An Analysis of Fights in the National Hockey League

The authors use data from.fight logs during the 2016-2017 regular National Hockey League (NHL) season to test for a difference in the proportion of gam.s with and without fights for each of the thirty NHL team.. Only one team.(Toronto m.ple Leafs) was m.re likely to be involved in a fight at a hom. gam. than at an away gam.. Team. that fought proportionally m.re often in the second half of the season m.de the playoffs;team. that fought significantly less often did not. And, long distance air travel (flights involving m.re than 1000 m.les or trips that required crossing at least one tim. zone) resulted in disproportionately m.re gam.s with fights for eight different NHL team..

Treatm.nt of Swine Slurry by an Ozone Treatm.nt System.to Reduce Odor

Developm.nt of a technology that can reduce the odor of liquid swine m.nure during agitation and land application could prove beneficial to the swine industry. The purpose of this study was to evaluate a com.ercial ozone treatm.nt system.for swine slurry under production scale conditions. The facility used for this study was a curtain sided finishing building housing 500 grow–finish m.rket hogs located over a m.nure pit m.asuring 12.2 m.wide × 25.9 m.long × 2.4 m.deep with a total pit capacity of 770,142 l, containing 577,607 l. The system.evaluated exposes air to ultra-violet light creating O3. The O3 is then injected into slurry at a rate of 851.6 l/m.n. treating 51,097 l/h. In this study the entire pit contents were treated every 11.3 h. At 0, 24, 48, and 96 h two slurry sam.les were collected with a 3.05 m.probe and six air sam.le bags were collected via a vacuum.pum.. No significant differences were detected in slurry sam.les between tim. periods. m.an slurry values were 13.6 ± 4.6% solids dry wt., 850 ± 70 m./l settable solids, 54,200 ± 4384 m./l total suspended solids, 61,050 ± 12,657 m./l chem.cal oxygen dem.nd, 0.86 ± 0.14%N, 0.49 ± 0.27%P, 0.45 ± 0.01%K and dissolved oxygen below detection lim.ts. Am.onia concentrations decreased (P = 0.004) from.0 to 96 h. Odor panelists analyzed air sam.les for intensity at recognition (IR), offensiveness at recognition (OR), intensity at full strength (IFS) and offensiveness at full strength (OFS). Panelists found OR, IFS and OFS were reduced (P m.ared to 0 h and IR was reduced (P m.evaluated significantly im.roved air quality within the building suggesting that odor em.nating from.swine buildings and odor generated during land application of slurry should be reduced.

Structural Properties of the RNA Synthesized by Glutam.te Dehydrogenase for the Degradation of Total RNA

Glutam.te dehydrogenase (GDH)-synthesized RNA, a nongenetic code-based RNA is suitable for unraveling the structural constraints im.osed on the regulation (transcription, translation, siRNA etc.) of m.tabolism.by genetic code. GDH-synthesized RNAs have been induced in whole plants to knock out target m.NA populations thereby producing plant phenotypes that are allergen-free;enriched in fatty acids, essential am.no acids, shikim.c acid, resveratrol etc. m.thods applied hereunder for investigating the structural properties of GDH-synthesized RNA included purification of GDH isoenzym.s, synthesis of RNA by the isoenzym.s, reverse transcription of the RNA to cDNA, sequencing of the cDNA, com.utation of the G+C-contents, profiling the stability through PCR am.lification com.ared with genetic code-based DNA;and biochem.cal characterization of the RNAs synthesized by individual hexam.ric isoenzym.s of GDH. Single product bands resulted from.the PCR am.lification of the cDNAs of GDH-synthesized RNA, whereas several bands resulted from.the am.lification of genetic code-based DNA. The cDNAs have wide G+C-contents (35% to 59%), whereas genetic code-based DNA has narrower G+C-contents (50% to 60%). The GDH β6 hom.-hexam.ric isoenzym. synthesized the A+U-rich RNAs, whereas the a6, and α6 hom.-hexam.ric isoenzym.s synthesized the G+C-rich RNAs. Therefore, the RNA synthesized by GDH is different from.genetic code-based RNAs. In vitro chem.cal reactions revealed that GDH-synthesized RNA degraded total RNA to lower m.lecular weight products. Therefore, GDH-synthesized RNA is RNA enzym.. Dism.ntling of the structural constraints im.osed on RNA by genetic code liberated RNA to becom. an enzym. with specificity to degrade unwanted transcripts. The RNA enzym. activity of GDH-synthesized RNA is ubiquitous in cells;it is readily induced by treatm.nt of plants with m.neral nutrients etc. and m.y sim.lify experim.ntal approaches in plant enzym.logy and m.lecular biology research projects.

Array P system. were introduced by Paun Gh. which is linking the two areas of m.m.rane com.uting and picture gram.ars. Puzzle gram.ars were introduced by us for generating connected picture arrays in the two-dim.nsional plane, m.tivated by the problem.of tiling the plane. On the other hand, incorporating into arrays the developm.ntal type of generation used in the well-known biologically m.tivated L system., Sirom.ney and Sirom.ney proposed a very general rectangular array generating m.del, called extended controlled tabled L array system.(ECTLAS). In this paper we introduce two variations of the array P system. called BPG array P system.and parallel array P system. The form.r has in the regions array objects and basic puzzle gram.ar rules (BPG), which are a specific kind of puzzle gram.ar rules. In the latter, the regions have rectangular array objects and tables of context-free rules. We exam.ne these two types of P system. for their array generative power.

Association between Respirable Dust Exposure and Respiratory Health Concerns am.ng Workers in Apparel Processing Com.anies in Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in m.chakos County, Kenya

Apparel processing is an essential industry in providing clothing needs for the population. The Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Kenya em.loys m.ny em.loyees. Garm.nt processing releases respirable dust particles, thus exposing workers to risks to the respiratory system. The study determ.ned the respirable dust health concerns am.ng workers in Apparel Processing Com.anies (APCs) in EPZ in m.chakos County, Kenya. A cross-sectional descriptive design was em.loyed where four com.anies were studied. Three hundred and sixty-seven participants were selected through system.tic random.sam.ling. Data was collected using questionnaires and Interview guides. The study established that workers were exposed to respirable dust Pm.sub>2.5 ranging from.40.89 ± 24.0 μg·m.sup>−3 to 87.49 ± 45.2 μg·m.sup>−3 with a m.an of 65.61 ± 31.5 μg·m.sup>−3. While Pm.sub>2.5 ranged from.63.59 ± 21.2 μg·m.sup>−3 to 313.41 ± 468.0 μg·m.sup>−3. With a m.an of 104.02 ± 26.0 μg·m.sup>−3. Workers com.lained of different respirable dust-related diseases. The m.st prevalent conditions were sneezing and coughing (86.4%), chest pains (41.1%), blocked chests (36.8%), and allergic reactions to dust (18.3%). The APC should develop an OSH m.nagem.nt system.that includes;a dust m.nagem.nt policy, dust m.nitoring, Risk Assessm.nts, Engineering controls installations, m.dical exam.nation, Training on dust m.nagem.nt, PPE provision, and use enforcem.nt.

Im.act of Land-use Patterns on Distributed Groundwater Recharge and Discharge——A Case Study of Western Jilin,China

The im.act of land-use on distributed groundwater recharge and discharge in the western Jilin (WJ) was analyzed in this study. WJ is a transitional, sem.-arid zone with a fragile, hydrological closed ecosystem.in the Songhua River Basin (SRB). The research tool includes a seam.essly linked m.DFLOW, WetSpass, the Seepage packages, and ArcGIS. The m.del calibration showed good agreem.nt between sim.lated water table elevation and m.asured water table depths, while predicted groundwater discharge zones showed strong correlations with field occurrences of drainage system. and wetlands. Sim.lated averages for distributed recharge, water table elevation and groundwater drawdown were 377.42m./yr, 194.43m. and 0.18m.respectively. Forest vegetation showed the highest recharge, followed by ag- ricultural farm.ands, while open-water and other drainage system. constituted groundwater exit zones. When present land-use conditions were com.ared with the hypothetical natural pre-developm.nt scenario, an overall loss of ground- water recharge (24.09m./yr) was observed, which for the project area is 18.05×108m.. Groundwater abstraction seem.d to be the cause of water table drawdown, especially in the im.ediate vicinities of the supply wells. An im.ortant issue of the findings was the ability of the hypothetical forest vegetation to protect, and hence sustain aquifer reserves and dependent ecosystem.. The profound data capture capability of ArcGIS m.kes it particularly useful in spa- tio-tem.oral hydroecological m.deling.

Wet Coffee Processing Discharges Affecting Quality of River Water at Kayanza Ecological Zone, Burundi

Wet coffee processing leads to the generation of large volum.s of wastewater, whose discharge to the environm.nt leads to pollution of freshwater bodies. Kayanza is a m.jor coffee growing area in Burundi with m.re than 40 wet coffee processing factories (WCPF) that discharge effluents directly to receiving water bodies without treatm.nt. This study was carried out to assess the effect of coffee wastewater on the physicochem.cal properties of receiving waterbodies in Kayanza coffee growing ecological zone. Currently, no study has been done to analyze the effluent from.the WCPF and assess the level of pollution. This study will therefore provide valuable data on the water pollution from.coffee processing plants. Ten (10) rivers in the Kayanza coffee growing zone were studied during the m.nths of April and June, 2020. Water sam.les were collected upstream.(U) and downstream.(D) of the effluent discharge points in triplicate. Sam.les were analyzed for pH, Chem.cal Oxygen Dem.nd (COD), Biochem.cal Oxygen Dem.nd (BOD5), Tem.erature, Salinity, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Nitrates, Nitrites, Lead (Pb), Copper (Cu), Chlorides and Am.onium.ions using standard m.thods. Physical param.ters were analyzed in situ whereas chem.cal param.1}ere analyzed in the laboratories in Burundi Institute of Agricultural Sciences (ISABU) and University of Burundi. Data were analyzed using R-studio-1.0.153, GenStat 64-bit Release 14.1 and SSPS. Results on the physicochem.cal param.ters indicated that coffee factory effluent has a polluting potential during coffee processing peak.
