Because of its importance as a food source, Nemipterus japonicus （Bloch, 1791）（Nemipteridae） or Japanese threadfin bream is the best studied of these taxa, and numerous investigations have examined its fisheries, its biology and biochemistry. de- spite such intensive work, the taxonomic status of N. japonicus has never been seriously questioned and it is regarded as a common species, widely distributed throughout the Indo-Westem Pacific Ocean. In fact, Bloch＇s description of the type specimen of ***- ponicus has ambiguous collection data and lacks a designation for the type locality, though it is probably Java. In this paper, dNA barcode results based on COl gene support the existence of two geographically separated lineages of the Japanese threadfin bream, both being an Indian Ocean and western Pacific lineage, with 2.7% sequence divergence, and the results indicate a possible existing of some cryptic species. The two lineages also possess a diagnostic difference in their belly color, with specimens in the South China Sea having a silver belly, while those from the Indian Ocean isolate specimen have a yellow coloration. Based upon new collections from the South China Sea, this species from the western Pacific is morphologically redescribed and its details of dNA barcode diver- sity are shown for the future investigations.

This experiment was designed to accommodate the diversified verbal,mathematical,and spatial skills of young adults,which have not yet to be collectively evaluated in research projects focused on acute exercise and creativity among college *** emerging research suggests that acute moderate-intensity exercise may influence human creativity,creativity during and after exercise has not been experimentally *** differences are plausible,as previous work demonstrates that memory can be differentially influenced based on whether the memory task occurs during or after ***,the purpose of this study was to examine the effects of acute moderate‐intensity treadmill walking,for 15 min,on verbal,mathematical,and spatial insight creativity performance while considering the timing of the exercise and creativity *** a sample of 20 undergraduate students,all completed three randomized laboratory visits in this within-subjects design:control condition,insight problem-solving following exercise,and insight problem-solving during *** also completed six insight creativity tasks(two verbal,two mathematical,and two spatial tasks)per visit,with the order of task-presentation randomized and counterbalanced across the three *** insight creativity scores were similar across the three exercise manipulations:That is,verbal insight[F(2,18)=0.689,P=0.51],mathematical insight[F(2,18)=0.033,P=0.97],and spatial insight[F(2,18)=1.0,P=0.38]performance were not statistically significant across the three ***,moderate-intensity acute exercise may not appreciably influence verbal,mathematical or spatial insight creativity.

This study investigated the effect of installing underwater light-emitting diode(LEd)lights in different locations(close and distant to the trap entrance)and orientations(normal and upside down direction)inside baited traps targeting snow crab(Chionoecetes opilio)off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador,*** experimental treatments were evaluated in comparison with traditional baited traps(control).Our results showed each of the experimental treatments produced significantly higher(39%–57%;48%on average)catch per unit effort(CPUE)compared to the control traps,with no significant differences for both legal and sublegal-sized crab among the different experimental *** soak times significantly increased the CPUE of the illuminated traps,but did not affect the catch rate of the control *** results also indicated crab size frequency distributions were independent of experiment *** results suggest that fishing enterprises could improve their catching performance by adding LEd lights to their traps,but the location and orientation of the lights appears unimportant.

This study was designed to identify and investigate bioactive natural product compounds that alter the cellular shape of the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe and induce a“rounded”or“small”cellular morphological *** using a range of antifungal agents against a multidrug-sensitive fission yeast strain,SAK950 showed that many induced a“rounded”*** then investigated whether 46 of the actinomycete strains identified in our previous study as inducing a similar phenotype produced antifungal agents of similar *** show that five of the strains produced streptothricin and that 26 strains produced polyenes,including fungichromin,filipin and candicidin,the last of which was produced by 24 strains.A taxonomic study of the strains indicated that the majority of the candicidin only producers were Streptomyces hydrogenans and *** whilst those that additionally produced streptothricin were related to ***.A follow-up study to investigate the natural products made by related strains indicated that they followed a similar *** identification of several compounds from the actinomycete strains similar to the antifungal agents initially tested confirm the validity of an approach using the *** morphological phenotype and actinomycete taxonomy as a predictive tool for natural product identification.

Plasma immersion ion implantation and deposition (PIII&d) has been shown to be an effective tech- nique to enhance the surface bioactivity of materials. In this paper, recent progress made in our laboratory on plasma surface modification single-crystal silicon and amorphous carbon is reviewed. Silicon is the most important material in the integrated circuit industry but its surface biocompatibility has not been investigated in details. We have re- cently performed hydrogen PIII into silicon and observed the biomimetic growth of apatite on its surface in simulated body fluid. diamond-like carbon (dLC) is widely used in the industry due to its excellent mechanical properties and chemical inertness. The use of this material in biomedical engineering has also attracted much attention. It has been observed in our laboratory that doping dLC with nitrogen by means of PIII can improve the surface blood compati- bility. The properties as well as in vitro biological test results will be discussed in this article.

Gaseous components of gas inclusions in deep carbonate rocks (>5700 m) from the Tacan 1 well were analyzed by online mass spectrometry by means of either the stepwise heat-ing technique or vacuum electromagnetism crushing. The carbon isotopic compositions of gases released by vacuum electromagnetism crushing were also measured. Although the molecular compositions of gas inclusions show differences between the two methods, the overall charac-teristics are that gas inclusions mainly contain CO2, whilst hydrocarbon gases, such as CH4, C2H6 and C3H8, are less abundant. The content of CO is higher in the stepwise heating experi-ment than that in the method of vacuum electromagnetism crushing, and there are only minor amounts of N2, H2 and O2 in gas inclusions. Methane d 13C values of gas inclusions in Lower Ordovician and Upper Cambrian rocks (from 5713.7 to 6422 m; -52—63) are similar to those of bacterial methane, but their chemical compositions do not exhibit the dry character in comparison with biogenic gases. These characteristics of deep gas inclusions may be related to the migration fractionation. Some deep natural gases with light carbon isotopic characteristics in the Tazhong Uplift may have a similar origin. The d 13C1 values of gas inclusions in Lower Cam-brian rocks (7117—7124 m) are heavier (-39), consistent with highly mature natural gases. Carbon isotopic compositions of CO2 in the gas inclusions of deep carbonate rocks are similar (from -4 to 13) to those of deep natural gases, indicating predominantly an inorganic origin.

Objective: Pharmacopoeias regulate the manufacture of potentised pharmaceutical preparations used in different branches of complementary and integrative medicine. The physicochemical properties and biological activity of these preparations are often investigated in preclinical research, yet no guidelines for experimental research currently exist in this area. The present PrePoP guidelines aim to provide recommendations to promote high-quality, statistically sound, and reproducible preclinical research on potentised ***: Input was gathered from researchers nominated by the relevant scientific societies using a simplified delphi consensus approach covering the most relevant aspects of basic research methodology in the field including appropriate controls, sample preparation and handling, and statistics. After three rounds of feedback, a consensus was finally reached on the most important aspects and considerations for conducting high-quality research on potentised ***: We present a series of recommendations on a range of topics including experimental controls,system stability, blinding and randomisation, environmental influences, and procedures for the preparation of potentised samples and controls, and we address some specific challenges of this research ***: This expert consensus process resulted in a robust set of methodological guidelines for research on potentised preparations and provides a valuable framework that will inform and improve the quality of subsequent research in this emerging field.
