The crystallographic structure of CdSe nanoparticles attached to carbon nanotubes has been elucidated by means of high resolution transmission electron microscopy and high angle annular dark field scanning transmission electron microscopy *** rod-like nanoparticles,grown in solution together with carbon nanotubes,undergo a morphological transformation and become attached to the carbon *** tomography reveals that the nanoparticles are hexagonal-based with the(001)planes epitaxially matched to the outer graphene layer.

Even mildly hypothermic body or limb temperatures can retard healing processes in *** this,we observed that hibernating American black bears(Ursus americanus Pallas,1780)elicit profound abilities in mounting inflammatory responses to infection and/or foreign *** addition,they resolve injuries during hibernation while maintaining mildly hypothermic states(30–35°C)and without eating,drinking,urinating or *** describe experimental studies on free-ranging bears that document their abilities to completely resolve cutaneous cuts and punctures incurred during or prior to *** induced small,full-thickness cutaneous wounds(biopsies or incisions)during early denning,and re-biopsied sites 2–3 months later(near the end of denning).Routine histological methods were used to characterize these skin *** biopsied sites with respect to secondary intention(open circular biopsies)and primary intention(sutured sites)healed,with evidence of initial eschar(scab)formation,completeness of healed epidermis and dermal layers,dyskeratosis(inclusion cysts),and abilities to produce hair *** healing abilities of hibernating black bears are a clear survival advantage to animals injured before or during *** are known to have elevated levels of hibernation induction trigger(delta-opioid receptor agonist)and ursodeoxycholic acid(major bile acid within plasma,mostly conjugated with taurine)during hibernation,which may relate to these wound-healing *** research as to the underlying mechanisms of wound healing during hibernation could have applications in human *** approaches may be found to improve healing for malnourished,hypothermic,diabetic and elderly patients or to reduce scarring associated with burns and traumatic injuries.

Posterior instability of the shoulder is a rare condition and represents about 10% of shoulder instability. It has become more frequently recognized in the last year,even though it is more difficult to diagnose than anterior shoulder instability. As this form of shoulder pathology is somewhat rare,biomechanical knowledge is limited. The purpose of our study was to perform an extensive literature search,including PubMed and Medline,and to give an overview of the current knowledge on the biomechanics of posterior shoulder instability. The Pub Med/Medline databases were utilized,and all articles related to posterior shoulder instability and biomechanics were included to form a comprehensive compilation of current knowledge. A total of 93 articles were deemed relevant according to our inclusion and exclusion criteria. As expected with any newly acknowledged pathology,biomechanical studies on posterior shoulder instability remain limited in the literature. Current biomechanical models are performed in a static manner,which limits their translation for explaining a dynamic pathology. Newer models should incorporate dynamic stabiliza-tion of both the rotator cuff and scapulothoracic joint. There is a current lack of knowledge with regards to the pathomechanism of posterior shoulder instability,with no consensus on appropriate treatment regimens. Further investigation is therefore required at both basic science and clinical levels.

Transposable elements(TEs) are mobile genomic sequences of DNA capable of autonomous and nonautonomous duplication. TEs have been highly successful,and nearly half of the human genome now consists of various families of TEs. Originally thought to be non-functional,these elements have been co-opted by animal genomes to perform a variety of physiological functions ranging from TE-derived proteins acting directly in normal biological functions, to innovations in transcription factor logic and influence on epigenetic control of gene expression. During embryonic development, when the genome is epigenetically reprogrammed and DNA-demethylated, TEs are released from repression and show embryonic stage-specific expression, and in human and mouse embryos, intact TEderived endogenous viral particles can even be detected. Asimilar process occurs during the reprogramming of somatic cells to pluripotent cells: When the somatic DNA is demethylated, TEs are released from repression. In embryonic stem cells(ESCs), where DNA is hypomethylated, an elaborate system of epigenetic control is employed to suppress TEs, a system that often overlaps with normal epigenetic control of ESC gene expression. Finally, many long non-coding RNAs(lnc RNAs) involved in normal ESC function and those assisting or impairing reprogramming contain multiple TEs in their RNA. These TEs may act as regulatory units to recruit RNA-binding proteins and epigenetic modifiers. This review covers how TEs are interlinked with the epigenetic machinery and lnc RNAs, and how these links influence each other to modulate aspects of ESCs,embryogenesis, and somatic cell reprogramming.

Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias have made a considerable impact on society, and can take a significant toll on familial caregivers. Recent successful caregiving interventions suggest a promising future, though informed research design, a priori, is paramount in ensuring quality results that the Government and public may use to make informed policy and personal healthcare decisions. Research designs including basic science, randomized controlled trials (RCTs), qualitative, and quasi-experimental designs serve as the primary basis for discussion with literary examples and caveats.

Neutrophils are frontline cells of the innate immune *** effector leukocytes are equipped with intriguing antimicrobial machinery and consequently display high cytotoxic *** neutrophil recruitment is essential to combat microbes and to restore homeostasis,for inflammation modulation and resolution,wound healing and tissue *** fulfilling the appropriate effector functions,however,dampening neutrophil activation and infiltration is crucial to prevent damage to the *** humans,chemoattractant molecules can be categorized into four biochemical families,i.e.,chemotactic lipids,formyl peptides,complement anaphylatoxins and *** are critically involved in the tight regulation of neutrophil bone marrow storage and egress and in spatial and temporal neutrophil trafficking between *** function by activating dedicated heptahelical G protein-coupled receptors(GPCRs).In addition,emerging evidence suggests an important role for atypical chemoattractant receptors(ACKRs)that do not couple to G proteins in fine-tuning neutrophil migratory and functional *** expression levels of chemoattractant receptors are dependent on the level of neutrophil maturation and state of activation,with a pivotal modulatory role for the(inflammatory)***,we provide an overview of chemoattractant receptors expressed by neutrophils in health and *** on the(patho)physiological context,specific chemoattractant receptors may be up-or downregulated on distinct neutrophil subsets with beneficial or detrimental consequences,thus opening new windows for the identification of disease biomarkers and potential drug targets.
