Two of the main challenges in optimal control are solving problems with state-dependent running costs and developing efficient numerical solvers that are computationally tractable in high *** this paper,we provide analytical solutions to certain optimal control problems whose running cost depends on the state variable and with constraints on the *** also provide Lax-Oleinik-type representation formulas for the corresponding Hamilton-Jacobi partial differential equations with state-dependent ***,we present an efficient,grid-free numerical solver based on our representation formulas,which is shown to scale linearly with the state dimension,and thus,to overcome the curse of *** existing optimization methods and the min-plus technique,we extend our numerical solvers to address more general classes of convex and nonconvex initial *** demonstrate the capabilities of our numerical solvers using implementations on a central processing unit(CPU)and a field-programmable gate array(FPGA).In several cases,our FPGA implementation obtains over a 10 times speedup compared to the CPU,which demonstrates the promising performance boosts FPGAs can *** numerical results show that our solvers have the potential to serve as a building block for solving broader classes of high-dimensional optimal control problems in real-time.

Doxycycline （DOX） exhibits anti-inflammatory and MMP inhibitory properties. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effects of DOX on alveolar bone repair. Controls （CTL） and DOX-treated （10 and 25 mg. kg- 1） molars were extracted, and rats were killed 7 or 14 days later. The maxillae were processed and subjected to histological and immunohistochemical assays. Hematoxylin-eosin staining （7th day） revealed inflammation in the CTL group that was partly reversed after DOX treatment. On the 14th day, the CTL group exhibited bone neoformation, conjunctive tissue, re-epithelization and the absence of inflammatory infiltrate. DOX-treated groups exhibited complete re-epithelization, tissue remodelling and almost no inflammation. Picrosirius red staining in the DOXlO group （7th and 14th days） revealed an increased percentage of type I and III collagen fibres compared with the CTL and DOX25 groups. The DOXlO and DOX25 groups exhibited increases in osteoblasts on the 7th and 14th days. However, there were fewer osteoclasts in the DOXlO and DOX25 groups on the 7th and 14th days. Wnt-lOb- immunopositive cells increased by 130% and 150% on the 7th and 14th days, respectively, in DOX-treated groups compared with the CTL group. On the 7th day, Dickkopf （Dkk）-I immunostaining was decreased by 63% and 46% in the DOXlO and DOX25 groups, respectively. On the 14th day, 69% and 42% decreases in immunopositive cells were observed in the DOXlO and DOX25 groups, respectively, compared with the CTL group. By increasing osteoblasts, decreasing osteoclasts, activating Wnt lOb and neutralising Dkk, DOX is a potential candidate for bone repair in periodontal diseases.

During the diversification of angiosperms, seeds have evolved structuralp chemical, molecular and physiolog- ically developing changes that specially affect the nucellus and endosperm. All through seed evolution, programmed celldeath （PCD） has played a fundamental role. However, examples of PCD during seed development are limited. The present review examines PCD in integuments, nucellus, suspensor and endosperm in those representative examples of seeds studied to date.

In this study a low molecular weight triblock copolymer derived fromε-caprolactone and tetrahydrofuran was used as a non-reactive compatibilizer of immiscible PLA/PCL *** blends with 0,1.5 wt%,3 wt%and 5 wt% copolymer and about 75 wt%PLA were prepared by single screw extrusion and characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA),tensile and Izod impact *** micrographs showed that the size of the dispersed PCL domains was practically constant regardless of copolymer *** result can be explained by the low shear rate employed during processing step and a decrease of PCL viscosity by presence of the triblock ***,when the copolymer concentration increased,strain at break of PLA/PCL blends also ***/PCL blend with 0 wt% copolymer presented 2%strain at break,whereas PLA/PCL blend with 5 wt%copolymer exhibited 90%.

Assisted Natural Remediation of a Trace Element-Contaminated Acid Soil:An Eight-Year Field Study

There are many remediation techniques for organic contaminated soils,but relatively few of them are applicable to trace elementcontaminated soils.A field experiment was carried out to investigate assisted natural remediation(ANR) of an acid soil contaminated by As,Cd,Cu,Zn and Pb using one inorganic amendment,sugar beet lime(SL),and two organic amendments,biosolid compost(BC)and leonardeite(LE).The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized block design with four treatments in three replicates:1) a non-amended control(NA);2) SL amended at 30 Mg ha^(-1) year^(-1);3) BC amended at 30 Mg ha^(-1) year^(-1) and 4) LE amended at 20 Mg ha^(-1) year^(-1) plus SL amended at 10 Mg ha^(-1) year^(-1)(LESL).The amended plots received two doses of each amendment(DO2):one in October 2002 and another in October *** plots were then divided in half into two subpolts and one subplot received another two doses of the same amendments(DO4) in October 2005 and October *** 2011,the pH values of the amended soils were greater than that of the NA soil,with the SL-amended soil showing the highest *** organic carbon(TOC) was also greater in the amended soil,and greater with DO4 than with *** reduced the concentrations of 0.01 mol L^(-1) CaCl_2-extractable Cd,Cu and Zn,especially in the SL-amended *** cover of colonizing vegetation was enhanced by amendments,but was independent of amendment *** in soil properties from 2003 to 2011 showed that the first amendment application of DO2 caused a high differentiation between all the amendment treatments and the NA *** the second application of DO2,soil pH and TOC continued increasing *** two applications of amendments(DO4) caused differences only in the organic *** cover increased over time in all the treatments including *** could be concluded that the slow and steady natural remediation of this soil could be enhanced by amendment application(ANR).

Cancer theranostics is a recent concept that aims to combine in the same device diagnostic and therapeutic features. Magnetic nanoparticles(m NPs) are commonly used as a critical part of these systems due to their ability to respond to an external magnetic field. Consequently, m NPs can generate heat when an alternating magnetic field is applied and enhance image contrast in magnetic resonance. However, direct administration of m NPs intravenously or directly in the tumor can lead to undesired side effects because of m NP elimination by macrophages or leakage to healthy tissues. Therefore, m NPs can be retained in a polymeric nanofibrous mesh, thus preventing misplacing or loss of m NPs. Furthermore, these magnetic nanofibers can be directly implanted in the tumor site, thus ensuring high m NPs loading and higher magnetic response. In addition, polymeric nanofibers produced by electrospinning are frequently used to maintain a sustained drug release in the tumor site. Therefore,a magnetic polymeric nanofiber produced by electrospinning is an ideal nanosystem for cancer theranostics application. This review summarizes the most recent developments of magnetic nanofibers produced by electrospinning for cancer theranostics applications.

Dear Editor, The maize Mutator （MuDRIMu） transposon family is the most active DNA transposon in plants （Lisch, 2002）. The Mu family contains diverse elements, all sharing similar -215-bp terminal inverted repeats （TIRs）. MuDR is the autonomous element, and a transcriptionally active MuDR is required for transposition of the non-autonomous Mu elements （Chomet et al., 1991）. MuDR contains two genes, mudrA and mudrB （Figure 1A）; mudrA encodes the MURA transposase, and mudrB encodes a protein with unknown function. To avoid the deleterious effects of transposons, plants have acquired mechanisms to epigenetically silence them. Silenced Mu ele- ments become heavily methylated, and their reactivation is very rare. To date, only UV-B radiation treatments have reac- tivated silenced Mu （Walbot, 1999）.

Currently,alcoholic cirrhosis is the second leading indication for liver transplantation in the United States and *** quality of life and survival after a liver transplantation(LT)in patients with alcoholic liver disease(ALD)are similar to those in patients with other cirrhosis *** alcoholic relapse rate after a LT varies from 10%-50%,and these relapse patients are the ones who present a reduced long-term survival,mainly due to cardiovascular diseases and the onset of de novo neoplasms,including lung and upper aerodigestive *** 40%of ALD recipients resume smoking and resume it early ***,our pre-and post-LT follow-up efforts regarding ALD should be focused not only on alcoholic relapse but also on treating and avoiding other modifiable risk factors such as *** psychiatric and psychosocial pre-LT evaluation and the post-LT follow-up with physicians,psychiatrists and addiction specialists are important for reversing these problems because these professionals help to identify patients at risk for relapse as well as those patients who have relapsed,thus enabling responsive actions.
