The CaO-P_(2)O_(5)-SiO_(2)-MgO system presents several compounds used as biomaterials such as hydroxyapatite(HA),tricalcium phosphate(TCP)and TCP with magnesium substituting partial calcium(TCMP).Theβ-TCMP phase with whitlockite structure has interesting biological features and mechanical properties,meeting the requirements of a bioactive material for bone *** this work,the production of Mg-doped TCP,β-TCMP,has been investigated by crystallization from a glass composed of 52.75 wt%3CaO·P_(2)O_(5),30 wt%SiO_(2)and 17.25 wt%MgO(i.e.,31.7 mol%CaO,10.6 mol%P_(2)O_(5),26.6 mol%MgO and 31.1 mol%SiO_(2))using heat treatments between 775℃and 1100℃for up to 8 *** devitrification process of the glass has been accompanied by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),high-resolution X-ray diffraction(HRXRD),relative density and bending strength *** characterization by HRXRD and DSC revealed the occurrence of whitlockite soon after the bulk glass preparation,a transient non-cataloged silicate between 800℃and 1100℃,and the formation of diopside in samples treated at 1100℃as crystalline *** overall crystalline fraction varied from 26%to 70%depending on the heat ***,contraction of the a-axis lattice parameter and expansion of the c-axis lattice parameter of the whitlockite structure have been observed during the heat treatments,which were attributed to theβ-TCMP formation with the partial substitution of Ca^(2+)by Mg^(2+).Relative densities near 99%and 97%for the glass and glass-ceramics respectively indicated a discrete reduction as a function of the devitrification *** strengths of 70 MPa and 120 MPa were determined for the glass and glass-ceramic material crystallized at 975℃for 4 h,respectively.

Background:Dengue fever(DF)outbreaks present regionally specific epidemiological and clinical *** certain medium-sized cities(100000–250000 inhabitants)of São paulo State,Brazil,and after reaching an incidence of 150 cases/100000 inhabitants(“epidemiological threshold”),clinical diagnosis indicated dengue virus(DENV)*** this period,other seasonally infectious diseases with symptoms and physical signs mimicking DF can simultaneously occur,with the consequential overcrowding of health care facilities as the principal *** of clinical diagnosis of DF with serological tests may help in avoiding faulty diagnosis in patients,who might later undergo dengue hemorrhagic fever(DHF)and the dengue-shock syndrome(DSS).Furthermore,demographic and hematological profiles of patients are useful in detecting specific early characteristics associated to DF,DHF and ***:From March to June,2007,456 patients from Marilia in northwest São paulo State who had only been diagnosed for DF by clinical criteria,underwent serologic testing for non-structural 1(NS1)DENV *** results were used in comparative analysis according to demographic(gender,age)and hematological(leukocyte and platelet counts,percentage of atypical lymphocytes)*** patterns were evaluated by subdividing data according to time of initial attendance,using recorded variables as predictors of DENV infection in logistic regression models and ROC ***:Serologic DENV detection was positive in 70.6%of the *** leukocyte and platelet counts were the most important factors in predicting DENV infection(respective medians DENV+=3715 cells/ml and DENV-=6760 cells/ml,and DENV+=134896 cells/ml and DENV-=223872 cells/ml).Furthermore,all demographic and hematological profiles presented a conservative temporal pattern throughout this long-lasting ***:As consistency throughout the epidemic facilitated defining the conservation

AIM: To investigate age, sex, histopathology and Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) status, as risk factors for gastroduodenal disease outcome in Brazilian dyspeptic *** submitted to upper gastroscopy at Hospital das Clinicas of Marilia, antral biopsy specimens were obtained and subjected to histopathology and H. pylori diagnosis. All patients presenting chronic gastritis (CG) and peptic ulcer (PU) disease localized in the stomach, gastric ulcer (GU) and/or duodenal ulcer (DU) were included in the study. Gastric biopsies (n = 668) positive for H. pylori by rapid urease test were investigated for vacuolating cytotoxin A (vacA ) medium (m) region mosaicism by polymerase chain reaction. Logistic regression analysis was performed to verify the association of age, sex, histopathologic alterations, H. pylori diagnosis and vacA m region mosaicism with the incidence of DU, GU and CG in patients. RESULTS: Of 1466 patients submitted to endoscopy, 1060 (72.3%) presented CG [male/female = 506/554; mean age (year) ± SD = 51.2 ± 17.81], 88 (6.0%) presented DU [male/female = 54/34; mean age (year) ± SD = 51.4 ± 17.14], and 75 (5.1%) presented GU [male/female = 54/21; mean age (year) ± SD = 51.3 ± 17.12] and were included in the comparative analysis. Sex and age showed no detectable effect on CG incidence (overall c 2 = 2.1, P = 0.3423). Sex [Odds ratios (OR) = 1.8631, P = 0.0058] but not age (OR = 0.9929, P = 0.2699) was associated with DU and both parameters had a highly significant effect on GU (overall c 2 = 30.5, P < 0.0001). The histopathological results showed a significant contribution of ageing for both atrophy (OR = 1.0297, P < 0.0001) and intestinal metaplasia (OR = 1.0520, P < 0.0001). Presence of H. pylori was significantly associated with decreasing age (OR = 0.9827, P < 0.0001) and with the incidence of DU (OR = 3.6077, P < 0.0001). BACKGROUND Neoadjuvant treatment has become a standard of care for borderline or locally advanced pancreatic cancer and is increasingly considered even for up-front resectable *** aim of this article is to present the case of a 62-year-old patient with locally advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma who was successfully treated with gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel after the failure of the first line *** SUMMARY Computerized tomography scan and magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a nodular lesion of ill-defined limits in the body of the pancreas,measuring approximately 4.2 cm×2.7 cm,with an infiltrative *** tumor had contact with the superior mesenteric vein,splenomesenteric junction and the proximal segment of the splenic artery,causing focal reduction of its *** to vascular involvement,neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatment with eight cycles of“folinic acid,5-fluorouracil,irinotecan and oxa-liplatine”(FOLFIRINOX)were *** the end of the cycles,surgery was performed,but the procedure was interrupted due to finding of lesions suspected of *** plus nab-paclitaxel was then successfully used for neoadjuvant treatment with subsequent R0 surgical *** Gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel may be effective as an alternative regimen when FOLFIRINOX fails as the first line of treatment,suggesting the need for further studies to identify which patients would benefit from each type of therapeutic approach.

Prevalence and Incidence of Hand Osteoarthritis and Upper Limb Complaints in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis. Correlations among Functionality, Grip Strength, Changes in Body Mass Index and Symptoms among Patients in an Educational Osteoarthritis Program

Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of hand osteoarthritis (hOA) in a population with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) at baseline and one year following the administration of a multi-professional OA educational program correlating symptoms and changes in BMI with function questionnaires of the upper limbs and direct grip strength measurements. Design: Epidemiological study of the prevalence of hand OA in patients with knee osteoarthritis. The Stanford Health Assessment Questionnaire instruments (HAQ);Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand* (DASH);grip strength;and finger pinch were utilized, and the upper limbs symptoms were verified at baseline and one year following the educational program. Results: The prevalence of hOA was 23.7% at baseline and 47.4% at one year (incidence of 31.8% per year). The HAQ indicated that patients who did not alter or increased their BMI experienced worsened global strength, whereas patients who reduced BMI improved global strength (p = 0.041). Patients with higher initial BMIs experienced less improvement in the HAQ (r = -0.148, p = 0.041). The DASH results improved, but the right and left tripod grip worsened in all patients, irrespective of BMI change (p < 0.05) or symptoms at baseline and reassessment (p < 0.05). Pinch strength (right and left tripod and left pulp-pulp) was higher in patients without symptoms at baseline (p = 0.048, p = 0.045 and 0.033, respectively). Conclusions: The prevalence of hand OA increased for patients with OA undergoing an educational program irrespective of improved upper function and regardless of BMI change. Patients who decreased their BMI improved their global strength.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of silver nitrate in the in vitro development and conservation of passion fruit plants. Experiments were carried out at the Laboratory of Culture and Tissues, in the National Cassava and Fruits Research Center (EMBRAPA), using microcuttings of Passiflora gibertii N. E. Br., previously cultivated in vitro. The microcuttings were placed in MS media supplemented with silver nitrate at concentrations of 0, 1, 2, 4 and 8 mg·L-1, and, during 30, 60 and 90 days, the following variables were identified: Shooting length (cm), number of roots, number and coloration of leaves. A completely randomized design with 30 replications in a split-plot scheme was employed. Polynomial regression equations were adjusted in analysis of variance to compare averages of treatments. The obtained results support the assumption of high sensitivity of passion fruit tissues to ethylene, which reflects in the lost of vigor and in the induction of culture senescence by its accumulation. Based on obtained results, and in order to mitigate this problem, it is possible to indicate an addition of 2 mg·L-1?of silver nitrate in culture media, for the micropropagation of passion fruit plant, allowing the controlling of the atmosphere inside the culture test tubes, during the establishment of explants and other steps of the process.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.
