Environmental changes affect picoplanktonic composition in Antarctic Peninsula ponds

Antarctic Peninsula is experiencing one of the largest global warming events *** water bodies generated by the melting of snow in summer are numerous,and they might act as sentinels of climate change due to their rapid response and ability to integrate catchment *** in climate can influence the structure of microbial communities which dominate these freshwaters ***,we characterize three ponds at Cierva Point(Antarctic Peninsula)by examining their physico-chemical and morphological characteristics and we explored how different factors modify the structure of the microbial *** studied the abundance and biomass of heterotrophic bacteria,picocyanobacteria and picoeukaryote algae during January and February of two consecutive summers(2017 and 2018).We found that ponds had different limnological characteristics,due to their location,geomorphological features and presence of the surrounding flora and ***-chemical parameters as well as microbial community differed between ponds,months and *** 2017,most ponds were oligo to mesotrophic *** larger accumulated rainfall(as a result of environmental changes on the Antarctic Peninsula)during 2018,particularly in February,causes nutrient runoff into water *** affects those ponds with the highest seabird circulation,such as gentoo penguin,increasing *** a result,picoplanktonic abundances were higher,and the community structure shifts to a largely heterotrophic bacteria dominated *** results suggest that these communities could act as sentinels to environmental changes,anticipating a future with mostly hypertrophic ponds.

Achromatic patches are a common element of plumage patterns in many bird species and there is growing body of evidence that in many avian taxa they can play a signaling role in mate *** the blue tit Cyanistes caeruleus is a well-established model species in the studies on coloration,its white wing patch has never been examined in the context of sex-specific trait *** this exploratory study,we examined sexual size dimorphism and dichromatism of greater covert’s dots creating white wing patch and analyzed its correlations with current body condition and crown coloration—a trait with established role in sexual ***,we qualitatively analyzed microstructural barb morphology underlying covert’s *** found significant sexual dimorphism in the dot size independent of covert size and sexual dichromatism in both white dot and blue outer covert’s vane spectral *** structure of covert barbs within the white dot was similar to the one found in barbs from the blue part that is,with a medullary area consisting of dead keratinocytes containing channel-typeß-keratin spongy nanostructure and centrally located air ***,it lacked melanosomes which was the main observed ***,UV chroma of covert’s blue vane was positively correlated with crown UV chroma and current condition(the latter only in males),which should be a premise for further research on the signal function of the wing stripe.

The Municipality of Puebla is today＇s capital of the fourth most important city of Mexico. During 2009, its city hall ranked infirst place in category of metropolitan city as information and communication technologies to reach part of ＂Digital City Award＂. From the strategy to use governmental efficiency, as well as interact with the population and socioeconomic development of the zone, free wireless internet was implemented in 39 areas to facilitate the access to training of citizenship by using this new form of media. The municipality has a population with great economic disparity, which is translated in strong social exclusion, located mainly in housing units and popular colonies with people in situation of hereditary poverty. Because of that, the need of knowing the profile and the consumer habits of mass media communication emerges. The research evaluates identification of actual and potential users of the web2.0, so it can be possible to recognize the chances of intervention in this segment and increase its participation on public character programs and promoting equality of opportunities and the possibility being a participative citizenship that contributes to the local human development.

H2O2诱导ARPE-19细胞损伤模型的建立及蓝莓花青素的保护作用

目的建立H_2O_2诱导视网膜色素上皮细胞ARPE^(-1)9(acute retinal pigment epithelial^(-1)9)细胞损伤模型,研究蓝莓花青素对细胞的保护作用。方法采用MTT法测定细胞存活率,免疫荧光法测定细胞活性氧(reactive oxygen species,ROS)水平。以浓度0~3 200μmol·L^(-1)的H_2O_2为诱导剂,刺激细胞2、6、24 h,用1、5、10 mg·L^(-1)花青素提取物(blueberry anthocyanin extract,BAE)预处理细胞6、24 h,比较对细胞的保护作用,确定H_2O_2的浓度及诱导时间。通过ARPE^(-1)9细胞损伤模型的建立,研究蓝莓花青素对细胞的保护作用。结果以800μmol·L^(-1)H_2O_2刺激2 h为条件,建立ARPE^(-1)9细胞损伤模型,细胞存活率为63.69%。5 mg·L^(-1)蓝莓花青素提取物、锦葵色素(malvidin,Mv)及其葡萄糖苷(malvidin-3-glucoside,Mv-3-glc)和半乳糖苷(malvidin-3-galactoside,Mv-3-gal)预处理6 h后,细胞存活率明显提高(P<0.01),分别达到86.57%、115.72%、98.15%、127.97%;细胞中ROS水平明显下降(P<0.05),依次减少52.38%、95.38%、77.55%、116.09%。结论蓝莓花青素可以有效抑制H_2O_2诱导产生的视网膜细胞氧化损伤,其中主成分锦葵色素及其糖苷发挥重要作用。

The optical theorem,which is a consequence of the energy conservation in scattering processes,directly relates the forward scattering amplitude to the extinction cross-section of the *** derived for planar scalar waves,it neglects the complex structure of the focused beams and the vectorial nature of the electromagnetic *** the other hand,radially or azimuthally polarized fields and various vortex beams,essential in modern photonic technologies,possess a prominent vectorial field ***,we experimentally demonstrate a complete violation of the commonly used form of the optical theorem for radially polarized beams at both visible and microwave *** show that a plasmonic particle illuminated by such a beam exhibits strong extinction,while the scattering in the forward direction is *** generalized formulation of the optical theorem provides agreement with the observed *** reported effect is vital for the understanding and design of the interaction of complex vector beams carrying longitudinal field components with subwavelength objects important in imaging,communications,nanoparticle manipulation,and detection,as well as metrology.

Background Sphingosine-1-phosphate lyase insufficiency syndrome(SPLIS)or nephrotic syndrome type-14 is caused by biallelic mutations in ***,we conducted a systematic review to delineate the characteristics of SPLIS *** A literature search was performed in PubMed,Web of Science,and Scopus databases,and eligible studies were *** all patients,demographic,clinical,laboratory,and molecular data were collected and *** Fifty-five SPLIS patients(54.9%male,45.1%female)were identified in 19 *** consanguinity and positive family history were reported in 70.9%and 52.7%of patients,*** patients(54.9%)primarily manifested within the first year of life,nearly half of whom survived,while all patients with a prenatal diagnosis of SPLIS(27.5%)died at a median[interquartile(IQR)]age of 2(1.4–5.3)months(P=0.003).The most prevalent clinical feature was endocrinopathies,including primary adrenal insufficiency(PAI)(71.2%)and hypothyroidism(32.7%).Kidney disorders(42,80.8%)were mainly in the form of steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome(SRNS)and progressed to end-stage kidney disease(ESKD)in 19(36.5%)patients at a median(IQR)age of 6(1.4–42.6)*** 30 different mutations in SGPL1,the most common was c.665G>A(***222Gln)in 11(20%)***-six(49.1%)patients with available outcome were deceased at a median(IQR)age of 5(1.5–30.5)months,mostly following ESKD(23%)or sepsis/septic shock(23%).Conclusion In patients with PAI and/or SRNS,SGPL1 should be added to diagnostic genetic panels,which can provide an earlier diagnosis of SPLIS and prevention of ESKD and other life-threatening complications.

Most of the studies regarding the formation and stability of emulsions focus on the conditioning and management of crude oil on surface *** a great deal of the crude oil produced is in the form of stable emulsions,it is often claimed that these emulsions are formed through chokes and other flow constrictions in oil field ***,emulsions are produced in wells,which not only lack these constrictions but also are produced at low flow rates,demonstrating the fact that emulsions can be formed within the well *** present work reviews the literature regarding the formation and properties of heavy and extra-heavy oil emulsions in naturally fractured porous media due to the current relevance that these types of crude oil exploitation take,satisfying the hydrocarbon energy ***,emulsions have received more attention recently since they can be formed in-situ and improve oil *** understand the flow mechanics of emulsions in porous media,different models to describe their transportation are ***,the formation of emulsions in the reservoir for enhanced oil recovery purposes,including the use of nanoparticlestabilized emulsions is discussed.

CSI Method of Assessing Patient Satisfaction in Selected Maternity Wards

Health care is an area in which all who are involved should try to ensure that the quality of the provision is at a high level, especially in maternity wards. The quality of these services is not only the competence of the medical staff, but the whole set of factors prevailing in the ward and in the hospital, from cleanliness of the delivery room to the staff courtesy of the institution. The article presents the results of research on clients＇ satisfaction with the quality of the services offered by the selected maternity ward in Provincial Hospital in Bielsko-Biala. Customer Satisfaction Index （CSI） method was used for analysis.

Determining the spatial distribution of environmental and socio-economic suitability for human leptospirosis in the face of limited epidemiological data

Health and widowhood: Meanings and experience of elderly women in Chile

Aging and widowhood signal a real and symbolic landmark of change toward new vital experiences of elderly people. In the aging experience of women, there are three social age markers that participate directly in the construction of their identity as women during old age: menopause, work and widowhood. The present paper reports the results of a research on widowhood in old age and the experience of aging in elderly women in Chile. Through a qualitative methodological strategy, in depth biographic interviews were held with elderly people who were widowed after reaching 60 years of age, centering the analysis on its meanings on the body, health and death in old age, highlighting sociocultural aspects of the aging and widowing processes. Approaching widowhood in old age shows us not only a person who has lost a husband, but also what it means to be an elderly woman in a life experience continuum that also brings about key changes to understand the aging process of people, because marital relations can get to be determining factors for the construction of the identity of women and their experience of the aging process.
