r.pid ur.anization has emer.ed as one of the most cr.tical challenges to ecological sustainability in ur.an *** developing countr.es,the degr.dation of the ecosystem is mor. pr.minent due to the lack of ur.an ***,it has become ur.ent for.r.sear.her. to identify the ecological efficiency(EE)changes imposed by ur.an expansion and pr.mote sustainable land use *** study aims to develop a compr.hensive ur.an ecological efficiency(UEE)fr.mewor. in the Kolkata Metr.politan Ar.a(KMA),India,fr.m 2000 to *** component analysis(PCA)was used to develop a r.mote sensing-based UEE index(UEEI)based on five effective ecological par.meter.(Gr.enness,Dr.ness,Heat,Wetness and vegetation health.A single sensitivity par.meter.was also calculated to deter.ine the r.le of a single par.meter.based on which management str.tegies can be car.ied *** findings showed that(i)ther. wer. substantial deter.or.tions of UEE in the last 20 *** 2000 the ar.as with good EE wer. about 65.5%which declined to 53.72%in 2010 and 20.87%in *** ar.as with good UEE decr.ased 68%and 61%fr.m 2000 to 2020 and 2010 to 2020,r.spectively;(ii)the ar.as with good UEE wer. 52%in 2000,while 38%in *** ur.an centr.s(Bhadr.shwar.Champdani,Sr.r.mpur.Bally,Howr.h,Kamar.ati,Bar.nagar.Dum Dum,South Dum Dum,r.jar.at,Bidhannagar.located ar.und the Kolkata megacity ar. char.cter.zed by poor.and ver. poor.EE(r.nges of 0.60-1.00).Thus,spatiotempor.l patter. of UEE could assist to clar.fy the administr.tive r.sponsibilities as well as *** addition to this,the UEE fr.mewor. can help for.scientific guidance of ur.an ecosystem pr.tection and r.stor.tion thr.ugh compr.hensive spatial landscape planning.

Pavement and mix design r.pr.sent one of the key components within the life cycle of a r.ad infr.str.ctur., with links to political, economic, technical, societal and envir.nmental issues. r.cent r.sear.hes r.lated to the char.cter.stics of mater.als and associated behavior.models both for.mater.als and pavement, made it appr.pr.ate to consider.updating cur.ent pavement design methods, and especially in the USA this has alr.ady been in pr.cess while in Eur.pe uses of the methods developed in the ear.y 1970s. Thus, this paper.fir.tly pr.sents a br.ef histor.cal over.iew of pavement design methods, high- lighting ear.y limitations of old empir.cal methods. After.ar.s, Fr.nch, UK and Shell methods cur.ently in use in Eur.pe will be pr.sented, undeHining their.main components in ter.s of methodology, tr.ffic, climatic conditions and subgr.de. The asphalt mix design and modeling in Eur.pe ar. pr.sented with their.inclusion in the pavement design methods. Finally, the main challenges for.the development of a Eur.pean pavement design method ar. pr.sented as well as the r.cent r.sear.h developments that can be used for.that method.

This wor. aims to study the effect of the nutr.ent contents in the leaves of cor. on the incidence of Spodopter.fr.giper.a （Smith）（Lepidopter.： Noctuidae） and Dalbulus maidis （Delong ＆ Wolcott）（Homopter.： Cicadellidae）. The tr.atments wer. r.pr.sented by unfer.ilized cor. plants and cor. plants fer.ilized with 250 kg of the for.ulation 4-14-8 （N- P-K）＋ 100 kg of ammonium sulfate （AS）/ha and 500 kg of the for.ulation 4-14-8 （N-P-K）＋200 kg of AS/ha, ar.anged in r.ndomized blocks with four.r.plicates. Attacks by S. fr.giper.a and D. maidis wer. higher.as the nitr.gen, sulfur. calcium and copper.content in the leaves of cor. incr.ased. The effects of calcium and copper.found in this study wer. not consistent with that of lower.susceptibility associated with higher.levels of these nutr.ents mentioned in the liter.tur.. We believe that ther. was a cumulative effect of the nutr.ents altogether. building up a nutr.tiously better.vegetable which in tur. had less r.ser.e for.defense, or.that the content of both nutr.ents in the leaves wer. not high enough to induce such effects.
