Content-aware image resizing is a kind of new and effective approach for image resizing, which preserves image content well and does not cause obvious distortion when changing the aspect ratio of images. recently, a seam based approach for content-aware image resizing was proposed by Avidan and Shamir. Their results are impressive, but because the method uses dynamic programming many times, it is slow. In this paper, we present a more efficient algorithm for seam based content-aware iraage resizing, which searches seams through establishing the matching relation between adjacent rows or columns. We give a linear algorithm to find the optimal matches within a weighted bipartite graph composed of the pixels in adjacent rows or columns. Therefore, our method is fast （e.g. our method needs only about 100 ms to reduce a 768x1024 Image＇s width to 1/3 while Avidan and Shamir＇s method needs 12 s）. This supports immediate image resizing whereas Avidan and Shamir＇s method requires a more costly pre-processing step to enable subsequent real-time processing. A fast method such as the one proposed will be also needed for future real-time video resizing applications.

AIM: To determine if novel bile acid transporters may be expressed in human tissues. METHODS: SlC10A1 (NTCP) was used as a probe to search the NCBI database for homology to previously uncharacterized ESTs. The homology search identified an EST (termed SlC10A4) that shares sequence identity with SlC10A1 and SlC10A2 (ASBT). We performed Northern blot analysis and rT-PCr to determine the tissue distribution of SlC10A4. SlC10A4 was cloned in frame with an epitope tag and overexpressed in CHO cells to determine cellular localization and functional analysis of bile acid uptake. rESUlTS: Northern analysis revealed that SlC10A4 mrNA is ubiquitously expressed in human tissues with the highest levels of mrNA expression in brain, placenta, and liver. In SlC10A4-transfected CHO cells, immunoblotting analysis and immunofluorescence staining demonstrated a 49-kDa protein that is expressed at the plasma membrane and intracellular compartments. Functional analysis of SlC10A4 showed no significant taurocholate uptake in the presence of sodium when compared to untransfected CHO cells. CONClUSION: To date, we have shown that this protein has no capacity to transport taurocholate relative to SlC10A1; however, given its ubiquitous tissue distribution, it may play a more active role in transporting other endogenous organic anions.

The computer graphics and computer vision communities have been working closely together in recent years and a variety of algorithms and applications have been developed to analyze and manipulate the visual media around us. There are three major driving forces behind this phenomenon： 1） the availability of big data from the Internet has created a demand for dealing with the ever-increasing, vast amount of resources; 2） powerful processing tools, such as deep neural networks, provide effective ways for learning how to deal with heterogeneous visual data; 3） new data capture devices, such as the Kilxect, the bridge betweea algorithms for 2D image understanding and 3D model analysis. These driving forces have emerged only recently, and we believe that the computer graphics and computer vision communities are still in the beginning of their honeymoon phase. In this work we survey recent research on how computer vision techniques benefit computer graphics techniques and vice versa, and cover research on analysis, manipulation, synthesis, and interaction. We also discuss existing problems and suggest possible further research directions.

Association of Helicobacter pylori IgA antibodies with the risk of peptic ulcer disease and gastric cancer

AIM: To compare the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori (Hpylori) IgG and IgA antibodies between adult subjects,with defined gastric diseases, nondefined gastric disorders and those representing the ***: Data on H pylori IgG and IgA antibodies,determined by enzyme immunoassay, were analyzed in 3 252 subjects with DGD including 482 patients with gastric ulcer, 882 patients with duodenal ulcer, 1 525patients with chronic gastritis only and 363 subjects with subsequent gastric cancer, 19 145 patients with NoDg and4 854 POPUl subjects. The age-adjusted prevalences were calculated for 1- and 20-year age ***: The prevalences of IgG antibodies were equally high (89-96%) in all 20-year age cohorts of the DGD groups, whereas the prevalences of IgG antibodies were lower and increased by age in the POPUl and NoDg groups. The prevalences of IgA antibodies were also higher in the DGD groups; among them CA (84-89%) and GU groups (78-91%) showed significantly higher prevalences than DU (68-77%) and CG patients (59-74%) (Or 2.49, 95%CI 1.86-3.34 between the GU and DU groups). In the CA, GU, and DU groups, the IgA prevalences showed only minor variation according to age, while they increased by age in the CG, POPUl, and NoDg groups (P≤0.0001). The IgA response, but not the IgG response, was associated with an increased risk of CA (Or 2.41, 95%CI 1.79-3.53) and GU (Or 2.57,95%CI 1.95-3.39) in comparison with CG ***: An IgA antibody response during H pylori infection is significantly more common in CA and GU patients as compared with CG patients.

Drug therapy for heart failure in older patients —what do they want？

Chronic heart failure （CHF） is predominantly seen in older patients, and therefore real life medicine often requires the extrapolation of findings from trials conducted in much younger populations. Prescribing patterns and potential benefits in the elderly are heavily influenced by polypharmacy and co-morbid pathologies. Increasing longevity may become less relevant in the frail elderly, whereas improving quality of life （Qol） often becomes priority; the onus being on improving wellbeing, maintaining independence for longer, and delaying institution- alisation. Specific studies evaluating elderly patients with CHF are lacking and little is known regarding the tolerability and side-effect profile of evidence based drug therapies in this population. There has been recent interest on the impact of heart rate in patients with symptomatic CHF. Ivabradine, with selective heart rate lowering capabilities, is of benefit in patients with CHF and left ventricular systolic dysfunction in sinus rhythm, resulting in reduction of heart failure hospitalisation and cardiovascular death. This manuscript will focus on CHF and the older patient and will discuss the impact of heart rate, drug therapies and tolerability. It will also highlight the tmmet need for specific studies that focus on patient-centred study end points rather than mortality targets that characterise most therapeutic trials. An on-going study evalu- ating the impact of ivabradine on Qol that presents a unique opportunity to evaluate the tolerability and impact of an established therapy on a wide range of real life, older patients with CHF will be discussed.

Grasslands(natural,semi-natural and improved)occupy approximately one-third of the terrestrial biosphere and are key for global ecosystem service provision,storing up to 30%of soil organic carbon(SOC).To date,most research on soil carbon(C)sequestration has focused on croplands where the levels of native soil organic matter(SOM)are typically low and significant potential exists to replenish SOM ***,with the renewed push to achieve“net zero”C emissions by 2050,grasslands may offer an additional C store,utilising tools such as ***,we critically evaluate the potential for biochar as a technology for increasing grassland C stocks,identifying a number of practical,economic,social and legislative challenges that need to be addressed before the widescale adoption of biochar may be *** critically assess the current knowledge within the field of grassland biochar research in the context of ecosystem service provision and provide opinions on the applicability of biochar as an amendment to different types of grassland(improved,semi-improved and unimproved)and the potential effect on ecosystem provision using a range of application techniques in the topsoil and *** concluded that the key question remains,is it possible for managed grasslands to store more C,without causing a loss in additional ecosystem services?To address this question future research must take a more multidisciplinary and holistic approach when evaluating the potential role of biochar at sequestering C in grasslands to mitigate climate change.

Practical automatic background substitution for live video

In this paper we present a novel automatic background substitution approach for live video. The objective of background substitution is to extract the foreground from the input video and then combine it with a new background. In this paper, we use a color line model to improve the Gaussian mixture model in the background cut method to obtain a binary foreground segmentation result that is less sensitive to brightness differences. Based on the high quality binary segmentation results, we can automatically create a reliable trimap for alpha matting to refine the segmentation boundary. To make the composition result more realistic, an automatic foreground color adjustment step is added to make the foreground look consistent with the new background. Compared to previous approaches, our method can produce higher quality binary segmentation results, and to the best of our knowledge, this is the first time such an automatic and integrated background substitution system has been proposed which can run in real time, which makes it practical for everyday applications.

Objective: The use of animal models of aortic stenosis(AS) remains essential to further elucidate its pathophysiology and to evaluate new therapeutic strategies. The waved-2 mouse AS model has been proposed;data have indicated that while aortic regurgitation(Ar) is effectively induced, development of AS is *** aimed to evaluate the effect of high-fat diet(HFD) and vitamin D_3 supplementation in this ***: HFD and subcutaneous vitamin D_3 injections were initiated at the age of 6 weeks until the age of 6(n = 16, 6-month treatment group) and 9(n = 11, 9-month treatment group) months. Twelve waved-2 mice without supplementation were used as control. Echocardiography was performed at 3, 6 and 9 months. Blood serum analysis(calcium, 1,25(OH)_2D_3 and cholesterol), histology and immunohistochemistry(CD-31, CD-68 and osteopontin) were evaluated at the end of the experiment(6 or 9 months).results: Total cholesterol and 1,25(OH)_2D_3 were significantly increased relative to the control group. HFD and vitamin D_3 supplementation did result in improvements to the model, since AS was only detected in 6(15.3%) mice(2 in the 3 groups) and Ar was developed in the remaining animals. Echocardiographic parameters, fibrosis, thickness, inflammation and valvular calcification, were not significantly different between the 6-month treatment and control groups. Similar results were also observed in the 9-month treatment ***: These results suggest that HFD and vitamin D_3 supplementation have no effect in the waved-2 mouse model. This model essentially mimics Ar and rarely AS. Further studies are needed to find a reliable animal model of AS.
