesium,sodium,potassium(K),phosphorus,aluminum(Al),manganese(Mn),iron(fe),zinc,copper,boron,chrome,silicon and sulfur and calculated the ratios of C/N,Ca+Mg/(Na+K)^1/2,Ca/Al and Ca/*** differences were found in TN,IC,SOM,pH,K,Al,Mn,fe and C/N ratio(properties were found to have largely recovered their pre-fire *** were affected by the post-fire management practices implemented 20 years after the fire,as reflected in their respective physicochemical properties,so that soil properties at the control and LD sites are more similar today than those at the control and HD ***,sustainable forest management can overcome soil degradation in areas affected by wildfire in the medium-and long-term by improving soil properties.

The general use of smartphones assigns additional relevance to Qr codes as a privileged tool to the Internet of Things(IoT).Crucial for Qr codes is the evolution to IoT-connected smart tags with enhanced storage capacity and secure *** the concept of super-modules(s-modules)built from adjacent spatial multiplexed modules with regular geometrical shapes,assisted by colour multiplexing,we modelled and design a single Qr code with,at least,the triple storage capacity of an analogous size black/white Qr code,acting as a smart-tag ensuring restrict access and *** s-modules are printed using luminescent low-cost and eco-friendly inks based on organic-inorganic hybrids modified by lanthanides with multiplexed colour emission in the orthogonal rGB *** access to the restrict information is attained only under UV irradiation and encrypted for secure *** concept of active Qr codes for smart trackability and IoT was materialised through the development of a free friendly-user mobile app.

Intelligent negotiation model for ubiquitous group decision scenarios

Supporting group decision-making in ubiquitous contexts is a complex task that must deal with a large amount of factors to succeed. Here we propose an approach for an intelligent negotiation model to support the group decision-making process specifically designed for ubiquitous contexts. Our approach can be used by researchers that intend to include arguments, complex algorithms, and agents' modeling in a negotiation model. It uses a social networking logic due to the type of communication employed by the agents and it intends to support the ubiquitous group decision-making process in a similar way to the real process, which simultaneously preserves the amount and quality of intelligence generated in face-to-face meetings. We propose a new look into this problem by considering and defining strategies to deal with important points such as the type of attributes in the multicriterion problems, agents' reasoning, and intelligent dialogues.

Provisioning of Inter-Domain QoS-Aware Services

Cooperation among service providers, network providers, and access providers in the Internet allows the creation of new services to offer to customers that are in other domains, thus increasing revenue. However, the Internet heterogeneous environment, where each provider has its own policies, infrastructure and business goals, hinders the deployment of more advanced communication services. This paper presents a Quality of Service （QoS） for Inter-Domain Services （QIDS） model that allows inter-domain QoS-aware services to be defined, configured, and adapted in a dynamic and on-demand fashion, among service providers. This is accomplished by： 1） the use of a common communication channel （business layer） where service providers publish and search for services, and interact with each other to contract and manage these services; 2） the templates to specify the business and technical characteristics of the services; 3） the automatic composition of services using service dements （smaller services） a^cording to performance and service-specific QoS parameters; and 4） the creation and enforcement of configuration rules for the underlying infrastructure. A prototype was implemented to validate QIDS and performance tests were conducted on an inter-domain Border Gateway Protocol （BGP）/Multiprotocol Label Switching （MPLS） Virtual Private Network （VPN） scenario.
