Identifying factors affecting the survival of individuals is essential for understanding the evolution of life-history traits and population *** numerous studies on this subject in north-temperate environments,there is a lack of equivalent studies at similar latitudes in the ***,we used a 14-year dataset of capture,banding,and resighting to estimate the annual variation in the apparent adult survival probability of a south-temperate population of House Wrens(Troglodytes aedon bonariae).We evaluated temporal variation in sur-vival and the effect of environmental(climatic)and demographic variables(adult abundance,total number of fledglings produced during each breeding season)on survival *** found that the probability of adult survival decreased as the abundance of breeding adults *** density-dependent effect could be related to the resident lifestyle of southern House Wrens,which could determine an intense competition for territories and resources that ultimately would affect their survival.

Group decision models that contemplate the particularities of the decision-making process help organizations pursue their strategic *** the financial market,the primary interest of organizations consists in ensuring financial returns,which guarantee stability for the *** study identifies major problems in the current process of credit granting in the financial market and argues the need for automatizing the organizational decision process while respecting the autonomy of *** this end,this study proposes a group decision model based on the Strategic Choice Approach(SCA)for granting credit in a financial market *** results show that the adoption of the proposed model offers considerable gains in terms of organizational goals,transparency of the decision-making process,security for decision-makers,and reduction of organizational conflicts.

We report the application of a solid lanthanum-ceria-zinc catalyst in the catalytic regeneration of diesel particulate filters （DPF） in diesel engines. We synthesized a CeO2- ZnO-La2O3 （Ce-Zn-La） mixed oxide by a lactic acid-mediated sol-gel method, which efficiently coated cordierite substrates for soot capture and combustion. We studied the effects of La loading on the physicochemical and catalytic properties of Ce-Zn mixed oxide during lowtemperature soot combustion processes. We characterized the synthesized catalysts by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, n2 adsorption, Raman spectroscopy, oxygen storage capacity （OSG）, and scanning and transmission electron microscopy （SEM and TEM）. Thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis （TGA/DTA） confirmed that the catalysts effectively reduced the soot oxidation temperature. The ternary Ce-Zn-La mixed oxide catalyst with Ce/Zn/La atomic ratio of 2：1：0.5 had the highest catalytic activity and promoted soot oxidation at temperatures below 390℃. This indicated that the large number of oxygen vacancies in the catalyst structure generated oxygen species at low temperatures. Raman spectroscopy measurements revealed the presence of oxygen vacancies and lattice defects in Ce-Zn-La samples, which were key parameters concerning the stability and redox properties of the prepared catalysts.

During the rainy season in Brazil,landslides can have catastrophic consequences,including loss of life,damage to urban infrastructure and significant economic ***,more than eight million people in Brazil live in disaster-prone *** objective of this article is to present a chronological review of the principal policies and programmes at the national,state,and municipal levels,with an emphasis on their key actions aimed at mitigating the impact of disasters related to natural hazards,particularly *** analysis was based on official records of public policies from the national,state,and municipal *** results show that several initiatives were initially developed at the local and regional ***,it was not until the late 1980s that a comprehensive organisation of civil protection at the national level emerged as a response *** is possible to highlight three phases(understanding,coexistence,and prevention)of institutional action focused on risk management in the face of *** the growing knowledge of risk scenarios,disasters continue to occur in Brazil on an annual basis,revealing several obstacles to reducing their impact,particularly given the social and economic disparities between Brazilian regions and the applicability of public policies that must overcome the limitations of each municipality.

Background:Patterns of rarity can be explained by reproductive rates,levels of endemism,and habitat specificity,and knowledge on these parameters is important to understand the levels of vulnerability of each species and to formulate conservation ***,we studied nest-site selection and breeding biology of the Atlantic Royal Flycatcher(Onychorhynchus swainsoni),a poorly known vulnerable bird endemic to the Brazilian Atlantic ***:We addressed nest site selection in three different levels:first,we searched for nests near and far from water to investigate whether birds could select water proximities to construct nests;second,we examined if they could select certain streams in detriment of others,and we analyzed the characteristics of used and non-used streams,and third,in streams in which nests were found,we addressed nest site selectivity by comparing a number of parameters between nest sites and random ***,we provide information on breeding biology parameters related to annual ***:During five breeding seasons,we found 23 nests in a well-preserved forest *** of the nests were constructed above water,and they were found in streams that were about 4 m in width,instead of smaller streams with about 1.5 m in *** analyses revealed that within the used streams,nests were constructed in sites with lower vegetation density in relation to random points,while stream width,water speed,and canopy cover presented no significant *** Royal Flycatchers in our study had a 22-day incubation period and 24 to 27-day nestling *** nest survival was comparatively high(62%),but clutch size was small(n=2 eggs)and Along the nesting streams,we found an average of 1.62±0.07 breeding pairs/***:These data suggest that nesting habitat specificity and low annual fecundity are among the factors contributing to the rarity of the Atlantic Royal Flycatcher in large forest continuums and to its absenc

The northeast Brazil (nEB) is known for its temporal and spatial variability of precipitation. Several studies have investigated this variability in order to understand the damaging episodes such as droughts and floods. The phenomenon of drought in the nEB is a complex topic due to affecting?millions of people and being?the object of study in several fields of knowledge. One way to try to argue about this phenomenon is through the concept of vulnerability. The “operability” of this broad concept in natural disasters is a complex task. In order to measure an indicator of vulnerability it is necessary large amount of data from different areas of knowledge, among which?include: meteorology, socio-environmental, economic, public health, among other areas. The main objective of this study is to create an index of vulnerability to climate extremes (drought and flood) for the nEB and to compare this rate with those found in the scientific literature. The data that will be used in this study are from AnA (Agência nacional das águas), IBGE (Instituto Brasileiro de Georgrafia e Estatística), and Ministry of national integration.

Arroyo Verde epithermal deposit,in the north Patagonia region of Argentina,is located within the Lower Chon Aike volcanism and is developed between 192.6±2.5 Ma(mineralization host rock)and 189.5±2.6 Ma(overlying lava).Marifil volcanic complex is the host rock for these veins,veinlets and *** particular small deposit has developed low to intermediate sulphidation characteristics,with gangue mineral textures associated with several ore *** probe microanalysis determines electrum,silver minerals such as acanthite,and tetrahedrite,related Ag-Cu minerals like jalpaite,mckinstryite,stromeyerite,and base metals like chalcopyrite,sphalerite,galena and *** inclusions in quartz of two out of five events indicate that these Low Jurassic veins were formed due to subtle boiling and dilution mechanisms and by low-salinity(3.4 wt.%to 6.7 wt.%naCl Eq)magmatic-hydrothermal fluid at 225 to 310℃.The fluid inclusion measurements that indicate boiling(Event 3)were plotted,and based on this data,we interpret that the Arroyo Verde deposit has been eroded between 550 and 700 *** particular character has not been previously recorded for other sectors of the eastern north Patagonian region.

Phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry(CDOTDR)is a well-established technique that provides spatiotemporal measurements of an environmental variable in real *** unique capability is being leveraged in an everincreasing number of applications,from energy transportation or civil security to *** date,a wide number of different approaches have been implemented,providing a plethora of options in terms of performance(resolution,acquisition bandwidth,sensitivity or range).However,to achieve high spatial resolutions,detection bandwidths in the GHz range are typically required,substantially increasing the system cost and ***,we present a novel OOTDR approach that allows a customized time expansion of the received optical ***,the presented technique reaches cm-scale spatial resolutions over t km while requiring a remarkably low detection bandwidth in the MHz *** approach relies on the use of dual-comb spectrometry to interrogate the fibre and sample the backscattered *** phase-spectral coding is applied to the employed combs to maximize the signal-to-noise ratio of the sensing scheme.A comparison of the proposed method with alternative approaches aimed at similar operation features is provided,along with a thorough analysis of the new *** results demonstrate a radically novel high-resolution OOTDR scheme,which could promote new applications in metrology,borehole monitoring or aerospace.

Background The savannah ecosystems of Sahel have experienced continuous and heavy grazing of livestock for centuries but still,their vegetation response to grazing pressure remains poorly *** this study,we analysed the herbaceous plant dynamics,measured by species diversity,composition,cover,and biomass in response to grazing pressure in the savannah ecosystems of *** Senegal,we selected four savannah sites represented with high,moderate,light and no grazing intensity *** survey methods were used for sampling the vegetation data within each of the *** richness and composition were analysed using species accumulation curve and multivariate ***,we used General Linear Models and a piecewise Structural Equation Model(pSEM)to examine the relationships between grazing intensity,vegetation cover,diversity and *** The herbaceous species diversity and composition varied significantly among the different grazing intensity levels(pnt species composition shifted from the dominance of grass cover to the dominance of forb cover with increasing grazing ***,the attributes of species diversity,herbaceous biomass,and ground cover were higher on sites with low grazing than sites with high and moderate grazing *** all sites,species diversity was positively related to total *** pSEM explained 37%of the variance in total biomass and revealed that grazing intensity negatively influenced total biomass both directly and indirectly through its negative influence on species *** Managing grazing intensity may lead to higher plant production and higher mixed forage establishment in the dryland savannah *** information can be used to support land management strategies and promote sustainable grazing practices that balance the needs of livestock with the conservation of ecosystem health and biodiversity.
