Objective:Radical prostatectomy is the recommended treatment for localized prostate cancer;however,it is an invasive procedure that can leave serious morbidity.Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy was introduced with the aim of reducing postoperative morbidity and facilitating rapid recovery compared to the traditional Walsh’s open radical retropubic prostatectomy.Therefore,a protocol was developed to perform an open prostatectomy comparable to that performed by robotics,but without involving novel instrumentation.Methods:A total of 220 patients diagnosed with localized prostate cancer underwent radical prostatectomy.They were divided into two groups:anterograde technique(115 patients)and the retrograde method(105 patients).The study outcomes were observed 3 months after surgery.Results:No differences were found in terms of surgical time,hospital stay,and suction drainage.However,reduced bleeding was observed in the anterograde technique(p=0.0003),with rapid anastomosis duration(p=0.005).Among the patients,60.9% undergoing the anterograde technique were continent 3 months after surgery compared to 42.9%treated by the retrograde method(p=0.007).Additionally,fewer complications in terms of the number(p=0.007)and severity(p=0.0006)were observed in the anterograde technique.conclusion:The anterograde method displayed increased efficiency in reducing complications,compared to the retrograde technique.

We investigate the dynamical behavior of a symmetric linear coupling of three quadratic maps with exponential terms, and identify various interesting features as a function of two control parameters. In particular, we investigate the emergence of quasiperiodic states arising from Naimark-Sacker bifurcations of stable period-l, period-2, and period-3 orbits. We also investigate the multistability in the same coupling. Lyapunov exponents, parameter planes, phase space portraits, and bifurcation diagrams are used to investigate transitions from periodic to quasiperiodic states, from quasiperiodic to mode-locked states and to chaotic states, and from chaotic to hyperchaotic states.

Some two-dimensional parameter-space diagrams are numerically obtained by considering the largest Lyapunov exponent for a four-dimensional thirteen-parameter Hindmarsh-Rose neuron model.Several different parameter planes are considered,and it is shown that depending on the combination of parameters,a typical scenario can be preserved:for some choice of two parameters,the parameter plane presents a comb-shaped chaotic region embedded in a large periodic region.It is also shown that there exist regions close to these comb-shaped chaotic regions,separated by the comb teeth,organizing themselves in period-adding bifurcation cascades.

BAcKGROUND The existing literature suggests that exercise for cirrhotic patients is safe and favours significant improvement to their physical capacity.However,exercise training for this population and how to deliver activities,especially in severe stages of the disease and while waiting for a liver transplant(LT),remain undefined.AIM To review the existing exercise prescriptions for cirrhotic patients on the waiting list for LT,their results for frailty evolution and their effect on clinical outcomes.METHODS A systematic review was performed following the Preferred Reporting Review and Meta-Analysis guidelines and searching the PubMed,MEDLINE,and Scopus databases.The keyword“liver transplant”was used in combination with the free terms“frailty”and“exercise”for the literature review.clinical studies that evaluated the effect of a regular training program,independent of supervision or the duration or intensity of physical exercise,in cirrhotic patients on the waiting list for LT were reviewed.The data on safe physical activity prescriptions following Frequency,Intensity,Time,and Type recommendations were extracted and summarised.RESULTS Nine articles met the inclusion criteria for this review.Various instruments for frailty assessment were used,frequently in combination.Five studies prescribed physical activity for patients,one in-person and four to be performed remotely and unsupervised.The remaining four studies only used a self-report instrument to assess the level of physical activity.None reported adverse events related to exercise training.The exercise frequency mainly varied from daily to a minimum of twice per week.The intensity depended on frailty and included increasing levels of activity.The type of exercise was predominantly a combination of aerobic and resistance training.The duration of exercise varied from 4 to 12 wk.Three articles evaluated the effect of the exercise program on clinical outcomes,reporting a reduction in 90-d readmission rates post-transplant and improved frailty scores,as well as im

Information about extreme rainfall is lacking in regions of South America and Africa.This study attempts to fill this scientific gap by use of a gridded parameterization for the stochastic weather generator,cLIGEN,to map depth-duration-frequency(DDF)relationships.Analysis of 500-year point-scale precipitation time series generated at each grid point allowed maps of return period precipitation to be produced for a se-lection of sixteen durations ranging from 10-min to 1-year and for nine return periods from 2 to 500 years.The generalized extreme value(GEV)probability distribution was fitted for all durations,and given GEV quantiles,an interpolation method was applied to produce maps at 0.1° resolution that better resolve small-scale spatial climate gradients.In addition to uncertainties related to GEV fitting,this study quantifies prediction intervals based on ground validation.This validation was important for identifying biases in cLIGEN,although uncertainties were not always satisfactorily defined due to sampling design and other factors.For daily/multi-day durations,100 stations with daily observations and ≥50-year records were selected for validation against the 0.1° cLIGEN map series,resulting in a median and average absolute error of 13%and 16%,respectively.For sub-daily durations,prediction errors were larger overall.An analogy using available U.S.data established the degree of bias in cUGEN for sub-daily durations,and three records in Brazil with high temporal resolutions were used to confirm that applied bias adjustments resulted in error ranges similar to the daily/multi-day cases.This atlas is freely available for study of extreme precipitation.

We report some results indicating changes in the observed dynamics of the Rössler model under the influence of external sinusoidal forcing.By varying the control parameters of the external sinusoidal forcing,namely the amplitude and the angular frequency,we show,through numerical simulations which include parameter planes and Lyapunov exponents,that the external forcing can produce both chaos-order and order-chaos transitions.We also show that the sinusoidal forcing may generate hyperchaos.

Malignant cells upregulate distinct energy metabolism programs that support their proliferation,migration,and adaptation to the stressful tumor microenvironment(TME).Additionally,this exaggerated metabolic activity allows cancer cells to hijack essential nutrients and outcompete neighboring infiltrating immune cells,thereby impairing antitumor immunity.During recent years,there has been great interest in the field to understand the tumor-induced energy metabolism signals that regulate the function of immune cells in individuals with cancer.Accordingly,it is now well accepted that uncovering the mechanisms that instruct the metabolic behavior of cancer cells and tumor-associated immune cells is an indispensable strategy for the development of new approaches to overcome immune suppression in tumors.Thus,in this minireview,we briefly discuss the interaction between particular metabolic signaling pathways and immunosuppressive activity in different subsets of myeloid cells within the TME.Additionally,we illustrate potential central mechanisms controlling the metabolic reprogramming of myeloid cells in response to tumor-derived factors.

We study a pair of nonlinearly coupled identical chaotic sine square maps.More specifically,we investigate the chaos suppression associated with the variation of two parameters.Two-dimensional parameter-space regions where the chaotic dynamics of the individual chaotic sine square map is driven towards regular dynamics are delimited.Additionally,the dynamics of the coupled system is numerically characterized as the parameters are changed.

We investigate analytically and numerically the dynamics of the Rikitake system.The Routh–Hurwitz criterion is used to study the stability of the equilibrium points of the differential equation system model,as functions of two parameters.The dynamics of the model are numerically studied using diagrams that associate colors to the largest Lyapunov exponent value,in two-dimensional parameter spaces.Additionally,phase-space plots and bifurcation diagrams are used to distinguish periodic and chaotic attractors.

Establish a reliable rainfall-runoff relation capable of predicting runoff in ungauged basins is a matter of interest across the world for a long time and has been taking importance during the past decades.Regionalization approaches,hydrological models and machine learning techniques have been used to estimate runoff.However,returning some simplicity to the predictions might be necessary for practical uses.In this paper,we re-introduce c.E.Grunsky approach,developed in the early 1900s to predict runoff from values of precipitation on a two-equations system.Here,we analyze the Grunsky generalized method applied for 716 Brazilian catchments,on an interannual and monthly scales.First,we established the best method to find the rainfall-runoff relation coefficient for each catchment.Then,we evaluate the performance of the method on a local scale,i.e.,catchment by catchment.Lastly,we analyze the method of regionalization,by grouping the catchments into six hydrologically similar classes.For local scale,the Kling-Gupta Efficiency(KGE)values range from 0.87 to 0.93 on the interannual scale and is greater than 0.50 on the monthly scale.For the regionalized approach,KGE varies from 0.60 to 0.84 on an interannual scale.We also found suitable KGE values on a monthly scale,with more than 22%of catchments with KGE greater than 0.50,being the best performances in the Non-seasonal and Extremely-wet groups,and the worst performance in the Dry group.Our findings indicate that Grunsky approach is suitable to predict streamflow for Brazilian catchments on interannual and monthly scales.This simple and easy-to-use equation presents a reliable alternative to more complex methods to compute runoff by only using rainfall data.
