Objective: To investigate the uptake rate of prostate specific antigen(PSA) testing among Hong Kong chinese males aged 50 or above, and identify factors associated with the likelihood of undergoing a PSA ***: A population-based telephone survey was conducted in Hong Kong in 2007. The survey covered demographic information, perceived health status, use of complementary therapy, cancer screening behavior, perceived susceptibility to cancer and family history of cancer. Descriptive statistics, percentages and logistic regression analysis were used for data ***: A total of 1,002 men aged 50 or above took part in the study(response rate =67%), and the uptake rate of PSA testing was found to be 10%. Employment status, use of complementary therapy, perceiving regular visits to a doctor as good for health and the recommendations of health professionals were significant factors associated with PSA ***: The uptake rate of PSA testing in the study population was very low. Among all the factors identified, recommendations from health professionals had the strongest association with the uptake of PSA testing, and they should therefore take an active role in educating this population about cancer prevention and detection.

Designed as a relational system capable of analyzing, comparing, and correlating data, the system can retrieve information in assimilated tabular formats. The database can provide information supports to researchers in the fields of medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, botany and other disciplines of natural products research.

Very long chain-saturated and-polyunsaturated fatty acids(VLc-SFA and VLc-PUFA, respectively) are a functionally important class of fatty acids containing 28 carbons or more in their acyl chain. They are synthesized by the elongation of very long fatty acids-4(ELOVL4) enzyme, expressed mainly in the brain, retina, skin, testes, and meibomian gland, where these fatty acids are found(Agbaga et al., 2008). Further, these organs exhibit tissuespecific VLc-PUFA and VLc-SFA biosynthesis and incorporation into complex lipids for specific functions. In the brain, skin, and Meibomian glands, the ELOVL4 mainly makes VLc-SFA, which are incorporated into complex sphingolipids. In the retina, the ELOVL4 makes VLc-PUFA that are incorporated into phosphatidylcholine, that are critical for visual function, while in testes and sperm, the VLc-PUFA are incorporated into sphingolipids that are critical for fertility(Yeboah et al., 2021).

Axonal regeneration following surgical nerve repair is slow and often incomplete,resulting in poor functional recovery which sometimes contributes to lifelong ***,there are no FDA-approved therapies available to promote nerve *** accelerates axonal regeneration,but systemic side effects presently outweigh its potential benefits for peripheral nerve *** authors describe herein a biodegradable polyurethane-based drug delivery system for the sustained local release of tacrolimus at the nerve repair site,with suitable properties for scalable production and clinical application,aiming to promote nerve regeneration and functional recovery with minimal systemic drug *** is encapsulated into co-axially electrospun polycarbonate-urethane nanofibers to generate an implantable nerve wrap that releases therapeutic doses of bioactive tacrolimus over 31 *** and drug loading are adjustable for applications in small and large caliber nerves,and the wrap degrades within 120 days into biocompatible *** released from the nerve wrap promotes axon elongation in vitro and accelerates nerve regeneration and functional recovery in preclinical nerve repair models while off-target systemic drug exposure is reduced by 80%compared with systemic *** its surgical suitability and preclinical efficacy and safety,this system may provide a readily translatable approach to support axonal regeneration and recovery in patients undergoing nerve surgery.

Simulation of industrial particle flows using DEM （Discrete Element Method） offers the opportunity for better understanding of the flow dynamics by the inclusion of particle scale physics that often determine the nature of these flows. Increased understanding from the models can lead to improvements in equip- ment design and operation, potentially leading to large increases in equipment and process efficiency, throughput and]or product quality. Industrial applications are typically large and involve complex par- ticulate behaviour in complex geometries. This paper explores the critical influence of particle shape on granular system behaviour and then discusses examples of DEM applied to several large industrial problems. 2009 chinese Society of Particuology and Institute of Process Engineering, chinese Academy of Sciences. AIM： To demonstrate the feasibility of using woodchuck samples on human microarrays, to provide insight into pathways involving positron emission tomography （PET） imaging tracers and to identify genes that could be potential molecular imaging targets for woodchuck hepatocellular carcinoma. METHODS： Labeled cRNA from woodchuck tissue samples were hybridized to Affymetrix U133 plus 2.0 Genechips. Ten genes were selected for validation using quantitative RT-PcR and literature review was made. RESULTS： Testis enhanced gene transcript （BAX Inhibitor 1）, alpha-fetoprotein, isocitrate dehydrogenase 3 （NAD＋） beta, acetyI-coA synthetase 2, carnitine palmitoyltransferase 2, and N-myc2 were up-regulated and spermidine/spermine N1-acetyltransferase was down-regulated in the woodchuck Hcc. we also found previously published results supporting 8 of the 10 most up-regulated genes and all 10 of the 10 most downregulated genes. cONcLUSION： Many of our microarray results were validated using RT-PcR or literature search. Hence, we believe that woodchuck Hcc and non-cancerous liver samples can be used on human microarrays to yield meaningful results.

The widespread use of opioids to treat chronic pain led to a nation-wide crisis in the United States. Tens of thousands of deaths annually occur mainly due to respiratory depression, the most dangerous side effect of opioids. Non-opioid drugs and non-pharmacological treatments without addictive potential are urgently required. Traditional chinese medicine(TcM) is based on a completely different medical theory than academic western medicine. The scientific basis of acupuncture and herbal treatments as main TcM practices has been considerably improved during the past two decades, and large metaanalyses with thousands of patients provide evidence for their efficacy. Furthermore, opinion leaders in the United States favor non-pharmacological techniques including TcM for pain management to fight the opioid crisis. we advocate TcM as therapeutic option without addictive potential and without lifethreatening side effects(e.g., respiratory depression) to treat chronic pain patients suffering from opioid misuse. The evidence suggests that:(1) opioid misuse cannot be satisfactorily managed with standard medication;(2) opinion leaders in the United States favor to consider non-opioid and nonpharmacological treatment strategies including those from TcM to treat acute and chronic pain conditions;(3) large meta-analyses provide scientific evidence for the clinical activity of acupuncture and herbal TcM remedies in the treatment of chronic pain. Future clinical trials should demonstrate the safety of TcM treatments if combined with western medical practices to exclude negative interactions between both modalities.

Somatic variants and how to find them:One major challenge in studying somatic mosaicism is the low abundance of potentially pathogenic somatic variant(s).Unlike inherited germline variants,which are essentially present in all cells,pathogenic somatic variants only exist in a subset of cells and may be present at very low (cy (VAF).Despite the low VAF,these somatic variants are disease-relevant and considered *** the context of focal brain malformations,which constitute a frequent cause of drug-resistant focal epilepsy,a pathogenic somatic mammalian ta rget of rapamycin (MTOR)variant with a VAF of 0.3%has been described(Baldassari et al.,2019).The identification of pathogenic somatic variants has importa nt implications both clinically and biologically.
