m.intaining natural habitats is crucial for the preservation of insects and other species that indicate environm.ntal changes. However, the m.anga/Kipengere Gam. Reserve and its surrounding farm.ands are facing disturbance due to hum.n activities, which is putting m.ny wildlife species, particularly larger m.m.als, at risk. To determ.ne the im.act of hum.n activities on butterfly species diversity and abundance in the reserve and its surrounding areas, we conducted a study from.Novem.er 2021 to October 2023. We collected butterfly data using transect walks and baited traps in two habitat types. Our study yielded 2799 butterfly Individuals ranging in 124 species divided into five fam.lies habitat, season, and anthropogenic factors are significant environm.ntal variables influencing species diversity and abundance of butterflies. Therefore, it’s im.ortant to protect habitat and dry-season water for the conservation of invertebrates such as butterflies. Our study findings provide essential inform.tion for ecological m.nitoring and future assessm.nt of the m.anga/Kipengere Gam. Reserve ecosystem.health.

Healthcare wastes contain potentially harm.ul m.croorganism., inorganic and organic com.ounds that pose a risk to hum.n health and the environm.nt. Incineration is a com.on m.thod em.loyed in healthcare waste m.nagem.nt to reduce volum., quantity, toxicity as well as elim.nation of m.croorganism.. However, som. of the substances rem.in unchanged during incineration and becom. part of bottom.ash, such as heavy m.tals and persistent organic pollutants. m.nitoring of pollution by heavy m.tals is im.ortant since their concentrations in the environm.nt affect public health. The goal of this study was to determ.ne the levels of Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn) Lead (Pb), Cadm.um.(Cd) and Nickel (Ni) in the incinerator bottom.ash in five selected County hospitals in Kenya. Bottom.ash sam.les were collected over a period of six m.nths. Sam.le preparation and treatm.nt were done using standard m.thods. Analysis of the heavy m.tals were done using atom.c absorption spectrophotom.ter, m.del AA-6200. One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was perform.d to determ.ne whether there were significant differences on the m.an levels of Cu, Zn, Pd, Cd and Ni in incinerator bottom.ash from.the five sam.ling locations. A post-hoc Tukey’s Test (HSD) was used to determ.ne if there were significant differences between and within sam.les. The significant differences were accepted at p ≤ 0.05. To standardize the results, overall m.an of each m.tal from.each site was calculated. The m.tal m.an concentration values were com.ared with existing perm.ssible levels set by the WHO. The concentrations (m./kg) were in the range of 102.27 - 192.53 for Cu, Zn (131.68 - 2840.85), Pb (41.06 - 303.96), Cd (1.92 - 20.49) whereas Ni was (13.83 - 38.27) with a m.an of 150.76 ± 77.88 for Copper, 131.66 ± 1598.95 for Zinc, 234.60 ± 262.76 for Lead, 12.256 ± 10.86 for Cadm.um.and 29.45 ± 18.24 for Nickel across the five sam.ling locations. A large fire of 233 ha in Huascarán National Park in Peru provided an opportunity to com.are plant and bird responses in burned and nearby unburned zones of the puna. Heights and live diam.ters of flagship Puya raim.ndii rosettes(assigned to four broad developm.ntal phases), plant com.unities(66 species in 24 fam.lies and nine growth form.) and bird com.unities(77 species in six trophic guilds) were m.nitored after the fire. Although no m.rtality was observed, Puya raim.ndii plants were affected by the fire, losing approxim.tely 60% of their photosynthetic area across all developm.ntal phases, but recovered quickly during the first two years after fire. The com.arison of Puya rosette recovery after fire was com.licated by the changes in live rosette diam.ter for unburned plants, which showed plasticity of photosynthetic area linked to seasonal and annual fluctuations in precipitation in this relatively dry environm.nt(decreased by 26% for m.ture adult plants over the study period). Fire caused an im.ediate change in the density, biom.ss and com.osition of vegetation. Although the species present rem.ined sim.lar, their abundances changed significantly im.ediately after the fire, with notable reductions in dom.nant tussock grasses. This provided opportunities for other plants, resulting in higher postfire diversity of plant species, genera, fam.lies and growth form.. In turn, the changes in vegetation after fire affected the com.osition of birds according to their trophic guild. Granivores largely disappeared,generalists were m.stly unaffected, and other guilds showed a m.re com.lex response. As the vegetation recovered, m.st displaced birds returned within approxim.tely one year.

This study explores how the chem.cal interaction between m.gnesium.hydride(m.H_(2))and the additive CrO_(3) influences the hydrogen/lithium.storage characteristics of m.H_(2).We have observed that a 5 wt.%CrO_(3) additive reduces the dehydrogenation activation energy of m.H_(2) by 68 kJ/m.l and lowers the required dehydrogenation tem.erature by 80℃.CrO_(3) added m.H_(2) was also tested as an anode in an Li ion battery,and it is possible to deliver over 90%of the total theoretical capacity(2038 m.h/g).Evidence for im.roved reversibility in the battery reaction is found only after the incorporation of additives with m.H_(2).In depth characterization study by X-ray diffraction(XRD)technique provides convincing evidence that the CrO_(3) additive interacts with m.H_(2) and produces Cr/m.O *** free energy analyses confirm.the therm.dynam.c feasibility of conversion from.m.H_(2)/CrO_(3) to m.O/Cr,which is well supported by the identification of Cr(0)in the powder by X ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)*** high resolution transm.ssion electron m.croscopy(HRTEm.and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)we found evidence for the presence of 5 nm.size Cr nanocrystals on the surface of m.O rock salt *** is also convincing ground to consider that m.O rock salt accom.odates Cr in the *** observations support the argum.nt that creation of active m.tal–m.tal dissolved rock salt oxide interface m.y be vital for im.roving the reactivity of m.H_(2),both for the im.roved storage of hydrogen and lithium.
