Perovskite type lanthanum manganite：Morpho-structural analysis and electrical investigations

Perovskite-type oxides of LaMnO3 were synthesized by means of the sol-gel method, in the presence of citric acid as gelling agent. The precursors used were Mn（NO3）2·H2O, La2O3, and NaOH,mixed in the stoichiometric ratio to obtain perovskite materials. The obtained gel was heat-treated at 400, 600 and 800 ℃ respectively, for 6 h. X-ray diffraction and FT-IR spectroscopy were used to analyze the phase transformation as a function of temperature, and the Rietveld refinement was used in order to characterize the materials obtained structurally. The average crystallite size of the products was calculated from XRD data and the average particle size was measured from the TEM micrographs. At 600 ℃, the synthesized compound is well-crystallized, showcases a perovskite structure（Pm-3m space group）, and exhibits uniform and homogeneous hexagonally-shaped particles, with sizes in the 20-50 nm *** impedance measurements in the 20-2 × 10^6 Hz frequency range were carried out at different temperatures（26-115 ℃）, and the electrical conduction mechanism is discussed.

Soil organic carbon storage in forest restoration models and environmental conditions

The scale of forest and landscape restoration is expected to increase during the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and its contribution to the provision of critical ecosystem services to *** models of forest restoration may improve ecosystem services,including soil organic carbon(SOC)storage.A review was carried out to access:(1)the variability of SOC storage between worldwide forest restoration models and,(2)the effects of climate,soil class,soil texture,and vegetation type on SOC *** reviewed 119 primary studies with information on SOC and soil texture for different forest restoration *** restoration models were grouped into four categories:natural regeneration,monocultures,agroforestry,and mixed *** data was extracted from these four restoration models,other land uses(cropland,bare land,grassland,and natural forest),climate regimes,and soil *** SOC storage in the forest restoration models and other land uses at a global scale ranged between 0.1 to 514 Mg ha^(-1).The overall mean value for SOC storage was higher for natural regeneration(112 Mg ha^(-1)),followed by agroforestry(74 Mg ha^(-1)),mixed forest(73 Mg ha^(-1)),and monocultures(68 Mg ha^(-1)).However,the average SOC storage was similar among the four restoration models in the moist warm climate *** SOC storage mean value in the moist cool zone was 23%higher than the dry cool zone(81 and 62 Mg ha^(-1),respectively),and 50%higher for the moist warm zone when compared to the dry warm climatic zone(74 and 38 Mg ha^(-1),respectively).The SOC storage of the restoration models was positively related to soil depth(0.59;p<0.01),clay content(0.29;p<0.01),and stand age(0.17;p<0.01).Globally,the mean values of SOC storage were 26,66,and 139 Mg ha^(-1) at zero-10,zero-30,and zero-100 cm depths,*** addition,sandy soils showed smaller mean values of SOC storage than medium to clay soils,especially in deeper soil ***,SOC storage was positively re

Native and exotic seed dispersal by the stone marten(Martes foina):implications for the regeneration of a relict climactic forest in central Portugal

The stone marten(Martes foina)is a carnivorous mammal that often consumes fleshy fruits,thus potentially promoting seed *** present study was developed in Bussaco National Forest,central Portugal,and aimed to assess the potential role of the stone marten in dispersing native and exotic plants in different forest landscape *** from stone marten scats and fleshy fruits were collected monthly and were thereafter identified and sowed in a nursery,following a randomized experimental *** emergence was monitored *** linear models were used to test for differences in time and success of emergence between seeds from scats and fruits of 3 native species(Rubus ulmifolius,Arbutus unedo and Celtis australis)and 1 exotic plant species with invasive behavior(Prunus laurocerasus).Fruit consumption by the stone martens significantly increased and accelerated the germination of the native *** but had no effect on the other 2 native species or on the invasive *** suggested that stone martens contribute to gene flow and forest regeneration by dispersing native plant ***,although the germination was not enhanced in the invasive species,the preference of stone martens for these fruits may potentially contribute to the proliferation of *** study represents a contribution to better understanding the fauna and flora interactions,enabling for a more conscious and effective decision-making in forest management.

Background:Given the limitations of current therapies for the reconstruction of bone defects,regenerative medicine has arisen as a new therapeutic strategy along with mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs),which,because of their osteogenic potential and immunomodulatory properties,have emerged as a promising alternative for the treatment of bone *** vivo studies have demonstrated that MSCs have a positive effect on regeneration due to their secretion of cytokines and growth factors that,when collected in conditioned medium(MSC-CM)and applied to an injured tissue,can modulate and promote the formation of new ***:To evaluate the effectiveness of application of conditioned medium derived from mesenchymal stem cells in bone regeneration in animal and human ***:We conducted a systematic review with a comprehensive search through February of 2018 using several electronic databases(MEDLINE,EMBASE,SCOPUS,CENTRAL(Ovid),and LILACS),and we also used the“snowballing technique”.Articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected through abstract review and subsequent assessment of the full *** assessed the risk of bias with the SYRCLE and Cochrane tools,and three metaanalyses were ***:We included 21 articles,19 of which used animal models and 2 of which used human *** animal models,the application of MSC-CM significantly increased the regeneration of bone defects in comparison with control *** studies reported early mineralization in regenerated bones,and no bone resorption,inflammation,nor local or systemic alterations were observed in any *** meta-analysis showed an overall favorable effect of the application of ***:The application of MSC-CM to bone defects has a positive and favorable effect on the repair and regeneration of bone tissue,particularly in animal *** is necessary to perform additional studies to support the application of MSC-CM in clinical practice.

Evaluation of Physicochemical,Microbiological and Sensory Stability of Frozen Stored Vacuum-Packed Lamb Meat

Nowadays, lamb meat represents only 7% of all meat produced in the world. In recent years the demand for standardized lamb meat cuts has been considered of great importance and the marketing occurs predominantly in the form of frozen cuts. Herewith, the main of this work was to evaluate the stability and safety of lamb meat during frozen storage. Meats were vacuum packed in high barrier multilayer plastic iflms and stored during 12 mon at （-18±1）℃. The meat stability was assessed by physical and chemical （lipid oxidation, objective color, pH value, cooking losses and instrumental texture）, microbiological （total count of psychrotrophic, coliform count at 45℃, coagulase-positive staphylococci and the presence of Salmonella） and sensory analysis （acceptance test and visual evaluation）. The vacuum packed lamb meat remained stable as to most physical and chemical indexes. Microbiological indexes showed good stability throughout the storage period according to Brazilian legislation standards to pathogenic microorganisms. Although a signiifcant reduction in tenderness （shear force increase from 3 to 8 kg）, it showed a good sensorial acceptance for all attributes tested, including texture, with scores of around 7 （like moderately） during the 12 mon of storage. Therefore, it can be concluded that, under the conditions applied in this study, lamb meat presents a shelf life of at least 12 mon when stored at-18℃.
