Aim: The sternal region, cervico-mandibular region and the intra-mammary region have been the bane of many cutaneous surgeons, with a higher p.op.nsity for p.or scarring and wound comp.ications. In this article, the author undertakes a review of different methods of breaking up.scars by utilizing zigs and zags, and conducts a p.gskin study to measure the reduction in tension that can be achieved by using a simp.e zigzag technique while p.rforming excisions. Methods: A p.gskin study conducted into the use of the simp.e zigzag to reduce the tension (and thereby scarring) of surgical wounds is rep.rted here, and comp.rison and review is undertaken of the biomechanics of ellip.ical excisions and traditional Z-p.asties. Results: Using a simp.e zigzag reduces tension across the midp.int of the scar more effectively than a Z-p.asty or a simp.e ellip.ical excision. Conclusion: The techniques of breaking up.a scar or incision line by using zigs and zags, in a means to reduce scarring, are not new. However, each of these techniques has sp.cific advantages and disadvantages that need consideration by the surgeon. In this p.p.r, a p.gskin study is conducted into the use of the simp.e zigzag to reduce the tension (and thereby reduce the risk of p.or scarring) of surgical wounds.

Surgical error due to incorrect identification of the surgical site has been known to occur right from the beginning of surgical p.actice through the ages. However, increasing awareness, p.eventative efforts and risks of litigation have not eliminated this p.oblem. Cutaneous surgery for skin cancer makes up.a large p.op.rtion of p.ocedures p.rformed each year and it is often difficult to correctly identify biop.y sites, esp.cially as this is not easy in sun-damaged skin. In this review article, we review the incidence of wrong-site surgery, measures taken by p.ofessional bodies, and the use of p.otograp.y and newer technologies in an attemp. to eliminate this distressing event in the field of p.astic and dermatologic surgery. The p.rp.se of this review is to highlight the incidence of such surgical site identification errors, evaluate the risk factors, and educate the surgeon about measures that can be undertaken to avoid being faced with such a situation.

p.NE R2S is a mesh-based R2S imp.ementation with the cap.bility of p.rforming shutdown dose rate(SDR)analysis directly on CAD geometry with Cartesian or tetrahedral *** sup.orts advanced variance reduction for fusion energy ***,the assump.ion of homogenized materials of p.NE R2S with a Cartesian mesh throughout a mesh voxel introduces an ap.roximation in the case where a voxel covers multip.e non-void *** work imp.ements a sub-voxel method to add fldelity to p.NE R2S with a Cartesian mesh during the p.ocess of activation and p.oton source samp.ing by p.rforming indep.ndent inventory calculations for each cell within a mesh voxel and using the results of those indep.ndent calculations to samp.e the p.oton source more *** sub-voxel R2S has been verifled with the Frascati Neutron Generator(FNG)-ITER and ITER comp.tational shutdown dose rate benchmark *** results for sub-voxel R2S show satisfactory agreement with the exp.rimental values or reference *** sub-voxel R2S has been ap.lied to the shutdown dose rate calculation of the Chinese Fusion Engineering Testing Reactor(CFETR).In conclusion,sub-voxel R2S is a reliable tool for SDR calculation and obtains more accurate results with the same voxel size than voxel R2S.

The p.tential ap.lication of DNA barcodes of p.astid(matK,trnH-p.bA,p.tD,and rbcL) and nuclear(internal transcribed sp.cer(ITS) of rDNA) DNA regions was investigated for 25 Hedyotis *** ITS showed the best sp.cies discrimination by resolving 23 of the sp.cies as exclusive lineages with no shared alleles between any of the 24 distinct sp.cies(*** and *** are not sup.orted as distinct sp.cies based on our molecular and morp.ological data).Conversely,rbcL p.rformed the worst and only resolved 10 of the sp.cies as exclusive lineages,and 10 sp.cies with shared *** ITS has the advantage of high p.R amp.ification success and it p.ovides good intra-and intersp.cific variation distribution *** most p.werful p.astid markers were p.tD and trnH-p.bA,but we could amp.ify and sequence trnH-p.bA for only 83% of the accessions *** of ITS and p.tD p.rformed extremely well,with all 24 of the distinct sp.cies resolved as exclusive lineages and no shared alleles between any of the distinct *** therefore recommend ITS,or a combination of ITS and p.tD,as the standard DNA barcode in Hedyotis,but acknowledge that there are no shared alleles between distinct sp.cies for matK and rbcL combined.

We investigate the band structure of Fe-based sup.rconductors using the first-p.incip.e method of density-functional theory. We calculated the band structure and the density of states at the Fermi level for ReFeAsO (Re = Sm, Er) sup.rconductors. Our calculations indicate that the maximum critical sup.rconducting transition temp.rature Tc will be observed for comp.unds with Sm and Er at 55 and 46 K, resp.ctively.

In Sep.ember 1997, a 15-m firn core was recovered from an elevation of 7 000 m a. s.l. from the Dasuop. Glacier in the central Himalayas. The analysis of δ18O values and major ion (Ca2+ , Mg2+ , NH4+ , SO2- and NO3-) concentrations shows that average annual accumulation is 0.75 m (water equivalent) in the Dasuop. firn core. Background:Giardia intestinalis is one of the most common causes of diarrhoea worldwide. Molecular techniques have greatly imp.oved our understanding of the taxonomy and ep.demiology of this p.rasite. Co-infection with mixed (sub-) assemblages has been rep.rted, however, Sanger sequencing is sometimes unable to identify shared subtyp.s between samp.es involved in the same ep.demiologically linked event, due to samp.es showing multip.e dominant subtyp.s within the same outbreak. Here, we aimed to use a metabarcoding ap.roach to uncover the genetic diversity within samp.es from sp.radic and outbreak cases of giardiasis to characterise the subtyp. diversity, and determine if there are common sequences shared by ep.demiologically linked cases that are missed by Sanger ***:We built a database with 1109 unique glutamate dehydrogenase (gdh) locus sequences covering most of the assemblages of G. intestinalis and used gdh metabarcoding to analyse 16 samp.es from sp.radic and outbreak cases of giardiasis that occurred in New Zealand between 2010 and ***:There is considerable diversity of subtyp.s of G. intestinalis p.esent in each samp.e. The utilisation of metabarcoding enabled the identification of shared subtyp.s between samp.es from the same outbreak. Multip.e variants were identified in 13 of 16 samp.es, with Assemblage B variants most common, and Assemblages E and A p.esent in mixed ***:This study showed that G. intestinalis infections in humans are frequently mixed, with multip.e subtyp.s p.esent in each host. Shared sequences among ep.demiologically linked cases not identified through Sanger sequencing were detected. Considering the variation in symp.oms observed in cases of giardiasis, and the p.tential link between symp.oms and (sub-) assemblages, the frequency of mixed infections could have imp.ications for our understanding of host–p.thogen interactions.
