Degraded water quality from nutrient pollution,physical,biological,and other chemical factors contributes to the development and persistence of many harmful algal blooms(HAB s).The complex dynamics of the HAB s is a challenge to marine ecosystems for the toxic effects *** consequences include fish,bird,and mammal mortality,respiratory or digestive tract problems,memory loss,seizures,lesions and skin irritation in many *** review is intended to briefly summarize the recent reported information on harmful marine toxin deleterious effects over the primary organisms of the food web,namely algae,zooplankton and *** focus is made on oxidative stress status of cells and *** though in situ field research is less controlled than laboratory studies,in which the organisms are directly exposed to the toxins under consideration,both types of approaches are required to fully understand such a complex *** top of that,the contribution of the increasing water temperatures in the sea,as a consequence of the global climate change,will be addressed as a topic for further studies,to evaluate the effect on regulating algal growth,species composition,trophic structure,metabolic stress and function of aquatic ecosystems.

Helicoverpa zea(Boddie)is a destructive agricultural pest species that is targeted by both Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt)maize and cotton in the United ***1A.105 and Cry2Ab2 are two Bt proteins expressed in a widely planted maize event MON *** this study,two tests(Test-Ⅰ and Test-Ⅱ)were conducted to evaluate the relative fitness of Bt-susceptible and-resistant *** on non-Bt diet(Test-Ⅰ and Test-Ⅱ)and a diet containing a mix of Cry1A.105 and Cry2Ab2 at a low concentration(Test-Ⅱ only).Insect populations evaluated in Test-Ⅰ were two Bt-susceptible strains and three Bt-resistant strains(a single-protein Cry1A.105-,a single-protein Cry2Ab2-,and a dual-protein Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2-resistant strains).Test-Ⅱ analyzed the same two susceptible strains,three backcrossed-and-reselected Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2-single-/dual-protein-resistant strains,and three F1 heterozygous *** of life table parameters showed that neither the single-nor dual-protein Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2 resistance in *** was associated with fitness costs under the test *** single Cry protein resistances at a concentration of a mix of Cry1A.105 and Cry2Ab2 that resulted in a zero net reproductive rate for the two susceptible strains were functionally incomplete recessive or codominant,and the dual-protein resistance was completely *** lack of fitness costs could be a factor contributing to the rapid revolution of resistance to the Cry proteins in this *** generated from this study should aid our understanding of Cry protein resistance evolution and help in refining IRM programs for ***.

Pancreatic cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer related death worldwide with an overall five-year survival of less than 5%. Potentially curative surgery, which alone can improve 5-year survival to 10%, is an option for only 10%-20% of patients at presentation owing to local invasion of the tumour or metastatic disease. Adjuvant chemotherapy has been shown to improve 5-year survival to 20%-25% but conflicting evidence remains with regards to chemoradiation. In this article we review the current evidence available from published randomised trials and discuss ongoing phase III trials in relation to adjuvant therapy in pancreatic cancer.

Isolation of high quality DNA from multiple samples can be both time-consuming and expensive. We have developed a combined protocol to reduce the time component of the hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide （CTAB） extraction method and reduced costs by regenerating the silica columns used to purify genomic DNA. We present data that shows, by in- creasing the temperature used during the CTAB method, the time required to extract crude genomic DNA can be reduced. We show that silica columns can be regenerated using HCI and still maintain their DNA-binding capacity. Furthermore, we show both spectrophotometrically, and by restriction enzyme cutting, that the quality of the eluted DNA is high. Critically, using both genomic DNA from pea and perennial ryegrass we demonstrate, using species-specific PCR primers, that there is no carry-over of DNA from repeated use of a single column. The main advantages of the method are high yield, high quality, cost effectiveness and time-saving. This method could satisfy demand when large numbers of plant genomic DNA samples are required, for example from targeting induced local lesions in genomes （TILLING） populations.

This paper presents numerical predictions of ship manoeuvring motions with the help of computational fluid dynamics （CFD） techniques. A program applying the modular concept proposed by the Japanese ship manoeuvring mathematical modelling group （MMG） to simulate the standard manoeuvring motions of ships has been initially developed for 3 degrees of freedom manoeu- vring motions in deep water with regression formulae to derive the hydrodynamic derivatives of the vessels. For higher accuracy, several CFD generated derivatives had been substituted to replace the empirical ones. This allows for the prediction of the maneuve- rability of a vessel in a variety of scenarios such as shallow water with expected good results in practice, which may be significantly more time-consuming if performed using a fully CFD approach. The MOERI KVLCC2 tanker vessel was selected as the sample ship for prediction. Model scale aligned and oblique resistance and Planar Motion Mechanism （PMM） simulations were carried out using the commercial CFD software StarCCM＋. The PMM simulations included pure sway and pure yaw to obtain the linear manoeuvring derivatives required by the computational model of the program. Simulations of the standard free running manoeuvers were carried out on the vessel in deep water and compared with published results available for validation. Finally, simulations in shallow water were also presented based on the CFD results from existing publications and compared with model test results. The challenges of using a coupled CFD approach in this manner are outlined and discussed.
