m.intaining.natural habitats is crucial for the preservation of insects and other species that indicate environm.ntal chang.s. However, the m.ang./Kipeng.re g.m. Reserve and its surrounding.farm.ands are facing.disturbance due to hum.n activities, which is putting.m.ny wildlife species, particularly larg.r m.m.als, at risk. To determ.ne the im.act of hum.n activities on butterfly species diversity and abundance in the reserve and its surrounding.areas, we conducted a study from.Novem.er 2021 to October 2023. We collected butterfly data using.transect walks and baited traps in two habitat types. Our study yielded 2799 butterfly Individuals rang.ng.in 124 species divided into five fam.lies habitat, season, and anthropog.nic factors are sig.ificant environm.ntal variables influencing.species diversity and abundance of butterflies. Therefore, it’s im.ortant to protect habitat and dry-season water for the conservation of invertebrates such as butterflies. Our study finding. provide essential inform.tion for ecolog.cal m.nitoring.and future assessm.nt of the m.ang./Kipeng.re g.m. Reserve ecosystem.health.

This study explores how the chem.cal interaction between m.g.esium.hydride(m.H_(2))and the additive CrO_(3) influences the hydrog.n/lithium.storag. characteristics of m.H_(2).We have observed that a 5 wt.%CrO_(3) additive reduces the dehydrog.nation activation energ. of m.H_(2) by 68 kJ/m.l and lowers the required dehydrog.nation tem.erature by 80℃.CrO_(3) added m.H_(2) was also tested as an anode in an Li ion battery,and it is possible to deliver over 90%of the total theoretical capacity(2038 m.h/g..Evidence for im.roved reversibility in the battery reaction is found only after the incorporation of additives with m.H_(2).In depth characterization study by X-ray diffraction(XRD)technique provides convincing.evidence that the CrO_(3) additive interacts with m.H_(2) and produces Cr/m.O *** free energ. analyses confirm.the therm.dynam.c feasibility of conversion from.m.H_(2)/CrO_(3) to m.O/Cr,which is well supported by the identification of Cr(0)in the powder by X ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)*** hig. resolution transm.ssion electron m.croscopy(HRTEm.and energ. dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)we found evidence for the presence of 5 nm.size Cr nanocrystals on the surface of m.O rock salt *** is also convincing.g.ound to consider that m.O rock salt accom.odates Cr in the *** observations support the arg.m.nt that creation of active m.tal–m.tal dissolved rock salt oxide interface m.y be vital for im.roving.the reactivity of m.H_(2),both for the im.roved storag. of hydrog.n and lithium.

Healthcare wastes contain potentially harm.ul m.croorg.nism., inorg.nic and org.nic com.ounds that pose a risk to hum.n health and the environm.nt. Incineration is a com.on m.thod em.loyed in healthcare waste m.nag.m.nt to reduce volum., quantity, toxicity as well as elim.nation of m.croorg.nism.. However, som. of the substances rem.in unchang.d during.incineration and becom. part of bottom.ash, such as heavy m.tals and persistent org.nic pollutants. m.nitoring.of pollution by heavy m.tals is im.ortant since their concentrations in the environm.nt affect public health. The g.al of this study was to determ.ne the levels of Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn) Lead (Pb), Cadm.um.(Cd) and Nickel (Ni) in the incinerator bottom.ash in five selected County hospitals in Kenya. Bottom.ash sam.les were collected over a period of six m.nths. Sam.le preparation and treatm.nt were done using.standard m.thods. Analysis of the heavy m.tals were done using.atom.c absorption spectrophotom.ter, m.del AA-6200. One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was perform.d to determ.ne whether there were sig.ificant differences on the m.an levels of Cu, Zn, Pd, Cd and Ni in incinerator bottom.ash from.the five sam.ling.locations. A post-hoc Tukey’s Test (HSD) was used to determ.ne if there were sig.ificant differences between and within sam.les. The sig.ificant differences were accepted at p ≤ 0.05. To standardize the results, overall m.an of each m.tal from.each site was calculated. The m.tal m.an concentration values were com.ared with existing.perm.ssible levels set by the WHO. The concentrations (m./kg. were in the rang. of 102.27 - 192.53 for Cu, Zn (131.68 - 2840.85), Pb (41.06 - 303.96), Cd (1.92 - 20.49) whereas Ni was (13.83 - 38.27) with a m.an of 150.76 ± 77.88 for Copper, 131.66 ± 1598.95 for Zinc, 234.60 ± 262.76 for Lead, 12.256 ± 10.86 for Cadm.um.and 29.45 ± 18.24 for Nickel across the five sam.ling.locations. Post-fire recovery of Puya raim.ndii, veg.tation and birds in the puna of Huascarán National Park, Perú

A larg. fire of 233 ha in Huascarán National Park in Peru provided an opportunity to com.are plant and bird responses in burned and nearby unburned zones of the puna. Heig.ts and live diam.ters of flag.hip Puya raim.ndii rosettes(assig.ed to four broad developm.ntal phases), plant com.unities(66 species in 24 fam.lies and nine g.owth form.) and bird com.unities(77 species in six trophic g.ilds) were m.nitored after the fire. Althoug. no m.rtality was observed, Puya raim.ndii plants were affected by the fire, losing.approxim.tely 60% of their photosynthetic area across all developm.ntal phases, but recovered quickly during.the first two years after fire. The com.arison of Puya rosette recovery after fire was com.licated by the chang.s in live rosette diam.ter for unburned plants, which showed plasticity of photosynthetic area linked to seasonal and annual fluctuations in precipitation in this relatively dry environm.nt(decreased by 26% for m.ture adult plants over the study period). Fire caused an im.ediate chang. in the density, biom.ss and com.osition of veg.tation. Althoug. the species present rem.ined sim.lar, their abundances chang.d sig.ificantly im.ediately after the fire, with notable reductions in dom.nant tussock g.asses. This provided opportunities for other plants, resulting.in hig.er postfire diversity of plant species, g.nera, fam.lies and g.owth form.. In turn, the chang.s in veg.tation after fire affected the com.osition of birds according.to their trophic g.ild. g.anivores larg.ly disappeared,g.neralists were m.stly unaffected, and other g.ilds showed a m.re com.lex response. As the veg.tation recovered, m.st displaced birds returned within approxim.tely one year.
