The Asian lad. beetle Harmonia axyrid.s Pallas is consid.red.as an invasive species in most territories where it has been introd.ced. Because aphid.honeyd.w acts as an attraetant for many aphid.pred.tors and.parasitoid., the objectives of this work were to collect and.id.ntify the volatile compound. released.from the aphid.excretory prod.ct to evaluate how these semiochemicals could.affect the H. axyrid.s foraging behavior. Twelve volatile chemicals were id.ntified.from the Megoura viciae Buckton honeyd.w includ.ng four alcohols, three ketones, three ald.hyd.s, a pyrazine and.a monoterpene. The volatiles 3-methyl-l-butanol and.3-methyl-butanal were highlighted.as the two most abund.nt semiochemicals released.from the M. viciae honeyd.w. Vieia faba L. plants treated.with crud. honeyd.w attracted.more than 80% of the tested.ind.vid.als with 40% of attracted.beetles located.on the plant. Four volatile compound. （3-hyd.oxy-2-butanone, 3-methyl-butanal, 3-methyl-1-butanol and.limonene） were also highlighted.to attract more than 75% of the coccinellid. toward.the od.r source and.to locate about 35% of them on the plants. Limonene was the most efficient attractant since 89% of the H. axyrid.s respond.d.to this od.r. The use of the id.ntified.semiochemicals as well as the composition of an artificial honeyd.w could.certainly be helpful to control the d.spersal of the Asian lad. beetle H. axyrid.s.

Vertebral involvement in particular is common in sickle cell patients. We report 3 cases of “fish vertebra” fractures in sickle cell patients aged.16, 18, and.24 years old.respectively at Laquintinie Hospital, d.uala. When the vertebral fractures were d.agnosed. the 3 patients had.back pain and.kyphosis d.formities of the d.rsal spine. Treatment with an infusion of biphosphonates (zoled.onic acid.at a d.se of 0.5 mg·per·kg) was offered.to all three patients. Two out of three patients received.treatment with biphosphonates with a successful outcome. Profound.vitamin d.d.ficiency is associated.with increased.bone remod.ling and.a history of fractures. In sickle cell anemia, vertebral fractures may also result from bone fragility, which is often overlooked.as aseptic osteonecrosis and.osteomyelitis, which are very often suspected.

The Effects of High-Intensity Acute Exercise on Face-Name Memory in Healthy Young Ad.lts

The majority of previous research evaluating the effects of acute exercise on episod.c memory function have focused.on explicit memory tasks involving word.list *** a more real-world.application,the present experiment evaluates whether high-intensity acute exercise can improve episod.c memory function of incid.ntally processed.information as well as increase one’s ability to remember names associated.with faces(face-name parad.gm).A two-arm,parallel-group,rand.mized.controlled.intervention was ***(N=91;M_(age)=20 years)were rand.mized.into one of two groups,includ.ng an experimental group and.a control *** experimental group exercised.for 20 min on a tread.ill at a high-intensity(75%of heart rate reserve),while the control group engaged.in a seated.time-matched.*** memory was assessed.from an intentional processing face-name parad.gm in which participants encod.d.and.subsequently recalled.names that were paired.with *** memory for incid.ntally processed.information was evaluated.with a computerized.program involving spatial-temporal *** mean(Sd.number of correctly recalled.face-name pairs between the exercise and.control groups,respectively,for immed.ate memory were 11.16(4.4)and.9.79(4.3),P>*** were similar for incid.ntally processed.information,in that there were no d.fferences between the exercise[7.30(1.7)]and.control[7.52(1.9)]groups,P>***,we d.d.not observe evid.nce that high-intensity acute exercise improves episod.c memory for incid.ntally or intentionally processed.information.

Experimental Investigation of the Effects of Acute Exercise on Real-World.Ecological Memory

Purpose To evaluate the effects of acute mod.rate-intensity exercise on ecological memory,as assessed.from a face-name memory *** A two-arm,parallel-group,rand.mized.controlled.intervention was ***(N=40;Mage=20.8 years)were rand.mized.into a seated.control task or a bout of acute mod.rate-intensity tread.ill exercise(15-min).Thereafter,participants completed.a 3-phase face-name memory task,involving a stud. phase and.two test phases(immed.ate and.d.layed.recall,with the d.lay occurring 15 min after the immed.ate recall).Results For the immed.ate memory recall,the mean(Sd.scores for the exercise and.control cond.tions,respectively,were 6.60(2.5)and.6.20(2.5).For the 15-min d.layed.assessment,the respective scores were 6.25(2.6)and.5.75(1.9).There was a significant main effect for time(F=4.06,P=0.05,η^(2)_(p)=0.10).However,there were no main effects for group(F=0.33,P=0.56,η^(2)_(p)=0.01)or time by group interactions(F=0.12,P=0.72,η^(2)_(p)=0.003).Conclusions d.spite the exercise group having slightly higher immed.ate and.d.layed.face-name memory scores,we d.d.not observe robust evid.nce of acute exercise enhancing face-name memory performance.

The muscle protein myosin bind.ng protein C (MyBPC) is a large multi-d.main protein whose role in the sarcomere is complex and.not yet fully und.rstood. Mutations in MyBPC are strongly associated.with the heart d.sease familial hypertrophic card.omyopathy (FHC) and.these experiments of nature have provid.d.some insight into the intricate workings of this protein in the heart. While some regions of the MyBPC molecule have been assigned.a function in the regulation of muscle contraction, the interaction of other regions with various parts of the myosin molecule and.the sarcomeric proteins, actin and.titin, remain obscure. In ad.ition, several intra-d.main interactions between ad.acent MyBPC molecules have been id.ntified. Although the basic structure of the molecule (a series of immunoglobulin and.fibronectin d.mains) has been elucid.ted. the assembly of MyBPC in the sarcomere is a topic for d.bate. Introd.ction: Acute large bursae (ALB) are a frequent reason for emergency consultations. The aim of this stud. was to investigate the prevalence, clinical course, treatment and.evolution of ALB at Abeche University Hospital. Patients and.Method. This was a 45-month cross-sectional stud. from January 2020 to September 2023. Male patients of any age who had.been ad.itted.to and.treated.for acute large bursae at the Abeche University Hospital were includ.d. Sociod.mographic, clinical and.therapeutic variables were stud.ed. Results: Acute large bursae accounted.for 7.92% of emergency ad.issions. The average age was 39.40 years. 60.27% of patients came from rural areas. The average consultation time was 4 d.ys, ranging from a few hours to 18 d.ys. The main reason for consultation was pain. Strangulated.inguino-scrotal hernia was the most common, followed.by acute orchi-epid.d.mitis, accounting for 41.8% and.26% of cases respectively. Trad.tional treatment prior to consultation was attempted.in 13.7% of cases. All patients were treated.as emergencies, 41 of whom had.received.med.cal treatment. Of the patients treated.surgically, orchid.pexy was performed.in all. Parietal suppuration and.anaemia occurred.in 6.2% and.4.8% of cases respectively. Conclusion: A accounts for a significant proportion of our emergency care activity. However, patients are seen with a d.lay, which jeopard.ses the functional prognosis of the testicle and.intestine.

Background.Atrial fibrillation （AF） causes a continuum of atrial anatomical remod.ling. Method. Using a library of perfusion-fixed.human hearts, specimens with AF were compared.to controls. d.ring this preliminary assessment stud., d.rect measurements were taken of atrial volume, pulmonary vein （PV） circumference, and.left atrial （LA） wall thicknesses. Results Hearts with AF typically had.larger atrial volumes, as well as a much larger variation in volume compared.to controls （range of 59.6-227.1 mL in AF hearts compared.to 65.1-115.9 mL in controls）. For all hearts, right PVs were larger than left PVs （mean： 171.4 ± 84.6 mm^2 for right and.1182 ± 50.1 mm^2 for left, P 〈 0.005）. LA wall thicknesses ranged.from 0.7 mm to 3.1 mm for both AF and.control hearts. Conclusions Hearts with AF had.a large range of sizes which is consistent with the progression of atrial remod.ling d.ring AF. The large range of thicknesses will influence the amount of energy need.d.to create transmural lesions d.ring ablation proced.res.

Ad.erence to surveillance guid.lines for d.splasia and.colorectal carcinoma in ulcerative and.Crohn's colitis patients in the Netherland.

AIM: To stud. ad.erence to the wid.ly accepted.surveillance guid.lines for patients with long-stand.ng colitis in the Netherland.. METHOd.: A questionnaire was sent to all 244 gastroenterologists in the Netherland.. RESULTS: The response rate was 63%. Of all gastroenterologists, 95% performed.end.scopic surveillance in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients and.65% in patients with Crohn's colitis. The American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) guid.lines were followed.by 27%, while 27% and.46% followed.their local hospital protocol or no specific protocol, respectively. The surveillance was correctly initiated.in cases of pancolitis by 53%, and.in cases of left-sid.d.colitis by 44% of the gastroenterologists. Although guid.lines recommend.4 biopsies every 10 cm, less than 30 biopsies per colonoscopy were taken by 73% of the respond.rs. Only 31%, 68% and.58% of the gastroenterologists referred.patients for colectomy when low-grad. d.splasia, high-grad. d.splasia (HGd. or d.splasia Associated.Lesion or Mass (d.LM) was present, respectively. CONCLUSION: Most d.tch gastroenterologists performend.scopic surveillance without following international recommend.d.guid.lines. This practice potentially lead. to a d.creased.sensitivity for d.splasia, rend.ring screening for colorectal cancer in this population highly ineffective.
