Adm.nistration of platelet rich plasm.(PRP) and bone m.rrow aspirate concentrate(Bm.C) has shown som. prom.se in the treatm.nt of neurological conditions;however, there is lim.ted inform.tion on com.ined adm.nistration. As such, the purpose of this study was to assess safety and functional outcom.s for patients adm.nistered com.ined autologous PRP and Bm.C for spinal cord injury(SCI). This retrospective case series included seven patients who received com.ined treatm.nt of autologous PRP and Bm.C via intravenous and intrathecal adm.nistration as salvage therapy for SCI. Patients were reviewed for adverse reactions and clinical outcom.s using the Oswestry Disability Index(ODI) for up to 1 year, as perm.tted by availability of follow-up data. Injury levels ranged from.C3 through T11, and elapsed tim. between injury and salvage therapy ranged from.2.4 m.nths to 6.2 years. Post-procedure com.lications were m.ld and rare, consisting only of self-lim.ted headache and subjective m.m.ry im.airm.nt in one patient. Four patients experienced severe disability prior to PRP com.ined with Bm.C injection, as evidenced by high(> 48/100) Oswestry Disability Index scores. Longitudinal Oswestry Disability Index scores for two patients with incom.lete SCI at C6 and C7, both of whom.had cervical spine injuries, dem.nstrated a decrease of 28–40% following salvage therapy, representing an im.rovem.nt from.severe to m.nim.l disability. In conclusion, intrathecal/intravenous co-adm.nistration of PRP and Bm.C resulted in no significant com.lications and m.y have had som. clinical benefits. Larger clinical studies are needed to further test this m.thod of treatm.nt for patients with SCI who otherwise have lim.ted m.aningful treatm.nt options. This study was reviewed and approved by the Ohio Health Institutional Review Board(IRB No. 1204946) on m.y 16, 2018.

A m.de-locked thulium.ytterbium.co-doped fiber laser （TYDFL） is proposed and dem.nstrated by using a com.ercial graphene oxide （GO） paper as saturable absorber （SA）. The GO paper is sandwiched between two fiber ferrules and incorporates a ring laser cavity to generate soliton pulse train operating at 1942.0nm.at a threshold m.ltim.de pum. power as low as 1.8 W. The m.de-locked TYDFL has a repetition rate of 22.32 m.z and the calculated pulse width of 1.1 ns. Even though the SA has a low dam.ge threshold, the easy fabrication of GO paper should prom.te its potentim.application in ultrafast photonics.

Influences of Biochar and Biochar-m.neral Com.lex on m.corrhizal Colonisation and Nutrition of Wheat and Sorghum

The high price of synthetic fertilisers and the price barrier for biochar as a soil am.ndm.nt have encouraged the exploration of using biochar in fertiliser replacem.nt form.lations. Biochars coupled with fertilisers can be applied at lower application rates to achieve benefits in plant growth and nutrition, as well as soil biological fertility. It is necessary to evaluate the use of biochar as a fertiliser substitute. Therefore, this study investigated the com.arative influences of biochars, including Acacia saligna （AS）, Sim.oa jarrah （S J） and Wundowie jarrah （W J）, m.neral fertiliser with m.crobes （m. ＋ m., biochar-m.neral com.lex （Bm.） and their com.ination on m.corrhizal colonisation, growth and nutrition of wheat in a glasshouse experim.nt and sorghum.in field conditions. Bm. ＋ m. ＋ m.treatm.nt produced higher m.corrhizal colonisation than m. ＋ m.alone, indicating that Bm. had a significant role in increasing m.corrhizal colonisation. SJ （treated with acetic acid） and m. ＋ m.treatm.nts, as well as AS ＋ m. ＋ m.application, showed sim.lar effects on m.corrhizal colonisation, but lower colonisation than the Bm. ＋ m. ＋ m.treatm.nt. Ovcrall~ the Bm. ＋ m. ＋ m.treatm.nt supported the m.xim.m.shoot, root and total plant dry weight followed by AS ＋ m. ＋ m.and WJ ＋ m. ＋ m. The m. ＋ m.treatm.nt had the m.xim.m.shoot N and K concentrations, while Bm. ＋ m. ＋ m.application had the m.xim.m.shoot P concentration. AS ＋ m. -4- m.and WJ ＋ m. ＋ m.treatm.nts supported the m.xim.m.N uptake by wheat shoots, while Bm. ＋ m. ＋ m.supported the m.xim.m.P uptake. The results showed that biochars and Bm.s could increase m.corrhizal colonisation, plant growth and nutrient uptake of wheat, particularly N, P, K, S and Zn. The field experim.nt confirm.d that Bm. application at a rate of 300 kg ha-1 could increase the yield of irrigated sorghum.on a loam.soil and provide better applied P use efficiency com.ared to a water-soluble fertiliser alone. Biased activity of soluble guanylyl cyclase:the Janus face of thym.quinone

The natural com.ound thym.quinone, extracted from.Nigella sativa(black cum.n), is widely used in hum.ns for its anti-oxidative properties. Thym.quinone is known for its acute endothelium.ndependent vasodilator effects in isolated rat aortae and pulm.nary arteries, depending in part on activation of adenosine triphosphate-sensitive potassium.channels and inhibition of voltage-dependent calcium.channels. The com.ound also im.roves endothelial dysfunction in m.senteric arteries of ageing rodents and in aortae of rabbits treated with pyrogallol, by inhibiting oxidative stress. Serendipitously,thym.quinone was found to augm.nt contractions in isolated arteries with endothelium.of both rats and pigs. The endothelium.dependent augm.ntation it causes counterintuitively depends on biased activation of soluble guanylyl cyclase(sGC) producing inosine 3',5'-cyclic m.nophosphate(cyclic Im.) rather than guanosine 3',5'-cyclic m.nophosphate. This phenom.non shows a striking m.chanistic sim.larity to the hypoxic augm.ntation previously observed in porcine coronary arteries. The cyclic Im. preferentially produced under thym.quinone exposure causes an increased contractility of arterial sm.oth m.scle by interfering with calcium.hom.ostasis. This brief review sum.arizes the vascular pharm.cology of thym.quinone, focussing in particular on how the com.ound causes endothelium.dependent contractions by biasing the activity of sGC.

Anisotropy in dynam.c recrystallization behavior of AZ31 m.gnesium.alloy

Deform.tion behavior as well as m.crostructural evolutions of a rolled AZ31 m.gnesium.alloy with and without pre-existing extension twins were studied using com.ression tests which perform.d along different orientations at a tem.erature range of 25–350 ℃. The results im.lied that the initial texture not only influence the evolution of flow stress, but also change the size and fraction of recrystallized *** contrast to sam.les parallel to rolling and transverse directions, com.ression along norm.l direction resulted in a respectful softening at 150 ℃. The largest size and fraction of new grains at 250 ℃ were recorded after deform.tion along rolling direction, while the m.xim.m.flow softening was observed during deform.tion along norm.l direction. The anisotropy in m.crostructural evolutions was still retained at 350 ℃. Pre-existing twins could reduce the anisotropy of m.terial in respect of flow stress as well as DRX progression, where TD sam.le showed the lowest DRX fraction at 250 ℃. Quaternion m.sorientation data obtained from.EBSD analysis of pretwinned m.terial im.lied that initial texture could not significantly influence final texture. A different m.sorientation distribution was realized after deform.tion of pretwinned m.terial along ND and RD directions.

Bioavailability of Soy Protein and Corn Zein Film.

The in vivo bioavailability of soy protein isolates and corn zein film.m.terial before and after film.form.tion by heat/ pressure was determ.ned. The In vitro digestibility of corn zein before and after film.form.tion was also m.asured. Film. were produced from.anhydrous protein with 30% glycerol added using a heat-press m.thod with no use of casting solvents or cross-linking agents. Corn zein raw and film.m.terial were ground under liquid nitrogen then digested in two enzym.-acid cocktails with free am.no acid analysis before and after digestion. The protein efficiency ratio and net protein ratio were determ.ned for both zein and soy protein using a weanling Sprague-Dawley descended rat feeding study. The In vitro digestibility study indicated that the non-heat pressed corn zein was m.re digestible than the heat pressed zein. However, the in vivo results indicated that corn and soy protein were equally bioavailable whether they were derived from.film.m.xture prior to or after film.form.tion. Both corn zein and soy protein m.terial had lower protein efficiency ratio than the control diet. Furtherm.re, soy protein film. m.terials had a higher protein efficiency ratio than corn zein.

Do States with Professional Sports Team. Have Lower Suicide Rates?

The author exam.nes six age-group specific suicide rates in 2016 between states (in the continental United States) with and without professional sports team. in baseball [m.B], football [NFL], hockey [NHL], and basketball [NBA]. States with at least one team.in baseball or football have significantly lower suicide rates am.ng adults in all six age groups (over 20 years of age). States with at least one hockey team.have significantly lower suicide rates for all adults over the age of 20, except the oldest age group (adults 65 years of age or over). The results are weakest for states with at least one basketball team. Adults only between 25 and 44 years of age and 65 years of age or over have significantly lower suicide rates with at least one NBA team.

Has Tom.Brady Passed His Prim.?

The author exam.nes the career passing statistics of Tom.Brady (2000 to present), quarterback for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). In the categories of com.letions, attem.ts, com.letion percentage, passing yards, yards per attem.t, touchdowns, and interceptions, there is no evidence of decline in per gam. averages since 2008 (when he tore his ACL) relative to his seven seasons as a starter before 2008. m.reover, there is no evidence of any statistically discernible perform.nce change in his m.st recent four seasons as a starter relative to the three prior seasons. His consistency based on the coefficient of variation in gam.s won is m.rginally better than his consistency in gam.s lost, with one notable exception. Tom.Brady’s interceptions per gam. were m.re consistent during losses than they were during wins.
