There is a growing worldwide interest in the potential of using existing buildings to generate their own energy as a way to alleviate problems related to the exhaustion of energy resources,environmental degradation and the constant increase in energy-related *** the distributed electricity generation solutions on the market today,wind energy can be a solution for many existing city buildings ***,the objective of this article is to investigate the economic viability of generating wind energy in a multifamily building located in Southern Brazil,(city of Passo Fundo),seeking to supply the condominium electric energy for the period of one year of consumption with a renewable *** this end,the energy demand of the condominium and the energy generation of the wind turbine were taken into account to calculate the economic viability of the *** results showed a positive NPV(net present value)demonstrating the economic feasibility of carrying out such an *** IRR(internal rate of return)was 15.22%and the return on investment(payback)occurs in 7.88 years.

Although any type or amount of physical exercise may reverse the cellular processes that lead to the aging,regular physical exercise can attenuate the decline in physical and functional abilities observed in ***,the most encouraged activities in gyms and clubs are resistance training,functional training,and *** main objective of this study was to compare the effects of the aforementioned exercises regarding muscle strength,flexibility,functional capability and quality of life of elderly *** divided 36 elderly women in four groups:Sedentary(S);Hydro-gymnastics(H);Functional Training(F);or Resistance Training(RT).The results reveal that the groups engaged in physical exercise showed a significant difference(pcises evaluated,resistance training practitioners have greater strength and better functional capability.

The work presents technologies of materials,energy and water management that can be used for sustainable buildings,reducing costs and environmental *** aim was to encourage the reduction of energy consumption,adequate water management and more sustainable material choices in new or existing *** this,a diagnosis of existing technologies and alternatives was carried out in the first stage of the *** second stage consisted of analyzing among the technologies and alternatives diagnosed from the methodology which can be applied in a fictitious case study of housing,its implementation and maintenance and viability analyzing,finally,environmental indicators,social and *** results showed that the best evaluated technologies/alternatives were in Energy:ventilation and natural light;in Water Management:double-action sanitary basin,flow restrictors,aerators with constant flow,and minicistern systems;and in Materials:bamboo,wood,soil-cement brick,earth,steel frame and wood frame,aggregate with ash from rice husks,aggregate with ash from sugarcane bagasse,glass,phase change materials,aggregate with residues of construction and demolition,Portland cement and cement with blast furnace slag;which can be used in the civil construction sector,and provide socio-environmental and economic benefits,encouraging new studies and its use for public/private buildings,aid in the elaboration of public policies to reduce costs and improve the quality of buildings.

Visceral leishmaniasis(VL) or kala-azar is a zoonosis caused by intracellular protozoa of the Leishmania genus and is transmitted to humans by the bite of phlebotomine sandflies. It particularly affects cells in the phagocytic mononuclear system, accompanied by disturbances of cellular and humoral immunity. VL is potentially fatal and is characterized by fever, hepatosplenomegaly, diarrhea, epistaxis, jaundice, anemia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, hypoalbuminemia and hyperglobulinemia. Diagnostic suspicion is based on epidemiological, clinical and laboratory data and isconfirmed by detecting the parasite in infected tissue. Splenic aspiration is the most sensitive method, followed by bone marrow aspiration(BMA) by sternal puncture, liver biopsy and lymph node aspiration; but, due to safety concerns, BMA is the most recommended method. VL is included as a target disease by players in drug research and development. Severe liver dysfunction associated with VL is uncommon. We report two VL cases in pregnant women from Bauru, Sao paulo state, Brazil, considered an endemic area. The first of them developed hepatic failure due to fulminant hepatitis. In both cases, BMA was unable to find the protozoan; thus, liver biopsy was the only means of making the diagnosis.

Measures such as residual feed intake(RFI)have been increasingly considered to select cattle with superior feed efficiency,as it is a characteristic of feed efficiency calculated as the difference between observed intake and estimated intake considering metabolic weight and the weight *** feed intake is obtained through the multiple regression equation of observed consumption on metabolic mean live weight and weight *** standard was shared among animals into one herd selected for low RFI(high efficiency)and compared to the one selected for high RFI(low efficiency).There was no correlated response in weight per year and in weight gain,and the effectiveness of low RFI selection in reducing feed costs was proven without affecting ***,selection of animals with negative RFI is not done by selecting animals directly according to the size of the viscera,rather it is done indirectly,that is,when selecting the most efficient animals and normally these animals already have the smallest viscera *** RFI is a trait that presents genetic variability,selectable to improve and has moderate heritability,between 0.30 and *** RFI is important because it reduces the direct economic impacts of reduced feed intake,as well as the effects of environmental impact on reducing methane emissions from enteric fermentation of ruminants.

On the north coast of present-day Peru, between the Andes and the Pacific Ocean, prospered approximately between 1000 Bc and 1375 AD, several relevant cultures: chavín (1000-200 Bc), Vicús and Frías (200 Bc - 300 AD), Moche (400 Bc-700 AD), Sicán (700-1375 AD). These cultures are interconnected and characterized by a high metallurgical ability, demonstrated by the presence of beautiful artifacts on gold, silver and copper alloys. More than hundred metal artefacts from these cultures were analyzed with a portable equipment which uses the non-destructive and non-invasive technique of energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF). Following objects were analyzed: (1) gold, silver and copper objects from the chavín culture (Museo Municipal of Piura and and Museo Enrico Poli in lima); (2) gold and silver objects from the Vicús and Frías cultures (Museo Municipal of Piura); (3) gold, silver and copper objects from the Moche culture ("Museo Tumbas Reales de Sipán", "Museo de Sitio de Huaca Rajada" in Lambayeque and Museo Enrico Poli in lima); (4) gold, silver and copper objects from the Sicán culture (Museum of Sicán, Ferra?afe). Portable equipments were employed, mainly composed of a small size X-ray tube and a thermoelectrically cooled, small size, Si-PIN or Si-drift X-ray detectors. The main characteristics of the EDXRF-technique is of being non destructive and multi-elemental. Standard samples of gold and silver alloys were employed for calibration and quantitative analysis. The aims of this campaign of analysis were: (1) to analyze a large number of objects; (2) to differentiate gold, gilded copper and tumbaga (this last being a poor gold alloy enriched at the surface by depletion gilding); (3) to correlate, when possible, composition of analyzed alloys to the specific culture; (4) to determine a possible evolution of metallurgy; (5) to better determine characteristics and beginning time of tumbaga production.
